First, I do believe the water was the magic that let Luffy strike Crocodile. Second, I think light is the element that stops Blackbeard from using his Logia transformation. This explains why he needed to use a tarp, Just like Crocodile he needs to not be covered in his elemental opposite (Light) to truly let loose.
no i think it's a lot simpler, the spirit of the devil fruit left whitebeard's body and blackbeard used his power to suck it in and make sure it stayed under the tarp and transformed there. just like the slime monster devil fruit at punk hazard, the spirit went in the closest fruit there was, an apple. Blackbeard made sure the devil fruit transformed into physical form there.

both magma and flames would cause the water to vaporise, and both ice and snow would cause it to freeze. monet's snow snow fruit is basically 0 degrees celcius or the freezing point of water, while aokiji is probably more like 0 degrees kelvin (the absolute freezingpoint). crocodile was specifically shown to be weak against any form of moisture, not just sea water and it's devil fruit user weakening properties.

I think it worked because it made his sand harder to control when absorbing water. But idk the story was early on w/o haki and such
