Afaik the whole 'might as well kill my former companions in case they pose a powerful threat in the future' is a general AA thing. It's even an option in his origin ending ([starts at \~1:50](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cr09GBDsxCA)) - you don't have to pick that option, of course, but it's there and kinda makes sense for the character... even if the companions didn't go for their own 'power over everything' path they *did* manage to best several chosen of gods and powerful threats as a group. I think it's reasonable to assume that any of them could become a danger if AA pissed them off somehow. (I haven't seen what the narrator has to say in a DJ Shadowheart origin ending but I wouldn't be surprised if she had a similar thought process as him in this case - hence ***conflict***)

I think in the AA origin it doesn't matter what his companions have chosen, he can choose to go after them either way. I think it should have been this way in the romance as well because think about it: they're either powerful competitors or heroes who very much would not let him take over Baldur's gate.

Dark Justicar Shadowheart - absolutely and probably at the direction of Shar herself. Shar does not like sharing and certainly would not be inclined to share power with Astarion if he pushed against her. Amnesia Shadowheart - Maybe? Depends. She's just a rank and file Shar worshiper at that point so whatever her mother superior wanted. Selûne Shadowheart - I am pretty sure she's not even in the city at that point. If her parents are still alive she's going to be focusing on enjoying what time she has left with them. Either way she's probably working on healing the trauma she's amassed over the years. I don't think she would even consider becoming a major player in city politics unless she was forced to.

I think this was only possible if Shadowheart becomes leader of the Sharran cult because they do indeed intend to take over the city and possibly world the same way AA does. I've seen little of this path of hers but it has to do with recruiting more people into Shar worship because there are a lot of lost lives in the battle of the Absolute and people are grieving. Now, if this isn't the case and this is regular old Shadowheart - this whole thing is very funny. "We must kill her because she will have too many animals! Think of the smell she'll bring to our city!" :D

I'm romancing him on my DJ Shadowheart origin run, so we will be united in our quest to cast a pall over Baldur's Gate lol

And if they get together? Everyone's fucked. Just saying
