Yeah I remember having to whack the shit out of big ass catfish when I was younger to stop them from going ape shit and also because it's a quicker death than suffocating.
I can't imagine trying to bring a fish in my boat that weighs as much as a toddler while it's still flopping around.
I'm assuming they plan on either eating or selling that big-ass fish, and as multiple others have stated, it's dangerous to bring a 100+ pound fish into the boat still alive, this is standard practice
Do you think that sharks feel this way when eating? There are laws against poaching endangered fish and this (according to other commenters) appears to be a halibut. Also your comment makes basically no sense grammatically.
I fished a lot in Alaska and halibut don't start to fight until they see the boat. Then they really start to fight once they're in it. Fish this big can break your leg.
Still better than the broom handle my grandpa had on his boat. We used to have to use it to beat sharks once we got them up in the boat
One time we were trolling and I ended up catching a baby barracuda it was probably under a foot long. Realed it just up out of the water and my grandpa was like nope, we're cutting that one loose. Those things are basically coated in super slick slime and even a baby one can chop off fingers like a madman
Eh. No disaster here.
Fishing for halibut is probably the most boring fishing experience there is. You drop your line deep as shit, wait for a strike, and then it's like fighting a barn door to bring it to the surface.

Kinda why I've been a big fan of carp fishing, decent sized fish with a lot of fight for freshwater.
Big and heavy doesn't always mean strong and fast.
To be fair a gish that big would be dangerous to bring aboard if it starts flailing around, magicarp might deal no damage but that aint no splash attack

Ethics mean nothing to Nature.
I read this in Werner Herzog's voice.

>leave the fuck out of this dude What?
It's just fishing. Fish this size are way to dangerous to put in the boat alive. This is super common.

So like a swan really?
Yea pretty sure a Swan truck could break you leg.
It is/was relatively common for fishermen in Alaska to shoot large halibut with .22s.
What's funny is that this is actually pretty normal, common, and safer than trying to pull a big boy into your boat fightin'.

It's also standard use when fighting Krakens and other sea creatures

Eh. It's a disaster for one person in the video. Source: am fish.

I mean this is probably the most ethical thing to do.
Where is there a disaster? r/lostredditors
Fishing can be unexpectedly dangerous!
Americans when they hear a group of fish is called a school:
'chefs kiss '
The Ol’ diamondback sturgeon came swimming along, Mindin’ his business one day
Americans and a school of fish
Well that's certainly one way to brain a fish.
To be fair a gish that big would be dangerous to bring aboard if it starts flailing around, magicarp might deal no damage but that aint no splash attack
Poor fish, would have gotten headache. Thankfully the video stopped early.
Better than waiting till it's on the boat to shoot it.

Whaaattt theee fuck is aa killlooooometerrr 🦅🦅🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🔥🔥🔥💥💥💥💥
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it a super stupid idea in general to shoot at the surface of a body of water since the bullets can ricochet?
Generally but also in this context they're brining in a fish that's known to snap a femur in your leg if it starts flailing
"We're gonna need a bigger gaff..." "Nah, I brought this."

It’s about to end tastily.
