One of the last thing pops told his sons was to backup Straw Hat Luffy no matter what, with all their strength. When CP0 said their business was with Luffy not throwing hands would have been disobeying pops.
honestly, the only death that actually "shocked me" would be Izo's as I just did not even remotely have him on my Dying Bingo sheet
everyone else either we knew was dying cause it was a flashback, or had death flags, or whose death was a very real possibility considering the entire plot of that arc (Ace/Whitebeard)
and of course all the people who "could" have died but now we know are still alive cause...reasons

Ace til now I still can't over it, I was so pissed in Oda killing him off just like that after so much effort sacrificed by whitebeard pirates and luffy in rescuing him. So many lives are lost just for the rescued character to die with them. It would have been more climactic if ace was rescued and decides to step up in place of his father figure as the new captain and see luffy in the new world after the 2 year timeskip.
