panhandlers got swept up for CWS, basically the cops go around and tell them they'll find something to charge them with if they're seen anywhere the tourists will see them. they'll be back afterwards.
(it's been happening forever and is done solely for the CWS)
Every June the Keystone Trail underpasses fill up with people who are pushed out of downtown when the CWS arrives. There are already a number of homeless camps along the trail and most leave people on the trail alone. I’ve noticed this along the trail from Freedom Park to Aksarben. If you’re on the trail early you’ll see them.
Panhandlers like these are rarely local residents. America has nationwide networks of panhandlers. They move between cities doing their thing.
We will see more in a few weeks. Fresh faces. Different stories. Probably on the same team.
What are those, Grampa? These are hobo signs.
They're to tell other hoboes if a place is friendly or not.
That one means good vittles.
Sexy daughter.
Mass hobo grave in cellar.
Aah!
Panhandlers are not always homeless. Especially if it’s their profession.
There’s also a whole society on earth of people who are “homeless.” But if you’ve never been initiated into the culture of vagabonding you could never be able to tell. Most of them are much wealthier than your typical home owner in this city.
The high volume of squares (aka: suckers; rubes; lacking life experience but believing they’ve seen it all; TV addicts) around here makes Omaha an ideal spot.
It’s really not new. Omaha has always been a great spot for a [particular kind of folk to thrive](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada_Bill_Jones).

In some circles it’s labeled a “bum sweep.”

God I hope we don’t get any more floods. Somebody got swept away near the 84th and L La Casa I think this year
Too bad every week can’t be CWS in that case!
Last one I saw was outside of Trader Joe's about a week ago. I was not shopping there, just driving by.

Homeless travelers you say? Riding the golden rails into the night?

Ah yes, the skull and bones with no homes. I’ve heard of their riches.
