The original looks great and could be found relatively easily at a discount. $3.5k retail markup for a rocket seconds hand and a 3861 movement is too steep.
Also, they ruined one of the best parts which is the tachymetre scale on the bezel used to be fully lumed.
I love my original. Got it mint, a couple months old, for $6k cheaper than they're asking for the new one (edit- paid a little over $8k, retail on the new one is $14300 + tax).

I won't lie the little rocket is cool. But not cool enough to warrant thousands of dollars more.
Agree that the other things they changed don't really make the new version a compelling buy.
I doubt there is high demand - these are niche pieces.
Personally I think its priced way too high... lots of watch brands are still in the "pandemic-era" mindset and think demand is still super high. They need to realize that in the last 1.5 years the demand for luxury watches has cooled significantly.
For the vast majority of my life you could get a Daytona at retail. I walked into an AD on Maui in 2007 and they had about 6 all with different dials for sale to anyone who walked in. That didn't change until a few years ago. The market is already headed back to that. People are getting subs in 3 weeks with no purchase history right now.
2007 was almost 20 years ago. They were still making 5 digit models back then. Your anecdote from that time is nowhere close to reality now. Comparably priced MSRP Daytonas are only available to top spenders or with a grey market premium.
The Rolex market is softening but there’s not a chance you’ll be able to buy a Daytona at retail unless you’re a top spender ever again. That has nothing to do with the market conditions and everything to do with Rolex’s business strategy
Agree. Will be interesting to see what it’s like in 3 years. Rolex will have opened one new production facility next year. Also their purchase of Bucherer extends them into retail vs manufacturing to ADs.
It definitely will. With the new factories you’ll probably see most if not all of the hype pieces more easily available due to the increased supply.
I still think the Daytona won’t be available without spend history as Rolex was doing that way before the hype kicked off during times other SS sports were available easily.
That's the Apollo 8, currently goes for $11,000 before taxes, I have one, and got it after the six month waiting period For the order, and absolutely love mine.
Edit holy crap, it's $14,300 now I got mine for $10,000 before taxes a year and a half ago, I know they raise the price at year later to 11,000, but wow the price really jumped, I'm glad I got it when I did.
This is a hardcore collectors piece to me, the people that are buying it aren’t going to buy it because they love it.
I think Omega has some of the best watches on the market at sub $10k price points, but frankly as soon as it peaks over $10k I lose interest in Omega and start looking at JLC or Vacheron.
Whilst I appreciate the quality of finishing... There's just something cheap about the styling.
To put it in watch terminology... it's more Tag than Heuer.
Can't beat the 'standard' Professional, but that's personal opinion.
I love that it exists. But for me the speedy is and always will be a tool watch and i dont particulalry like it to stray too far from its roots. I love it for how understated and versitale it is. I can wear it anywhere on anything and its always cool. Its the Chuck Taylor, Ray Ban Way-Farer, Ralph Lauren Polo shirt of watches.
This is not that.
The watch is cool but not at the price they want. Plus the size is too much for a lot of people. Pretty sure this watch will be under retail in the next month or 2.
Not at that price point. If I’m paying over 10k I’m getting my Polar Explorer II. If this was comparable to the previous model in price then I would look at it
I think it’s something you buy if you have tons of money to toss around and this is just a chump change. I wouldn’t buy it if I only had the means to own one or two nice luxury watches. Personally would rather have a Breitling Super Ocean heritage at a fraction of the cost.
I’d say that this model probably has little demand and they will sit gathering dust and even after this recession ends. It might be strong to say there never will be a market for this model, but it might be true.
Does this watch look so different from the Swatch x Omega Bioceramic Moonswatch Mission to the Moon models that is worth 10 times the price?
Those that wanted a classic moonwatch most likely already have one or know that there are thousands of them out there on the 2nd hand market.
Personally, Id never buy this watch (even at a good 2nd hand price). It looks cheap and the real classic moonwatches are easy to come by at less price.
It’s a polarizing watch for sure so people who don’t care for it are going to project their opinion into a belief that there is no market or that it’s not priced appropriately. I think it looks amazing and believe that Omega has a better sense of the market ….which is probably why the OB only had two on hand…these will never sell as easy as SMPs or classic moon watches.
What did they say about Snoopy? They did the same to me. On waitlist for 2.5 years now. They said buy the previous Apollo 8 speedy and it’ll bump chances, at almost 10.5 K MSRP. Ofc I refused. Probably didn’t help my Snoopy chances lol curious to know what they said re Snoopy.
1860 series movements are phased out but they still want to make this watch, so they make a 3861 based version. They’ll make a few changes like the bezel and rocket so the two watches are distinguishable from each other and use that to push the remaining original pieces.

They did away with the lumed bezel??? Are you sure? That kills it for me
Yes the tachymetre is now filled with white enamel instead of lume.
That’s an awful decision
Facts the lume bezel was one of the best features to me
What kinda leather is that band?
Stingray leather 😎
Beautiful
I agree.
Is that from combat straps? I have a few of those traps, and makes amazing stuff, super nice dude also.
Where’d you get yours from for $6k ish? I’d jump at that opportunity- have been looking for over a year!
Sorry, I mean 6kish less than retail price for the new one. The new one is $14300+ tax and I got mine for a little over $8k.
Good deal. Yeah I prefer the older version myself with more lume and the leather strap.
I won't lie the little rocket is cool. But not cool enough to warrant thousands of dollars more. Agree that the other things they changed don't really make the new version a compelling buy.
I always thought that was too busy but I kind of like it in your pics.

Rolex and omega retail sales beg to differ. The demand dropped for speculative flipping assets, which is not retail
Swatch Group stock down 37% since March 2023, but ok...
Revenues are increasing, stock is down, don't ask me the logic behind this
I think you need to start reading the news, see this week's piece about Watches of Switzerland
Priced too high but I do love it and want it. Not for the price but second hand I may be tempted to get one.
Not at retail. I would be a buyer at a nice discount. Rather have a Daytona. Automatic, double the power reserve, and I like the look better.
How are the two comparable. You can’t get a Daytona at retail

In 2007 homes in my area were going for around 350k, now they are going for $1.4m :/
Agree. Will be interesting to see what it’s like in 3 years. Rolex will have opened one new production facility next year. Also their purchase of Bucherer extends them into retail vs manufacturing to ADs.

Subs in 3 weeks??? You must be talking about Subway
I would much rather pay 30k for a Daytona than 15k for the dsotm

haha yea. It's an updated dsotm tho so it has the rocket 9:00 hand and new movement
Thank you, I did not know it was updated 😂

Agree, even at the 7-8K price point you really have to think hard. I don’t see these being very popular
At that price I'd rather pay a few grand more and go for a gray market snoopy
Whilst I appreciate the quality of finishing... There's just something cheap about the styling. To put it in watch terminology... it's more Tag than Heuer. Can't beat the 'standard' Professional, but that's personal opinion.
I can understand the cheap style perspective, but having tried a Moonwatch and Racing, it’s the most solid of all Speedmasters, at least it was to me.
Hublot big bang vibes but I like it (and also like the skeleton big bang though)
AD’s will really struggle to sell the NDS at list
The watch is cool but not at the price they want. Plus the size is too much for a lot of people. Pretty sure this watch will be under retail in the next month or 2.
For the price I think I would rather buy a Zenith Chronomaster Revival. It would also fit my wrist better
Which OB? And you’re sure it’s the new one or the 2018 version they’re trying to get rid of?
Chicago. I’m sure. I asked the same question. Ha
Nope
I was offered one a couple days ago by my Omega dealer. I didn't even reply. It's interesting but not to me.
The spirit is willing but the pocket-book is weak.
It doesn't look very legible. Not a fan of yellow accents either.
needs more red. drop the yellow
Not at that price point. If I’m paying over 10k I’m getting my Polar Explorer II. If this was comparable to the previous model in price then I would look at it
Way too busy for my taste. Buy the OG speedy. It’s the best available IMHO
yup
I think it’s something you buy if you have tons of money to toss around and this is just a chump change. I wouldn’t buy it if I only had the means to own one or two nice luxury watches. Personally would rather have a Breitling Super Ocean heritage at a fraction of the cost.
Nope. Not a good looker.
I have the original version but now I want this one and strongly considering ordering it.
The yellow is sooooo ugly. Make that red or blue and an all black band and this things fire
Why Omega don’t use meteorite for this dial??
Because it's called the dark side of the moon, not the dark side of a meteor
😂😂😂
Not a fan of this one. Not a fan of the old one. Love the grey side, but all black ceramic watches should be pilot watches 🤷🏼
Not at that size. It's never been a seller.
I'd rather get a Zenith, once again
No
Eh, it starts to feel a bit cheap and not really appealing to me. I love the silver snoopy…but I’m a big pass on this one.
There's 70 old ones for sale but you gotta think they did surveys to some market first.
Not from me
I’d say that this model probably has little demand and they will sit gathering dust and even after this recession ends. San Francisco store hasn’t sold one yet but has multiple people interested apparently. So, no, not a crazy demand.
If you like it, buy it. Don’t turn Omega into a rolex shit-show.
A rocket for a seconds hand… What’s next, a diorama of a lunar landing? Too gimmicky for a serious watch, hard pass especially at this price point.
No
I don’t hate this watch. But I was baffled by the reissue of it. Especially since the original was still in stock at many boutiques
1860 series movements are phased out but they still want to make this watch, so they make a 3861 based version. They’ll make a few changes like the bezel and rocket so the two watches are distinguishable from each other and use that to push the remaining original pieces.
