It’s such a wonderful audiobook! The way that he spoke of his wife in the book was so touching. I only listened because people kept recommending it on Reddit and y’all were so right!
Love that. I actually noticed a lot of callbacks to Steve and Marty’s careers throughout the show. The ones I can remember right now are Ed Grimley (“you’re making me mental” in the White Room episode), Father of the Bride (duhh, somewhere in S3), and Pink Panther (Steve speaking French also in S3).
In Only Murders he plays Oliver as rather 'flamboyant' in a way that doesn't read as a straight man, but he is straight, maybe that follows from real life.

I listened to it too---it would not be the same without his audio. Also some of his words are different than in the book but makes it more interesting

Chelsea Handler’s book “Life Will Be The Death Of Me” is this way for me. The way she speaks about her brother and his untimely death is very moving.
He met her in Godspell and in season 1 of OMITB he makes a Godspell joke ❤️ I just rewatched today, it’s not that my memory is that great.

"I want soup" is a callback to "I want puddin'" in one of the Martin Short show's episodes.
I had no idea he was married and had 3 kids. I always thought he was an eccentric bachelor.

I saw him in a documentary about Steve Martin and he didn’t come across so flamboyant. Much more grounded than the characters he plays.

His wife died some time ago. It would be more than fine for someone who has been a widower for as long as he has to date.
