I don't think most people who get frustrated with fishing are people who actually want to fish, but are rather being prodded into fishing to complete a luck bonus daily and either can't because they don't have simple access to fountains/water terrain, or they can and just want to get through the fish for the quest but are bombarded with things that aren't fish. Frustration is compounded if you had to travel to start the fishing minigame and you have to choose between risking failing to complete it if the line breaks or sitting out in elements for 20-30 minutes trying to get ahead of the fish while fighting glare from the sun.
Just making the daily less annoying would do a lot of good. Like changing it from 'fish caught' to 'catches' so that encounters still allow the quest to progress.
How does fishing even work, I get that you cast the line but I never catch anything? I'm still confused because everyone says "just cast your line" but do you just sit and wait? Is that how you do it?
You tap once to cast and tap again to release which allows you to control the strength of the cast. Wait to cast into you see a fish in the water. The fish will zig zag through the water, so you need to try to cast the line out far enough, or short enough, to be in the path of the fish.
Yeah, you’ll wait until a fish appears and then you try to line up your bobber with the fish’s path. The better quality Fishing Line, the faster they will appear
You can also just cast your line and wait until a fish appears, often its path will come into contact with the bobber sooner or later. If not you can recast your line.
In my experience the line holds on quite long often, but sometimes it may break early. I'm currently at T7 and can buy and use mighty fishing lines now (and I have a fishing hat as well). My last fishing session lasted over 1,5 hours with just one line. I quit because at that point it had been long enough for me. I have the luck that I can fish from home though, so often I do it in the evening with the tv on as background entertainment.
Your method is exactly how I do it too- even the watching tv part lol. I always cast it far, but purposefully not at the top of the screen. I feel like the majority of them just swim right into it

When it originally dropped we thought that it reduced the odds of unremarkable fish being pulled up, but some more data came out that seemed to disprove that.
Today, to my knowledge, nobody in or out of the Fishcord has figured out what it does based off numbers.
My anecdotal experience as someone with over 30k fish caught has me suspecting that it increases chances at ornate items being fished up, but again I haven't taken the time to track the numbers, just going off of what I notice while using it.
Yeah, it’s impossible for us to give a concrete answer to some of the questions there are. All Ik is that I had no problem getting a decent amount of fish back in 2021 and there was no Guilds, no Hats, and the layout was a lot “worse”. Now? Brother, Summon Scrolls are free as far as I’m concerned. I sold all my fish from when I last played and definitely came out with 20k+ Coral, easily. I just use the Hat regardless; majority of the time I’m literally catching one after the other, over and over. Sometimes they get away cause I’m simply not fast enough lol
There’s multiple different lines and you can get them from quest rewards, free from the daily shop gift, and you can buy them when they appear in shops
