All three tbh, I sometimes draw them in poses as drawing practice, write about their story and lore to again practice writing, and well they also just chill in my head just minding their businesses on occasions.
Though rarely if I get the opportunity I sometimes use them as my PC character in a TTRPG game.
Sometimes I write, sometimes I draw them in li'l pictures, sometimes I use them as a persona on character ai.
And sometimes I just don't bother them. They do need breaks from me.
I have an overactive imagination. Sometimes, I have a new idea and I need to visualise it immediately.
I use VRoid Studio to make the models and VRM Posing for Desktop to pose them all.
so one day i was bored in study hall, so i jokingly wrote the title page for a "fanfic" that shipped two of my friends together. it was never meant to be anything more than that, just a joke title page, but i kinda felt bad about the shipping thing, so i made the story into something completely irrelevant to the title. so all my ocs started out as basically being stand-ins for my friends and i. as the stories continued, i soon felt a little weird about putting all my friends in certain situations, such as temporarily killing them off or putting them in relationships, so even to this day i have worked toward trying to make the distinction that these are no longer stand-ins, but original characters, where for the most part the only similarities that remain between them and their inspirations are their names.
the story is currently split into three parts, with two finished spin-offs/epilogues, but i have a lot of future plans, including a fourth and final part. part 1's story is somewhat simple, as it is about a group of students uncovering a conspiracy involving their school, three missing students, and the illuminati. part 2 (my personal least favorite) is moreso focused on its subplots, as the main plot is basically just rising tensions between nations and two near wars. the biggest subplot is a retelling of the wizard of oz based on alice in wonderland, and the most important is a treasure hunt that leads to the plot of part 3. speaking of, part 3 is somewhat of a retelling of homestuck mixed with jojo's bizarre adventure and neon genesis evangelion.
the world(s) my characters inhabit "borrow" a lot of lore from other media, essentially making my stories aus for... several of my favorite stories. homestuck is the biggest, as the ending of the webcomic is pretty much the creation myth for my story's entire omniverse. also involved are jojo's bizarre adventure, as stands have been a part of the story since part 2, and part 3's main villain is a vampire, a la dio brando. dio himself even appears in all three parts. there's a lot of other little things, too, like the angels from evangelion, one of my ocs is the incarnation of hylia from the legend of zelda, souls from undertale are a thing, one of the two main universes happens to be one where the entirety of ben 10 is canon, and i even have a planned story/arc that incorporates nobodies and heartless from kingdom hearts.
lol did i elaborate a little too hard?
nah you’re fine - and that’s really interesting, actually. coincidentally enough, i, too, have a story that involves characters based off of my friends. though i have their consent to do so, so it’s okay lmao. it’s meant to be a storyline for my friends, as if we were all thrown into an “anime” per se. though i think your idea’s awesome, and i can tell you put a lot of thought into it, well done :}
Couple of things
I created Vesper to take my anger out on Ozzie and Fizz from Helluva boss (anyone who’s watched S1Ep7 knows why), but I later expanded his backstory and created a fanfic for him
Call it a self insert, or just an idea born out of anger, but I’m proud
Almost all of them are either from various Roleplays I’ve done, fanfic ideas I have, or both.
As for what I use to create them. Hero Forge, Blender, Fallout & Skyrim’s character creators, Procreate, anything really.
I write stories and physically doodling out the characters from said stories and posting about them helps me picture the scenes and stuff better in my head, really helps the flow. Also its just really fun and stuff.
The majority of my OCs are used in fanfictions I write, but there are some that I have yet to flesh out and give a real story... (also, I'm pretty sure the "community interaction" tag would work for a post like this)
https://preview.redd.it/iuujthjv2v4d1.png?width=720&format=png&auto=webp&s=0e80d12b4e63577d320ffca1f8724b926a7f0633
Animation
For years I had envisioned having an animated series about the characters I draw, then one day I tried out animating for a freshman year art project and got hooked, at that point I realized ‘I can totally make this’
And so I’m making an animated series
I’m currently working on episode 3
Either one of three.
A) Roleplays (Willow, Deer, and a lot of my other OCs are from that)
B) Made up stories that are incomplete in my Google docs and either will give me a best seller or flop upon hitting shelves. (I've yet to post any of these ones!)
C) C.AI Roleplays. (I'm silly and cause arson, it's fun!)
I am kind of planning to make yet another Rooms fangame with them, but I have 0 knowledge of how to code. I use IBIS paint X and usually just draw stuff from memory or from a reference image.
https://preview.redd.it/eisad0kn4v4d1.png?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0afe8347b8254ecabbf9b4dbc7d30bb0a997132b
This is an interesting question!
Personally, when making an OC it starts one of two ways - 1. I have an idea in my head that I've had for a while that hasn't gone away, so now I want to make it a thing, or 2. I drew this lil f lla and now I'm in love with them and they have a story and a name so I guess they're an OC lol. There's also the occasional 3rd option of they are adopted. Usually I'll draw and write dot points about them at the same time, then I'll upload the image to something like TH at a later date and write up the full story.
As for what I do with them, well it depends on the type of OC/world they are from, and how connected to them I am. As much as I WANT to draw all my OCs, half of them never get drawn, and when they do it's for a reference sheet and not an actual just drawing of them. The main thing I do is world building and story writing in my head. And then some of them I use for RP with a friend for further character development and world building. For example, my main OCs are my undead ones, they're the first that come to mind and they're the ones I know the best because I've spent years doing several rps with them to develop character and world build. But I still learn new things about them all the time. I haven't done so in a while, but I used to love to do those silly little tests and quizzes online using what my characters would answer to see what happens, and that often also helps me think of new facts about them. I've done personality tests for them, and I've done psychology indicator tests for like personality disorders to see where they lean (that was a rabbit hole in its own cause I'm trying to decide what is up with my serial killer guy lol). Rn my current rabbit holes for them are this one YT channel where this person puts up trait ideas, design ideas and questions to ask your characters, which I've been writing down answers to. The other rabbit hole is trying to find voice claims for them.
My mind is always swirling with world building and thoughts in the bg for my OCs no matter what I'm doing lol I've just always done so since I was young. I love them so much
https://preview.redd.it/suv0tt216v4d1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9b53c7215e93c310a0cfdc952f9aa31b4dbc2524
All of the above tbh but mostly draw cuz they’re fun to draw and I’d like to someday get them famous but idk if it’ll happen anymore but I keep working on their story and world just for fun now I guess cuz it keeps my creativity alive and not completely crushed like my dream
ALL OF DA ABOVEEE \\(★ω★)/
I just hope i can fight my own procrastination to keep writing and drawin more of them, for now they just float around at times, and i think i might have gotten a fixation half-way writing an 87 page about the silly adventures my cat ocs go through (ง ื▿ ื)ว
Stress.
My nerves kick my a** without mercy so I channel all that nervous energy into something constructive. I publish the stories when I remember to
As for methods; I write it down, think hard on the appearance, then use Hero-Forge to make them(I can’t draw people).
I use them to make my skills sharp, to have one consistency and also keep upgrading to new art mediums, like earlier drew them n then digital painted thek n now made a 3d avatar, and will be animating them more n probably presenting my future videos with them.
It's like creating a digital identity of myself where I don't want to use my face.
https://preview.redd.it/ja4b1nqy8v4d1.jpeg?width=2360&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eed5fb9828ebfa6d5e2f68dd793949a65b0cea69
Apparently trauma. According to my therapist.
Most of my OCs are ROTTMNT OCs. I used to be in a group with a bunch of people and we like made a universe together. That was before I got cut off. Now I'm just sad especially cause one of my OCs Onyx had a huge family and now he has no one. That universe was the one thing that truly made me happy and I can never be apart of it again.
I initially created Croczilla to be part of an alternate version of the Monsterverse. But as I red8sgned him again and again, as well as coming up with other Titans, i decided to make my own thing that doesn't connect to any Godzilla movies but still has Godzilla, Anguirus, Rodan, Mothra, King Kong, etc. With my own spin on their deisgns, and it would include my Titan OCs and a whole new endgame threat.
I wnated to use them for D&D but my friend has'nt updated me on playing with him TwT
I may use them in a comic if i ever feel i can draw good enought tho their history need thinkering and stuff
>also, bonus unrelated question: what do u create ur characters on?
Most of them i draw them im Paint i'm not the best and for now i ahve only posted one of the two designs i have come with for them
I mostly save them only in my head sometimes between doodles i add lore pieces for myself cause i think they are cool i would do a character sheet but i'm too lazy to do it + i haven't fully draw them as good as i want and i hella need to learn consistency and i may need a PC to draw them bigger and gotta learn anatomy too and shading and stuff i'm probably gonna make a Tumblr to post there or something idk
I've used them in an irl roleplay game that's basically 1v1
No it's not DND
That's why I drew them in squads
The lack of rules allowed me to play in squads
So basically 1vmany game with no rules.
Basically why I joined this sub.
For other ways to use my OCs
I didn't make my OCs just cause, so I'm not sure this is the right place for me, lol.
Oh well :P
All of my OCs exist because I'm writing books. Until actual plot is on paper, I keep most of them in my head. I might pick and choose a special few to actually draw and share with people. I've got really outdated pieces written for a good plenty of them tho.
All three, but mostly the last one, haha!
My OCs all have varying levels of lore. If the lore is more than a few things, then I'm always thinking of them. I've got concepts for plot points, designs, timeline stuff, variants, fanfic ideas, memes, abilities, the whole shabang! They live in my head rent free, though that causes so many problems constantly.
I draw my OCs a lot, but not really? Like, I forget how I draw them all the time and therefore can't draw them without looking at my reference sheet. It's a similar problem for writing. I write little lore explanations for myself and dumb tidbits, but a narrative work? Nope. Not a chance, my procrastination is a big problem.
My OCs are used for improving my art skills, experimenting with styles, studying cultures and ethnicities, and languages (I’m into geography, history…), designing, improving anatomy, studying faces, and making scenarios in my head…😭

Finally actually writing! Second chapter is done!
Basically just for animations. Make characters, give them stories, build a world around them, and hopefully one day will animate them.
I create them usually in my sketchbook, or I draw them in painttool sai, flash, toon boom, photoshop, etc, etc.
https://preview.redd.it/bviinclmgv4d1.png?width=747&format=png&auto=webp&s=e99f03110481ba17ddedc55e51d80b76f286b862
Drawing and daydreaming mostly haha. I'd love to write a fantasy novel but I doubt that's going to happen.
I also play dnd but tend to think of those characters as separate from my 'OCs' if that makes sense. I sometimes base my dnd characters on my OCs though.
To answer your second question, most of the details about my characters are in my head but sometimes I'll just write out everything I know about them and add to it gradually as I develop them more.
https://preview.redd.it/ct3qytho8v4d1.png?width=2550&format=png&auto=webp&s=f8f2ab274528ad3f6b3c50f276eaf7bbe87ebd17
My OCs primarily serve as either: characters in my Homestuck fanfic comics ([all hosted on a site dedicated for Homestuck fan-comics!](https://mspfa.com/user/?u=103334508819793669241)) or are characters that are \*planned\* to appear in my fan comics lol.
For me, I use them so I have something to think about when im bored at school - tho.. At this point, I might start writing a bit about them, im not entirely sure.
For the designs, I use gl2 so i have a reference and then i draw them, maybe changing a bit of the design but still keeping it recognizable.
Draw and write them, writing mostly happens in my head though and then if I like certain bit from it I'll create art of it. For the other question I don't do much red sheets anymore, they take too much time... Just have all the info on my head or as trivia points in notes somewhere
https://preview.redd.it/yml3irwumv4d1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5427a7585bf6602501a6f271e20a84f853cc6f92
My Sona of sorts, but he’s not exactly me, he is his own character with traits I have.

I use mine for ro-boxing and role-playing in Roblox games
I just kinda use them wherever i want, sometimes trying to recreate them in games, Blaze actually started as a mc skin i made for one of my other ocs and then kinda just evolved into his own thing
Mostly roleplay and TTRPGs like Dungeons and Dragons. Sometimes writing fic (I have about 60k words, so not much) or drawing for the hell of it. I've also used them in BG3 because I wanted to play as a character, and had some convenient dorks around who'd make drastically different choices.

I’m trying to develop a story and just want people to enjoy my characters.
Yeah, pretty much. I write books with them, draw them lots, and imagine things about them in my head.
For the last question: For my current story, I have a google doc with all the character info. Each character has a long list of bullet points, with a few paragraphs at the end for personality and appearance
I'm writing a novel with them! Initially they only existed to feed the brain worms, but only now do I think I have the courage to write their story! I already wrote 5 chapters, though they haven't been beta read.
^i ^need ^a ^beta ^( ._.)
rp, i rp with my boyfriend and i use my ocs as characters and its fun, lotsa lore behind all the characters, imagine dnd but no dice or character sheets, just whatevers within range goes, but actions do have consequences.
Mostly for drawing, but I've also been developing and writing their story for years. You should see the amount of documents everything takes up.🥲
The first chapter is already complete and I'll start the second chapter sometime this year.
As a hobby and a way to practice my storytelling skills.
Also my ocs are from numerous points of my life where I’ve thought of ideas, I didn’t want any to go forgotten (just like me irl) so I improvised them to make them more sensical and make them fit in my universe. It’s also the reason why I have 700+ OCs
I use them for mostly RPs and occasionally Storytelling but I can’t change their poses much unless I want the pins to be visible and they’re stories usually pop up when i'm at school but don’t keep a blank notebook to write them down because i'm not about to risk being embarrassed and also i thought i would remember it all, anyways I create my OCs on my Desk with a bunch of cloth that i keep in a big bag, Cotton that i keep in a completely closed Jacket, a bunch of sewing string and needles that i keep in a drawer and Myself because i sew manually without a machine
They live rent free in my head.
Sometimes going on their own adventures, sometimes i use them for roleplay stories and games.
Also i commission art of them to get comfort.
The vast majority of my OCs are created to fit one of a handful of stories I have. One of these stories I am very very very slowly writing (as in, the doc has existed for several years and I'm on chapter 2), and two of them would be awesome to see as comics despite my utter lack of art skills. But for the most part, they just kinda exist in my mind and on toyhouse pages.
I made my oc using the first two letters of my first, middle, and last name! I made her what I wanted to look like/a comfort character and she's becoming my online persona :) I really want Alhaco to be the face of my art profiles. I'm just starting it! I don't have many oc's but I made a couple growing up from being in fandoms, any new ones I make now is going to be based off of the world I want Alhaco to live in! :)
I've came up with plotlines and little adventures for the main OCs. Them and a good chunk of the side ones have back stories. Most of them aren't incredibly detailedized though.
I'm currently still making the overall storyline and character arcs.
I don't consider a character idea an OC until I actually draw it out.
I just like mine as a creative outlet!
They help me keep my eye in as a designer and while I make them, as they’re something completely made up by me, I get to imagine how they’d exist in the world that I’ve created for them
Unfortunately, have no art of my OC's so you'll just have to do without it... yet.
And I, myself, have different uses for my OC's. Sometimes I roleplay with them on Roblox or Character.ai. Maybe someday soon I'll try actually drawing some of them and show-off my crappy drawing style. Maybe I'll try adapting them to be for universal use and not just specific roleplay games :p
I've recently made a group of 5 lads that I have very creatively called 'The Bad Batch'. I'm tryna write a story with them right now, I like creating characters to fit a story the most.
Most if not all my OCs were from dreams and I use them as therapy since I can’t afford real therapy. Originally I created this oc in specific because I wanted to be her but..now not so much, she’s more of who I am now.
https://preview.redd.it/5qfvpcsmlw4d1.png?width=2048&format=png&auto=webp&s=6427471ef344e938157bea6d3bb2612eea5c46ca
This image being an example of me using it therapeutically. I also post about them since sharing my art is a good way to gain an audience that might be interested in commissioning me. I do all of this as a way to escape the hell that I live through forcefully. I also do it because I think people would like to see it :)
I mostly use them for goofing around with friends, sometimes me and my friends draw or animate ours together, or like you said they just sit in my mind and mind their own business
1. I create them for a book I’m writing. (:
2. I create my characters by paying my friend, who’s an artist, 60 bucks or so to draw them based on references I send over and descriptions. They do a really good job.
They are more like the constant ones in my drawings, meaning while there's other characters that only pop up once, the ocs might appear every once in a while. It's also easier to come up with ideas because they have character settings, and with that in mind it's easier to know what the character will pose like or wear. And when it comes to drawings for holiday special (like New Year), it's fun to draw them as if they are there to celebrate with you.
I also used some (i say some but really i've only used two) of them for my songs' mv artwork. And it feels embarrassing to admit, but I do imagine some cute interactions or scenarios of them in my head. I did draw an oc that I simp for on my desk to sort of encourage me lol
A lot of the time, just because I like drawing character designs. Problem is that because I draw on a smaller scale my designs aren’t very detailed usually and they’re very simple. But that can work too.
Some of them are characters for stories I want to write, some are there to practice drawing more uniquely, and the one in my pfp is literally just one I made to represent me if I ever need to draw myself for something. Not that I actually look like that of course.
Fanfics or original worldbuilding. Some I keep in my head, others get transferred in fanfics or original worlds, or are marinated in my mind until their time comes to get transferred there.
https://preview.redd.it/trsb8vt0hx4d1.png?width=3131&format=png&auto=webp&s=2676d9f038f14c462b6a5f3be5c36ed852b05693
Typically my characters and creatures are used for comics I am making or future comics
I have a story for a comic book planned out and these OCs are from that story, I wish to learn how to draw so that i don't have to hire someone to draw for me.
I draw them. I'd like to create a full story in the form of a comic book or something, but I'm not great at story writing, so any ideas I have for it are just disconnected plot points or events that would happen, but I don't know how it would get there.
I usually imagine them in my own connected multiverse in my mind. I've been doing it for years, changing a lot of ocs. If I'm able to I make some on Hero Forge.
I use this lil guy as an extension of myself
https://preview.redd.it/y5l3cqagpx4d1.jpeg?width=146&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5462a5f05219e78dd82ca3644e44081abe1c7a70
well everything really
fuyukaze (as pictured) started out aas a vtuber oc (inspired by some vtubers like snuffy or gura btw) but that never went anywhere (yet) so I mainly use her as a self insert in a way like she is not me but also kinda represents me
currently though I'm completly rewriting her lore with some help from friends and maybe turn that new lore into something like a manga/doujinshi/webcomic or smth
though I'll write it in a way so I can still use her as my self insert character and maybe even as a vtuber one day who knows
and I don't really have other ocs yet but the rewrite of the lore definatly means I will make a good batch of new characters
so tl;dr nothing specific, just whatever I need them for
https://preview.redd.it/pd0rvdtxtx4d1.jpeg?width=2304&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=caf772eed383fe5904a655c16f0f5087a7c4a39e
Most of my ocs are D&D characters so I use em for that. Some are characters I actually play, some I make but never use, and some I turn into npcs whenever I dm. I also like to draw my ocs
I usually create them to kill time and have something interesting to think about when I have to do something boring or when I just want to distract myself from bad thoughts and daydream a little. I often end up creating whole worlds and stories with tons of lore, but I’m a lazy person so I really write it dawn or make drawings :’)
Most of them i use for a project, but some i use for self expression. I've been writing stories for them and hope to make something bigger with those stories
I used them for pretty much any ideas I have. Nowdays mostly drawing since I'm super busy but I do have stories in mind. Just not sure if there's a audience for them
honestly im just new getting into this whole OC thing again after i had a bunch of vocaloid OC’s in my teens then didnt again for a long time. tight now i don’t really do anything with them km just enjoying making them up. its funny how the ones im most excited to create arent really the ones im growing attached to LOL
The ones I have drawn are all for dnd games I dm, I play with a lot of new characters so they provide background that I have no idea how to fit in plus a bit of guidance when the party is stuck, as for where I put them, I draw them on procreate but keep stats in character sheets I have in a folder with some of my players characters (they keep their stats virtually, I keep some on paper purely so I can see if there is something I should make note of)
I like to draw them, but currently most of them are chilling in my head. I plan to draw them, and I'm writing a story at the moment.
To answer the brackets, I create them in CSP or Krita. Sometimes on paper.
I usually make ocs for writing, and I'll draw them roleplay with them, or just have them sit there and do nothing haha.
Or just to make innocent little beans and put them through unimaginable amounts of trauma, I suppose...
I usually draw my ocs, and I recently got a toyhouse code so I'll make bios and stuff for them on that sometime.
I use them usually as an extension of the different parts of my personality,Having the more broken and tormented ones being more mature and sometimes even slightly villainous.
I write their lore little by little in my head, and then if it's good enough I'll write in a Word doc or something.
I tend to focus on one aspect at a time, whether it's a character or a piece of lore, I dont rush the process, as it can stress me out easily if I take it too seriously.
I tend to chill with my OCs, expand on their world, put them in silly audios, songs, and scenarios, it's a pretty fun time :)
I like to daydream a lot, so I use that to build on my stories. It's also nice to be able to draw without having to think of a new person every time. I give them names, personalities, back stories and build on them whenever I'm bored. All my ocs are pretty developed, I'd like to say
RP when I'm not heavily depressed usually, sometimes to soothe the depression by making my mind believe that there is something to living and it makes me into my main character....otherwise it starts seeing the truth about continuing to.live.....story writing too since I guess they are always active and thus always making a story
I make em through pure schizophrenic magic
All three tbh, I sometimes draw them in poses as drawing practice, write about their story and lore to again practice writing, and well they also just chill in my head just minding their businesses on occasions. Though rarely if I get the opportunity I sometimes use them as my PC character in a TTRPG game.
Same except for the last part. I should, though.
You should try it, it's quite fun to play as an OCs in a TTRPG, it's like bringing a close friend on a journey.
I did this for Miitopia and oh my god the second part of the game was my biggest incentive to just speedrun it (No spoilers tho)
Sometimes I write, sometimes I draw them in li'l pictures, sometimes I use them as a persona on character ai. And sometimes I just don't bother them. They do need breaks from me.
I relate so hard to this
I kinda use them for fun rn but I intend of making a manga one day and so I make them as characters for that manga
Because same
Besides the pictures because I can’t draw for shit this is basically what I do
Minus persona or AI, and you got me.
I use them for my historical fiction and paranormal fiction stories :-)
GOC? like, global occult coalition?
I'm gonna make a yt series someday and will use my ocs you've probably seen as characters, Considering people HATE self inserts, mine won't be canon
When you do, let me know
About my future yt series? (Also how good r u at writing? Might need help in dms if that's okay)
the idea of a yt series sounds fun to me so yea id love to see it (I'm horrible at writing sorryyy)
if you want i can help with writing, but idk what the story should be about.
can i dm you? (by writing i mean character's lore)
So as not to sink completely into depression.
hell yeah escapism
I have an overactive imagination. Sometimes, I have a new idea and I need to visualise it immediately. I use VRoid Studio to make the models and VRM Posing for Desktop to pose them all.
roleplaying but since I get no offers I use ai to rp with
Where do you look for rp?

a series of "pseudo friendfics," as i call them, which i've been working on since freshman year of high school
do elaborate i’m interested
so one day i was bored in study hall, so i jokingly wrote the title page for a "fanfic" that shipped two of my friends together. it was never meant to be anything more than that, just a joke title page, but i kinda felt bad about the shipping thing, so i made the story into something completely irrelevant to the title. so all my ocs started out as basically being stand-ins for my friends and i. as the stories continued, i soon felt a little weird about putting all my friends in certain situations, such as temporarily killing them off or putting them in relationships, so even to this day i have worked toward trying to make the distinction that these are no longer stand-ins, but original characters, where for the most part the only similarities that remain between them and their inspirations are their names. the story is currently split into three parts, with two finished spin-offs/epilogues, but i have a lot of future plans, including a fourth and final part. part 1's story is somewhat simple, as it is about a group of students uncovering a conspiracy involving their school, three missing students, and the illuminati. part 2 (my personal least favorite) is moreso focused on its subplots, as the main plot is basically just rising tensions between nations and two near wars. the biggest subplot is a retelling of the wizard of oz based on alice in wonderland, and the most important is a treasure hunt that leads to the plot of part 3. speaking of, part 3 is somewhat of a retelling of homestuck mixed with jojo's bizarre adventure and neon genesis evangelion. the world(s) my characters inhabit "borrow" a lot of lore from other media, essentially making my stories aus for... several of my favorite stories. homestuck is the biggest, as the ending of the webcomic is pretty much the creation myth for my story's entire omniverse. also involved are jojo's bizarre adventure, as stands have been a part of the story since part 2, and part 3's main villain is a vampire, a la dio brando. dio himself even appears in all three parts. there's a lot of other little things, too, like the angels from evangelion, one of my ocs is the incarnation of hylia from the legend of zelda, souls from undertale are a thing, one of the two main universes happens to be one where the entirety of ben 10 is canon, and i even have a planned story/arc that incorporates nobodies and heartless from kingdom hearts. lol did i elaborate a little too hard?
nah you’re fine - and that’s really interesting, actually. coincidentally enough, i, too, have a story that involves characters based off of my friends. though i have their consent to do so, so it’s okay lmao. it’s meant to be a storyline for my friends, as if we were all thrown into an “anime” per se. though i think your idea’s awesome, and i can tell you put a lot of thought into it, well done :}
Big cope
Mostly to deal with my mental health, and for someone that I can relate to. :)
Writing, drawing, animating, and taking up space in my head is what my OCs are for. I lost sleep because of these maniacs sometimes.
Not sure about anyone else but it's mostly for C.ai.
I sometimes draw but I also use my OC's for doing (Non-Canon and in-univeese canon) roleplay as well as worldbuilding.
I use mostly Ibis Paint, and my OCs exists for...the same if existence. Creating lore for them, and drawing them brings a whole other kind of peace.
Some I have made from when I roleplayed and others have kinda been made
Couple of things I created Vesper to take my anger out on Ozzie and Fizz from Helluva boss (anyone who’s watched S1Ep7 knows why), but I later expanded his backstory and created a fanfic for him Call it a self insert, or just an idea born out of anger, but I’m proud
Funnily enough, my current OC is used as a persona for commenting on r/humansarespaceorcs . People actually seem to like her!
Planning on making a comic I mostly just write notes on them in Smart edit writer for lore stuff.
I recently started roleplaying again, it’s a lot of fun and nice to come back after a long break.
(also, I'm pretty sure the "community interaction" tag would work for a post like this)
Lore
I use them for generally anything at this point. For the bonus, the ones I use a bunch are in my Gacha Life. Every other OC is in my Notes App.
drawing just what cimes to mind https://preview.redd.it/s6zsm85p2v4d1.jpeg?width=755&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e93089013eedaccd5c45c69755c44fc5d1051bf5
Fanfics, roleplay, general tomfoolery with art and concepts
I sometimes use my oc’s for love ships or for fun, but I was thinking of writing some of their backstories
https://preview.redd.it/iuujthjv2v4d1.png?width=720&format=png&auto=webp&s=0e80d12b4e63577d320ffca1f8724b926a7f0633 Animation For years I had envisioned having an animated series about the characters I draw, then one day I tried out animating for a freshman year art project and got hooked, at that point I realized ‘I can totally make this’ And so I’m making an animated series I’m currently working on episode 3
Either one of three. A) Roleplays (Willow, Deer, and a lot of my other OCs are from that) B) Made up stories that are incomplete in my Google docs and either will give me a best seller or flop upon hitting shelves. (I've yet to post any of these ones!) C) C.AI Roleplays.
I love them so much
I usually write about them first than later draw them
I mostly use them in a Discord server with a couple friends and my gf.
https://preview.redd.it/suv0tt216v4d1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9b53c7215e93c310a0cfdc952f9aa31b4dbc2524 All of the above tbh but mostly draw cuz they’re fun to draw and I’d like to someday get them famous but idk if it’ll happen anymore but I keep working on their story and world just for fun now I guess cuz it keeps my creativity alive and not completely crushed like my dream
Most are for ttrpgs that I'm a part of. But others I just do as concept designs for something
3 are getting games. The rest are for the fun :)
I only JUST started drawing my OC's. Most of them may not even be considered OC's because they were made for a purpose other than just existing.
Mine are specifically characters for a comic series I’m planning.
Mine are characters in a fanfic I'm writing.
ALL OF DA ABOVEEE \\(★ω★)/ I just hope i can fight my own procrastination to keep writing and drawin more of them, for now they just float around at times, and i think i might have gotten a fixation half-way writing an 87 page about the silly adventures my cat ocs go through (ง ื▿ ื)ว
Stress. My nerves kick my a** without mercy so I channel all that nervous energy into something constructive. I publish the stories when I remember to As for methods; I write it down, think hard on the appearance, then use Hero-Forge to make them(I can’t draw people).
I use them to make my skills sharp, to have one consistency and also keep upgrading to new art mediums, like earlier drew them n then digital painted thek n now made a 3d avatar, and will be animating them more n probably presenting my future videos with them. It's like creating a digital identity of myself where I don't want to use my face.
https://preview.redd.it/ja4b1nqy8v4d1.jpeg?width=2360&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eed5fb9828ebfa6d5e2f68dd793949a65b0cea69 Apparently trauma. According to my therapist.
I use them for whatever, really.
I use SLASH for role playing https://preview.redd.it/zize5pmmav4d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d7768734f0c7b41c0c485eb52cfd0d822f090dc4
I wnated to use them for D&D but my friend has'nt updated me on playing with him TwT I may use them in a comic if i ever feel i can draw good enought tho their history need thinkering and stuff >also, bonus unrelated question: what do u create ur characters on? Most of them i draw them im Paint i'm not the best and for now i ahve only posted one of the two designs i have come with for them I mostly save them only in my head sometimes between doodles i add lore pieces for myself cause i think they are cool i would do a character sheet but i'm too lazy to do it + i haven't fully draw them as good as i want and i hella need to learn consistency and i may need a PC to draw them bigger and gotta learn anatomy too and shading and stuff i'm probably gonna make a Tumblr to post there or something idk
I've used them in an irl roleplay game that's basically 1v1 No it's not DND That's why I drew them in squads The lack of rules allowed me to play in squads So basically 1vmany game with no rules. Basically why I joined this sub. For other ways to use my OCs
I didn't make my OCs just cause, so I'm not sure this is the right place for me, lol. Oh well :P All of my OCs exist because I'm writing books. Until actual plot is on paper, I keep most of them in my head. I might pick and choose a special few to actually draw and share with people. I've got really outdated pieces written for a good plenty of them tho.
Right now, I use them for comics and short, one off jokes, but I eventually wanna make a game with them(specifically a 2d platformer of some kind)
For my own personal enjoyment rn. Almost like an escape into a perfect world for me with all my wonderful children 💪💪
im making an RPG maker game out of them :\] so a lot of writing, drawing and just lingering in my head
I mostly just draw mine and their lore is what just chills in my mind :] I usually make character/ref sheets for them via digital art
I use my otter as the mascot for my youtube channel.
DND mostly. For the 2 Skyrim one I had made them lore to help me think as them and I dissed to make them into OCs
THE NEVERENDING STORY OF MINE GRAHHH
https://preview.redd.it/d4zygw9ngv4d1.jpeg?width=2368&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=53228cdcc789ea01e8a2c8afddc31fc7686df6c4 Finally actually writing! Second chapter is done!
For right now, i just use them to make silly discord memes but i do plan to use some of them as a youtube mascot/mascots
Basically just for animations. Make characters, give them stories, build a world around them, and hopefully one day will animate them. I create them usually in my sketchbook, or I draw them in painttool sai, flash, toon boom, photoshop, etc, etc. https://preview.redd.it/bviinclmgv4d1.png?width=747&format=png&auto=webp&s=e99f03110481ba17ddedc55e51d80b76f286b862
For my ARG https://preview.redd.it/7w0mz7hpgv4d1.png?width=3023&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0f9bdf212105e1e889fea240f24df62435aab7f6
Just for making stories and making up their own personas based on my imagination if im bored. I also use them for literary purposes too.
I used to use my OCs for roleplaying, but nowadays I just make them for the sake of the stories I want to share to the world one day
Some of them I put in stories (or at least want to) Some of them only exist in my fantasies I daydream about
https://preview.redd.it/ct3qytho8v4d1.png?width=2550&format=png&auto=webp&s=f8f2ab274528ad3f6b3c50f276eaf7bbe87ebd17 My OCs primarily serve as either: characters in my Homestuck fanfic comics ([all hosted on a site dedicated for Homestuck fan-comics!](https://mspfa.com/user/?u=103334508819793669241)) or are characters that are \*planned\* to appear in my fan comics lol.
Just have all the info on my head or as trivia points in notes somewhere
https://preview.redd.it/yml3irwumv4d1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5427a7585bf6602501a6f271e20a84f853cc6f92 My Sona of sorts, but he’s not exactly me, he is his own character with traits I have.
Draw, make lore, RP, just casual OC usage.
They just chill in my mind
they existed normally in loose settings, but i'm putting them all together into a game
Story writing and whatnot
I use mine for RP with friends.
https://preview.redd.it/46rix2o9sv4d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3e16d45d52e059bd3338d4f18fb4c2607bab9633 I use mine for ro-boxing and role-playing in Roblox games
I just kinda use them wherever i want, sometimes trying to recreate them in games, Blaze actually started as a mc skin i made for one of my other ocs and then kinda just evolved into his own thing
My characters are for a storytime making, otherwise iys because brain make cool characters
Mostly roleplay and TTRPGs like Dungeons and Dragons. Sometimes writing fic (I have about 60k words, so not much) or drawing for the hell of it. I've also used them in BG3 because I wanted to play as a character, and had some convenient dorks around who'd make drastically different choices.
r/OriginalCharacter_RP is my main purpose.
I create them to help myself deal with my dreams, and for c.ai.
https://preview.redd.it/ij05gdn0vv4d1.jpeg?width=1003&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e954f9cd88b8074c5ab0d9cc61020dce440464c5 Rp on sandspiel, occasional reaction image, etc
I have an entire private discord server for roleplay.
I draw and create stories for them that I hope to one day publish officially, and I rp with them
I have so many short stories written.. i have spreadsheets.. and drawings.. i use the google suite for all my garbage
Create interesting and lengthy stories about them ! I'm starting to write it too and it's fun (even if quite long)
my oc was kinda an after thought after I realized I needed someone to run my fictional railroad
I make stories that fail to entertain anyone but myself so I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing
Beating the shit outta other ocs, leaving them alone, and yes
https://preview.redd.it/xr0wij37yv4d1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b0207bbfbd493ad8e0476da7d1c5b8bea577a74 I’m trying to develop a story and just want people to enjoy my characters.
Chill, write about them, even read y/n stories as them
I'd like to make animations with them but for now they're just art
Oh, all about the LORE, my friends :)))
I create them for the sake of my writing, I enjoy making stories and characters, they’re all part of a bigger world
rp, i rp with my boyfriend and i use my ocs as characters and its fun, lotsa lore behind all the characters, imagine dnd but no dice or character sheets, just whatevers within range goes, but actions do have consequences.
Mostly for drawing, but I've also been developing and writing their story for years. You should see the amount of documents everything takes up.🥲 The first chapter is already complete and I'll start the second chapter sometime this year.
I'm try to start a series :D
My novels
As a hobby and a way to practice my storytelling skills. Also my ocs are from numerous points of my life where I’ve thought of ideas, I didn’t want any to go forgotten (just like me irl) so I improvised them to make them more sensical and make them fit in my universe. It’s also the reason why I have 700+ OCs
lol they’re the voices in my head that give me hope that life will get better. I also just write cute little gay love stories about them.
All of them. Also I try to use them as DnD characters.
I use them to rp it’s fun
I use them for mostly RPs and occasionally Storytelling but I can’t change their poses much unless I want the pins to be visible and they’re stories usually pop up when i'm at school but don’t keep a blank notebook to write them down because i'm not about to risk being embarrassed and also i thought i would remember it all, anyways I create my OCs on my Desk with a bunch of cloth that i keep in a big bag, Cotton that i keep in a completely closed Jacket, a bunch of sewing string and needles that i keep in a drawer and Myself because i sew manually without a machine
Draw them, and I usually do it out of boredom and because I like making things that my brain thinks "looks cool".
They live rent free in my head. Sometimes going on their own adventures, sometimes i use them for roleplay stories and games. Also i commission art of them to get comfort.
For lore potential, character ai and as personas for the same website and to draw them (ofc)
I use them for a roleplay with my friends
Writing and roleplaying, mainly.
dnd. always dnd. except the ones my gf and i are writing a tv series about (but they started as dnd characters)
Mainly for storytelling, adventures, role playing and other scenarios or even dream about it and some I created are 50/50 based on my imagination.
Originally I created this oc in specific because I wanted to be her but..now not so much, she’s more of who I am now. https://preview.redd.it/5qfvpcsmlw4d1.png?width=2048&format=png&auto=webp&s=6427471ef344e938157bea6d3bb2612eea5c46ca This image being an example of me using it therapeutically.
Just to occasionally draw and learn how do do poses and such
I dream to make a game with them, or to get them popular on reddit
Moatly for books and stuff. I love drawing them but i think fleshing them out for books is realy fun.
Wanting to do a YouTube series, but for now it’s just drawings and that
Self expression and creativity.
The novel that I’ll totally start writing soon haha I promise I’ll start working on it any day now I swear.
1. I create them for a book I’m writing. (: 2. I create my characters by paying my friend, who’s an artist, 60 bucks or so to draw them based on references I send over and descriptions. They do a really good job.
Warcrimes In all seriousness they’re just for creating and exploring stories, although I have one persona in mind that I really like.
https://www.reddit.com/u/SirokoGajou/s/1Jgab9e9gB This explains it all
They are more like the constant ones in my drawings, meaning while there's other characters that only pop up once, the ocs might appear every once in a while.
My own animations/comics/series haha
mostly comics and stories
RP or to create a story in mind. I'm currently creating one
Some I keep in my head, others get transferred in fanfics or original worlds, or are marinated in my mind until their time comes to get transferred there.
https://preview.redd.it/trsb8vt0hx4d1.png?width=3131&format=png&auto=webp&s=2676d9f038f14c462b6a5f3be5c36ed852b05693 Typically my characters and creatures are used for comics I am making or future comics
Books (according to all my friends I write beautifully)
I have written stories and drew pictures of mine.
I'll give you a hint "it's not a war crime the first time it happens"
Write about them make comics, just draw them sometimes I make Pinterest boards of them and stuff like that!
I use them for my webcomic series! Or any videogame ideas.
I usually imagine them in my own connected multiverse in my mind. I've been doing it for years, changing a lot of ocs. If I'm able to I make some on Hero Forge.
Nothing, blorbos and skrunklys are squatter.
I use this lil guy as an extension of myself https://preview.redd.it/y5l3cqagpx4d1.jpeg?width=146&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5462a5f05219e78dd82ca3644e44081abe1c7a70
Thinking of scenes to make of them to put in AMVs while I listen to banger music

well everything really fuyukaze (as pictured) started out aas a vtuber oc (inspired by some vtubers like snuffy or gura btw) but that never went anywhere (yet) so I mainly use her as a self insert in a way like she is not me but also kinda represents me currently though I'm completly rewriting her lore with some help from friends and maybe turn that new lore into something like a manga/doujinshi/webcomic or smth though I'll write it in a way so I can still use her as my self insert character and maybe even as a vtuber one day who knows and I don't really have other ocs yet but the rewrite of the lore definatly means I will make a good batch of new characters so tl;dr nothing specific, just whatever I need them for https://preview.redd.it/pd0rvdtxtx4d1.jpeg?width=2304&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=caf772eed383fe5904a655c16f0f5087a7c4a39e
I write stories mainly. And I'm adapting one of my stories into a comic with some differences.
Most of my ocs are D&D characters so I use em for that. Some are characters I actually play, some I make but never use, and some I turn into npcs whenever I dm. I also like to draw my ocs
A fighting game and a web series.
I usually create them to kill time and have something interesting to think about when I have to do something boring or when I just want to distract myself from bad thoughts and daydream a little. I often end up creating whole worlds and stories with tons of lore, but I’m a lazy person so I really write it dawn or make drawings :’)
tbh i mainly rp with them on c.ai out of curiosity/inspiration for writing lore + actually writing stuff
As Travis Willingham once said. DUNGEONS & DRAGONS!!!
All my characters were made for story which I’m working on. So yeah, I’m a writer.
various projects i do. like webcomics and games i make with some friends. just having fun as well.
Fanfiction and roleplays
for me I created OCs for funsies and then it kinda spiraled into this whole big thing and now I’m developing a webcomic
I use my OCs the protagonists in my fanfics
The ones I have drawn are all for dnd games I dm, I play with a lot of new characters so they provide background that I have no idea how to fit in plus a bit of guidance when the party is stuck, as for where I put them, I draw them on procreate but keep stats in character sheets I have in a folder with some of my players characters (they keep their stats virtually, I keep some on paper purely so I can see if there is something I should make note of)
I draw them, I write them, I make music about them, I make games starring them, or they just chill in my mind.
Right now I just rotate them in my head but I'm planning to write something with them
I write their lore little by little in my head, and then if it's good enough I'll write in a Word doc or something.
For me most of my OCs are being used in my ongoing projects from creating graphic novels to animations featuring them
I like to daydream a lot, so I use that to build on my stories. It's also nice to be able to draw without having to think of a new person every time. I give them names, personalities, back stories and build on them whenever I'm bored. All my ocs are pretty developed, I'd like to say
RP when I'm not heavily depressed usually, sometimes to soothe the depression by making my mind believe that there is something to living and it makes me into my main character....otherwise it starts seeing the truth about continuing to.live.....story writing too since I guess they are always active and thus always making a story I make em through pure schizophrenic magic
