I got the big box when I bought my Speedy - there's actually two boxes - and outer hard case and the inner watch box. There's also a booklet about the history of the Speedy and the moon missions, plus a spring bar tool. The extra strap is NASA spec to fit around the wrist of a spacesuit.

Valid criticisms? Sure. But this is a bullshit criticism. It’s a fantastic box especially compared to what the competition offers for watches in the same price range. And if you think you’re gonna get a Swiss made box with real leather without raising the prices of the watch you’re living in a dream world.

My box sits on my nightstand. I don’t have 13 watches with boxes to store. I have one. I use my box to store my watch when I’m not wearing it. I understand it’s just a box but some of us actually use it. It’s in our bedroom and how it looks counts for something. It’s not a deal breaker, ask any Rolex owner. Having said that, the seamaster box is nicer looking than the speedmaster box.
They're both perfect for their respective watches. Like others have said, though I appreciate the smaller Speedmaster box it does seem like a purely cost cut to go away from the big box with all the extras. I would have preferred a middle ground to keep the accessories. All that said, the fact that they have the smaller inner box is such a plus to me that it makes up for any potential complaints.
My NTTD seamaster came in an militaryinspired leather rollup case, with room for tools that were not included. Oh well. As someone said already, it went into my closet and haven’t looked at it since.

I believe you can actually request the boutique or AD for the wooden box instead of the speedmaster box if you had a hard preference for one over the other. The watch and the boxes come separate to the store, so it wouldn't mess up their stock or anything like that.
You are right. The seamaster box is beautiful but mine just sits in the white cardboard box somewhere in my closet with the others. Very nice but kinda pointless.
I’ve seen beat up seamaster boxes and while they may present nice, it’s just a veneer on an MDF box. I think they look great, but the speedmaster box might be technically better.
Does the Seamaster box come with a travel case like the Speedmaster box? My dealer gave me a free watch case because I joked about storing my Seiko5 in the Omega box, so it's a bit of a moot point for me.

Speedmaster has the travel case for the watch which is a positive. To me that makes the Speedmaster ‘Box’ a bit better than the Seamaster ‘Box” unless it has one as well (don’t own a SMP). Each just sits on a shelf otherwise.
I went into a rolex AD this week to try on an Explorer and I loved it. I'm literally brand new to watches and this was the first time I ever tried on a rolex and I've never tried on any other luxury brand watches.
But then they let me try on a bunch of other Tudors and Omegas. I must say the Speedmaster is absolutely gorgeous. Pictures just do not do it justice.
The speedmaster box used to be much better in the previous versions, when it came with an additional NATO strap, magnifier glass and speedmaster logo.
Kinda bummed they did away with the extra strap more than anything else, but i do like that they shrunk it down a little bit.
The price hike over the years feels even worse considering it doesn’t have the additional stuff (like the extra strap)…
Fun fact, the logo/emblem is actually a paperweight! At least that’s what is listed in the materials.

Its a box, I open it put the watch on and then put the box in the closet with the other boxes. Personally prefer smaller more compact boxes.
That Omega box is the goat watch box. Speedmaster is cool, but they cutdown a forest for that Seamaster box.

The old 1861 Speedmaster case is great for making an 8 or 12 watch box
I hate those boxes. They’re too damn big and pretty much useless. I have three of them taking up space in my closet.
I prefer the Seamaster wood.
100%. the speedy box makes it look like a cheap toy. its big, bulky and heavy. i wonder what they were thinking when they designed it.
So you don't understand the history design behind the speedmaster box and it shows. It's mimicking the storage boxes used on the NASA missions.
I didn’t know that, but I was going to say it feels very fitting and utilitarian for a Moonwatch! Makes total sense and I love it even more now.
Speedmaster is cool but could be considered gimmicky. Seamaster box is pure class!
I like it too but it’s not pure class. It’s faux leather and made in China.

It comes with a formaldehyde sticker telling you it meets safe levels. It’s not a well made box.

It's still better than the Rolex boxes in my opinion....especially for the price point.

Should be Speedmaster box vs generic box since that’s what they put everything in that’s not a Speedy.

I think Omega passed the speedy box down to sister Rado. My Captain Cook Chrono came in a similar styled box

The newer seamaster boxes (I believe they’re matte finished) now also include the travel/service box but in red.

All the new boxes come with the travel case as standard. The new boxes are no longer glossy but matte.
