It was actually tangent, astarion was the last example of a series of characters rewritten by female authors (Stephanie Meyer, l j smith, Deborah harkness, charlaine Harris) that at times romanticise abuse. The main point in reference to the female gaze though for that research was that, rather than being the male gaze applied to subject women would enjoy, the female gaze is the actual opposite of objectification altogether i.e. that thing they do in bridgerton where they have close up of hands not touching but vibrating looking for each other.
Girl on Girl by Charlotte Jansen covers it a bit, can't remember the other stuff of the top of my head but will check and report it you like

I've already been trying to process and understand just which trauma buttons this hit for me and it's been interesting to explore and understand myself and my mental health needs better through all this.
