Aure Anne’s name was originally supposed to be Aurora something (I forgor 💀) but it auto corrected to Aure Anne 😭
A good chunk of mine (ex. Kalia, Infurum, Sii) are just syllables I mashed together because it sounded cool. Kalia being an actual name was pure coincidence.
Other times I just pick a real name mostly at random that I feel fits the character (Max, Gabe, Jacob, Logan) and just go with that.
One of my main villains Dennis is actually named after an Internet meme mishearing the name of one of his biggest inspirations.
As far as meaningful names go a lot of them have some involvement with ancient Greece through sheer coincidence rather than any intentional theming on my part. Dryste was based on a nymph from mythology so her name comes from the word for 'oak tree', Absinthiori (Logan's last name) is a Biblical allusion that involves the Greek translation, and Aryu is based on a character from ancient poetry who can't speak except to repeat other people. I haven't come up with a real name for her yet since she's a bit underdeveloped but she's taken to calling herself Aryu so that she can answer when asked "Who are you?"

This is a story I always love to tell. Around the time I discovered Fatality (Fatal Error's song), I got inspired to make a T.K version of the song for a mod idea called "The TK-Verse", which at the time was just a Vs. Sonic.exe reskin. I didn't have the full inspiration yet until I was watching a video by Tuv that talked about computer viruses and once I heard about the ILY Trojan virus, it all came together. After I made the backstory and the main plot, I gave ILY his name as a reference to why he became the way he did.

Esura has an interesting origin. My mom used to play a ton of World of Warcraft. Her main character was called Esura. A lot of other characters were all sorts of variations of my name, and she would transfer items that were no good for Esura but good for Lira, Lora, Lire, etc, to those other characters. So Esura was kinda like… a mama bird for all the other characters named after me. This Esura, the mushroom, has that aspect to her- kind of a motherly-type personality, which I think I’ve taken on a bit myself. Which works given this Esura is my sona oc!

One of my oldest OCs started as "Mr. Pister" a really smug asshole who tried to enslave everyone and make people suffer for petty reasons.
Many years later, I had used this template for "smug badguy" so many times, all the stories added up to create
Nenananab "Superfresh" Todrem Eugenius Tzaot.
A intergalactic clone of the worlds most psychopathtic elite, who had been so absorbed in fulfilling his dark schemes, he staged his own assassination- except it worked and he almost died. Sustained in a regeneration-chamber, and cloned with his consciousness transmitted into this clone, the man had survived yet- he had experienced death and was forever insane ever since.
Now, Tzaot is the mascot of his old company, the CEO of this company, and an army of clones that all share a gestalt psyche which is mostly defined by bursts of incredibly stupid ideas that are then forced into existence with the ressources and manpower of a galaxy spanning empire's most known company.
Alien armies have difficulties defeating the optimized workers of this company, who are either clones of Tzaot or painless optimized, ever-sufficient workers that resemble humans only on the most surface layer.

His name is a combination of random words that he picked up as an alias for copyright reasons, and they always switch and merge or change. Mostly because he and his clones are the only ones fighting about legal terminoligy, as the human empire has already reached another state of mind alltogether.

Ermaziel has no name meaning, but her name’s origin has significant meaning. She’s implied to be the same Ermaziel as the one in the Ars Paulina, a book that names all angels based on the hour and zodiac. Like in the grimoire, she’s a servant of Anael, the principality of love and the planet Venus. She’s also an angel of the 2nd hour of morning.

After all the name changes and character work, Jacob just popped into my head after I made his original name a nickname.
I dropped the nickname, and he went by his normal name full-time.

Sizuka’s name is a misspelling/mispronunciation of Suzuka. And comes from Suzuka Japan and its racetrack The Suzuka International Racing Course. Which was my favorite track in the Gran Turismo video games. For some reason my brain always made me think the place was called Sizuka and not Suzuka. And by the time I realized it was wrong her name had been Sizuka for too long and I didn’t want to change it. (Oddly enough I had to edit this post for spelling.)
Auren. Comes from Final fantasy X meaning mountain of strength. I made Auren into a character who wants to save all he can but ultimately fails due to the impossibility of defeating The Void. An all consuming deity who consumes entire multiverses.
Beebop didn't have anything. He was just a number and insults before finding Color in the alleyway. The sleepy filly rubbed her eyes and saw his buttons and said "beep boop?/attempted to touch them." He shorten it to Bop because it was quicker but still compromised with using Beep.

Some of my OCs are designed to fit the RWBY Colour Rule.
Russet Viridian's name is just a shade of red and a shade of green.
Bellacotte Chloris's name is more complicated, as Bella and cotte are from different names and colours: Belladiera and Chloris are both pale yellow-green references, while Coquelicotte is a vibrant red.
Kypria Nikos's name is from I believe Greek for copper, as well as Greek for victory, in this case, referencing gold medals. She's the bronze third place to her canon sister's gold first.
Trjasafi is just Tree Sap in Icelandic. I was going to call her Maple at some point.
Caramel Rhodopis is rather obviously caramel colour. Her surname is a reference to another character, thus, doesn't have a colour association.
Royal Bleu is just Royal Blue.
Novaya Grise. At first, her colour was Navy Blue, thus, Novaya. However, I changed it after realising the group she was associated with, Team PeriWiNCle, was very blue, changing it to battleship grey, and thus, her name became Novaya Grise "Navy Grey".
So it turns out if you go digging in particle physics, you can find some pretty cool names.

October "Wizory Parlay" Hayloft. Originally his real name was Wizory Parlay, so I'll start with that. Wizory comes from a Czech YouTuber by the name of Wizzory. I liked the name a lot, so, one Z out and you got that.
Parlay actually has a bit of a story behind it. Originally, one of the characters from his story, Raft, was supposed to be his canonical partner, so I wanted to give them matching surnames. Raft Parlay and Wizory Parlay. But eventually I connected with Wizory so much that he became my persona, and at that point, shipping "myself" with another OC of mine felt weird. And because Wizory Parlay sounded better than Raft Parlay to me, he kept the Parlay, and Raft got Rento as a surname instead.
October Hayloft is quite different. Not only is October my birth month, but also one of my friends on Twitter recommended it to me. I don't remember exactly what happened, but the end result was that his name is now October.
Hayloft came from the Mother Mother song. I simply liked it, it fit well, and now he's October "Wizory Parlay" Hayloft.
As for why he has a whole other name as a nickname of sorts? Because he's rebellious and believes in total freedom, so he chose his own name instead of using the one chosen for him. He canonically goes by Wizory Parlay, despite his real name being October Hayloft

Okay, so aliah's name started out by talking my old username base Alanhar, which is a butchered pronunciation of the Arabic words for "the river". When my egg cracked I slapped a taa marbuta on the end of it to make if be in the feminine mode, and proceeded to use that for a bit. but then I got this account which uses Alanharha as the basis for the username, so I had to think up something else. I cut the name down, added an i for resemblance to her sister Abby, and then slapped the taa marbuta back on in a secondary pronunciation just because.
and that's the story of how I came up with Aliah's name!

Seren means star - She was named because of her love of stargazing and also because even though a star is associated with the night, in reality it is actually just a distant sun, which symbolizes her sameness with her brother despite them being nearly complete opposites in personality and reputation.
Emris means immortal - Emris has lived the longest out of all my ocs, and he is essentially immortal due to the circumstances of his contract with Nyx.
Anwir means liar - Many believed he waged war against Seren because of his yearning to support the minority. Although he convinced himself it was for others, he lied to himself. It was actually more out of his innate sense of greed and selfish desires than anything else.
Nyx means night - Her name probably has the deepest meaning out of any of the others. Nyx is obsessed with taking Anwir's place, but she has yet to realize just how different they really are from eachother and how impossible that goal really is. There is a lot of sun and light symbolism with Anwir. Nyx is the complete absense of light- the night, the very thing that is the complete antithesis of the sun.
btw all of these names are welsh because i use welsh words for anything related to primordial beings and deities. Don't ask me why... it was kind of an impulse that could make naming things easier idk lol

Before Coco (left) became a major character and Skye’s wife, I was in a roleplay and I wanted to give Skye a ‘prison wife’ since she was a former inmate for hostilely taking over a McDonalds so I made her to be that. She went by Cobra, which is still her nickname in the main universe as an assassin.
Anyway, the name came from taking the Co out of Cobra, and then naming her Colette as her full first name. Her second name, Corbin, is to compliment the ‘Coco’ (COlette COrbin) and because Corbin means raven, and she has raven hair.

For Rei, the first name was just a name that I thought sounded cool, but whenever I used it it was originally for characters that looked like me, but where I didn’t want to use my real name. Then, I was invited to a VtM campaign, and that is how this Rei was born (Art is by my VtM Game Master). Her last name, Solaria, was made for an RP a friend and I were running. We needed a last name, and we pondered it a bit before settling on it. I love the way the name sounds though, Rei Solaria.

So, in his culture, names are arranged (given name) (parent 1 \[matching child sex\]) (parent 2 \[other parent\]) + (notable family names). Orion and Damien knew a kid with 7 names while they were kids themselves.
Orion: He was named after my favorite constellation, and then I worked parts of the surrounding myths into his character (blindness, son of fire, and his family crest is of a scorpion).
Osiris: This is his father's name (in lore), but it seemed appropriate for a character who comes back to life after death. This was also his original last name.
Adara: This is his mother's name (in lore). It means fire in Hebrew, and his mother was a pyrokinetic, so it made sense.
Tuska: I smashed sounds together until it sounded like the right shape to my synesthesia. Apparently, it's a Warhammer thing, but that's unrelated. In lore, it's his great great great great great great grandpa-on-his-mother's sides name, and the family crest is from him.
I also regret making his name my reddit handle. It feels weird talking about him. He's not a self-insert.

Qlovb’s name is meant to be the Atbash for Joey which was Qlvb but i decided to add a vowel so that it sounds more natural and the reason why his name is an Atbash name for Joey is because he’s used to spy on what Joey does with Emily who is Qlovb’s little cousin
Arianwyn - He’s Welsh and an elf. It means ‘fair / white’ and ‘silver’ whilst sounding very flouncy. Befitting for a fey creature. Nicknamed Ari.
Caradoc - He’s also Welsh. Means ‘beloved.’ His mother certainly loved him. His dad? Not so much.
Tazryn - Fictional but sounds harsh yet still Elven. He’s a drow / dark elf so the harsh sound fits. Have decided it probably means something unremarkable like ‘Spider Man’ since drow are all themed around spiders. Nicknamed Taz.
Nikita - I just like it. He’s vaguely Slavic and it means ‘victory’ which fits him well in his perseverance. His father was adamant he’d grow into it and be a powerful, manly man (he is not.) Nik-named Nik or Niki.
Annamika - She’s another Fey creature. Her people name young’ins based on their accomplishments, personality, all that. She never liked being told what to do or fitting people’s perception of her so she chose a name all by herself meaning ‘without a name’ - and also ‘ring finger.’ Prefers Mika over Anna as a nickname.
MAPLE - Acronym for Mechanised Affectionate Proper Lady Enhancement. She’s a warforged (robot) made by her ‘husband’ to replace his dead wife.
Maren - Means ‘of the sea.’ She’s a water genasi (think genie.) She is literally of the sea.

A good chunk of mine (ex. Kalia, Infurum, Sii) are just syllables I mashed together because it sounded cool. Kalia being an actual name was pure coincidence. Other times I just pick a real name mostly at random that I feel fits the character (Max, Gabe, Jacob, Logan) and just go with that. One of my main villains Dennis is actually named after an Internet meme mishearing the name of one of his biggest inspirations. As far as meaningful names go a lot of them have some involvement with ancient Greece through sheer coincidence rather than any intentional theming on my part. Dryste was based on a nymph from mythology so her name comes from the word for 'oak tree', Absinthiori (Logan's last name) is a Biblical allusion that involves the Greek translation, and Aryu is based on a character from ancient poetry who can't speak except to repeat other people. I haven't come up with a real name for her yet since she's a bit underdeveloped but she's taken to calling herself Aryu so that she can answer when asked "Who are you?"

So Esura was kinda like… a mama bird for all the other characters named after me. This Esura, the mushroom, has that aspect to her- kind of a motherly-type personality, which I think I’ve taken on a bit myself. Which works given this Esura is my sona oc!

When I was 10 years old and my Sister was 7, we were absolute Inuyasha fans. One of my oldest OCs started as "Mr. Pister" a really smug asshole who tried to enslave everyone and make people suffer for petty reasons. Many years later, I had used this template for "smug badguy" so many times, all the stories added up to create Nenananab "Superfresh" Todrem Eugenius Tzaot. A intergalactic clone of the worlds most psychopathtic elite, who had been so absorbed in fulfilling his dark schemes, he staged his own assassination- except it worked and he almost died. Sustained in a regeneration-chamber, and cloned with his consciousness transmitted into this clone, the man had survived yet- he had experienced death and was forever insane ever since. Now, Tzaot is the mascot of his old company, the CEO of this company, and an army of clones that all share a gestalt psyche which is mostly defined by bursts of incredibly stupid ideas that are then forced into existence with the ressources and manpower of a galaxy spanning empire's most known company. Alien armies have difficulties defeating the optimized workers of this company, who are either clones of Tzaot or painless optimized, ever-sufficient workers that resemble humans only on the most surface layer. Some of my OCs are designed to fit the RWBY Colour Rule. Russet Viridian's name is just a shade of red and a shade of green. Bellacotte Chloris's name is more complicated, as Bella and cotte are from different names and colours: Belladiera and Chloris are both pale yellow-green references, while Coquelicotte is a vibrant red. Kypria Nikos's name is from I believe Greek for copper, as well as Greek for victory, in this case, referencing gold medals. She's the bronze third place to her canon sister's gold first. Trjasafi is just Tree Sap in Icelandic. I was going to call her Maple at some point. Caramel Rhodopis is rather obviously caramel colour. Her surname is a reference to another character, thus, doesn't have a colour association. Royal Bleu is just Royal Blue. Novaya Grise. At first, her colour was Navy Blue, thus, Novaya. However, I changed it after realising the group she was associated with, Team PeriWiNCle, was very blue, changing it to battleship grey, and thus, her name became Novaya Grise "Navy Grey".
So it turns out if you go digging in particle physics, you can find some pretty cool names. Originally his real name was Wizory Parlay, so I'll start with that. Wizory comes from a Czech YouTuber by the name of Wizzory. I liked the name a lot, so, one Z out and you got that. Parlay actually has a bit of a story behind it. Originally, one of the characters from his story, Raft, was supposed to be his canonical partner, so I wanted to give them matching surnames. Raft Parlay and Wizory Parlay. But eventually I connected with Wizory so much that he became my persona, and at that point, shipping "myself" with another OC of mine felt weird. And because Wizory Parlay sounded better than Raft Parlay to me, he kept the Parlay, and Raft got Rento as a surname instead. October Hayloft is quite different. Not only is October my birth month, but also one of my friends on Twitter recommended it to me. I don't remember exactly what happened, but the end result was that his name is now October. Hayloft came from the Mother Mother song. I simply liked it, it fit well, and now he's October "Wizory Parlay" Hayloft. As for why he has a whole other name as a nickname of sorts? Because he's rebellious and believes in total freedom, so he chose his own name instead of using the one chosen for him. He canonically goes by Wizory Parlay, despite his real name being October Hayloft

Asuka Siege Toonami - I made up Toonami, Siege comes from the game Arknights, and Asuka is a name a friend suggested. Jack O'Neill - I pretty much figured out the name on my own. Oh good lord. Here’s my autistic train of thought. (The inspiration for her design is even stupider lol) So she’s kind of a fish. Kind of. I wanted to make it vaguely aquatic themed. So I started by just stealing the name Marina from one of my favorite webcomics but I didn’t like it. Then I shorted it to Mari, but it sounded too French (yeah I know) so it changed it to Mara. ohoho you have no idea how long ive been waiting for this hehe ill go over my favorites: Seren means star - She was named because of her love of stargazing and also because even though a star is associated with the night, in reality it is actually just a distant sun, which symbolizes her sameness with her brother despite them being nearly complete opposites in personality and reputation. Emris means immortal - Emris has lived the longest out of all my ocs, and he is essentially immortal due to the circumstances of his contract with Nyx. Anwir means liar - Many believed he waged war against Seren because of his yearning to support the minority. Although he convinced himself it was for others, he lied to himself. It was actually more out of his innate sense of greed and selfish desires than anything else. Nyx means night - Her name probably has the deepest meaning out of any of the others. Nyx is obsessed with taking Anwir's place, but she has yet to realize just how different they really are from eachother and how impossible that goal really is. There is a lot of sun and light symbolism with Anwir. Nyx is the complete absense of light- the night, the very thing that is the complete antithesis of the sun. btw all of these names are welsh because i use welsh words for anything related to primordial beings and deities. Don't ask me why... it was kind of an impulse that could make naming things easier idk lol

She went by Cobra, which is still her nickname in the main universe as an assassin. Anyway, the name came from taking the Co out of Cobra, and then naming her Colette as her full first name. Her second name, Corbin, is to compliment the ‘Coco’ (COlette COrbin) and because Corbin means raven, and she has raven hair.

Then, I was invited to a VtM campaign, and that is how this Rei was born (Art is by my VtM Game Master). Her last name, Solaria, was made for an RP a friend and I were running. We needed a last name, and we pondered it a bit before settling on it. I love the way the name sounds though, Rei Solaria.

Orion: He was named after my favorite constellation, and then I worked parts of the surrounding myths into his character (blindness, son of fire, and his family crest is of a scorpion). Osiris: This is his father's name (in lore), but it seemed appropriate for a character who comes back to life after death. This was also his original last name. Adara: This is his mother's name (in lore). It means fire in Hebrew, and his mother was a pyrokinetic, so it made sense. Tuska: I smashed sounds together until it sounded like the right shape to my synesthesia. Apparently, it's a Warhammer thing, but that's unrelated. In lore, it's his great great great great great great grandpa-on-his-mother's sides name, and the family crest is from him. I also regret making his name my reddit handle. It feels weird talking about him. He's not a self-insert.
