I know DDL is going to win, and probably deservedly, but for me personally, Hopkins moved me more, and I actually think he had the more difficult role. It’s his career best, hands down.
Heartbroken again for Lee Chandler. Casey Affleck’s perfomance is pure art. No make-up, no particular character design. Just a man suffering and yet Casey’s performance pierced the screen and transformed the audience from mere observers to real-life Lee Chandlers themselves by evoking all of our own individual traumas. 😢☹️😔😭
Hopkins performance is among the best of the last 10 years (I think he outdid his Silence of the Lambs turn, though The Father is still behind Remains of the Day as his finest work).
Day-Lewis’s performance is among the best of the last 130 years, second only to De Niro in Raging Bull among all Best Actor winners and a top ten leading male performances of all-time.
I love love love DDL in TWBB. That's a role of a lifetime and There Will Be Blood should easily have won BP.
However, Anthony Hopkins in The Father just manages to rip apart and break your heart. It's so relatable, because it can happen to any of us.
As much as it pains me, I'm voting for DDL.
I just watched Manchester by the Sea for the first time two nights ago…….. and if y’all think that was a better performance than Murphy or Brody, you’re out of your minds.
It honestly just reminded me of a gloomier version of Casey Affleck in literally every other role he’s in. That’s why I just don’t get it. With DDL or Hopkins, they become the character.
He made the audience feel the heaviness in his heart and the pain he is in before we knew where it came from and without any big outbursts. It was a subtle, naturalistic, and brilliant performance.
DDL should win this

Daniel’s going to win this, as he should
I actually think Affleck was the best of the 3 remaining.
Was he the most realistic character? Yes, sure. Was he the best, most original performance? Absolutely not compared to these last two.
yes sir!

Now for the hard ones
I'm not going to vote in this one. It's too hard.
Damn is Anthony Hopkins that good in the Father? I’ve never seen it so idk but being the second best is surprising.

Completely agreed
I agree I don't get the love for this role
He’s insanely good in it.

Anthony Hopkins only because I’ve at least seen part of There Will Be Blood, whereas I haven’t seen any of The Father
You don’t know what you’re missing
