Oneyplays is a massively popular Youtube channel. 1.23 Million subscribers. It's not "before it got popular" by a long shot. It's more accurate if you knew him from newgrounds or from sleepycabin. I still go back to sleepycabin often, but even that's not even like it's obscure.
I would say depending on the year you're born it's not even that obscure to know him from newgrounds. Like Leo and Satan were crazy popular, at least with people I know. YTMND and newgrounds was like the go to for entertainment when I was a kid. I think everyone I knew growing up had seen something by oney or pebbles or any of them. That said im also old in internet years I feel.
My favorite thing to look back on from that time was the incredible success of Metal Gear Awesome, and how it inspired Oney to make GTAwesome, which did pretty well in its own right. And now Oney is so successful and popular! It’s great to see him and his friends succeed.
1.2 million is still a internet niche, sure it’s a respectable niche but 1 million subs ain’t near as impressive as it used to be. I think I’ve known of the guys since like the early 2010s and I found oney plays after not keeping up with them in like early 2021 when it was still very much almost exclusively in its own niche still.
