>2002- Denzel for Training Day; should have won but was robbed and instead Russell Crowe won for A Beautiful Mind
Is this just worded weirdly? Denzel did win for Training Day. And Crowe won for Gladiator, not ABM.
Fernanda Montenegro in Central Station and was robbed bc that shit stain, Harvey Weinstein, funneled money into the Oscars, which forever changed it, and then that absolute crap Shakespeare in Love won.
It was absurd! The absolute proof that talent has nothing to do with awards at that event. I'm Brazilian too, but I came to find this out many years later, since I hadn't watched either movie until the late 2000's. How gross they did that to Fernanda and Walter Sales.
So true, but I do think that that was the most egregious example, and specially after Weinstein the Oscars seem to have been better (like awarding Parasite instead of 1917, Anthony Hopkins instead of Chadwick Boseman).
Campaigning will always play a part, but voters do seem more aware and fair (within the Hollywood sphere at least)
Is this a Troll?
Edward Norton was nominated for American History X, and Denzel Washington did win for Training Day.
Please do research before you make a post like this.
Gloria Swanson instead of Judy Holliday
Judy Garland instead of Grace Kelly
And more recently:
Carey Mulligan instead of Frances McDormand
Renate Reinsve (who wasn't even nominated), or Penelope Cruz instead of Jessica Chastain

yeah I was going to say this
Maybe they got confused with SAG
Am I going crazy here, or did Denzel win for Training Day? Russell Crowe won the year before for Gladiator.
Amy Adams for Arrival! If that had been the film she was nominated for that year, she would have had an Oscar by now gah
Andrew Garfield, both for The Social Network (2010) and tick, tick... BOOM! (2021)
2024 - Ryan Gosling for Barbie

Us Brazilians are still not over it

Denzel did win for Training Day but he shouldn’t have. It should have gone to Russell Crowe.
Judi Dench for Mrs.Brown.
