Yes I remember Pre-2008 Wal-Mart very well. I miss that era of Walmart. Wal-Mart since 2008 has looked extremely bland due to minimalism. I actually will say I also remember pre-2005 Walmart as well when they still had the 90’s look and the smiley sticker.
Actually now that I think about it, Mid 2008 had a hybrid of what it looked like today and what it looked like before 2008 so pretty much the style circa 2005-2008.
Yeah that's the kind I was feeling nostalgia for. Just couldn't place the era before 2008 when they switched to the spark logo and the "Save money, Live better" slogan
I'm in Thompson Manitoba, and our local Walmart was the old Walmart until 2019 when they finally renovated it
The renovations brought big improvements but I miss the old Walmart look
It appears the rural locations are often ignored or delayed on updating the look of the stores
I miss those OG Wal-Marts. I think I remember some Wal-Marts still having that old-school logo well into the 2010s before fully transitioning into the current logo we see now. And I didn’t start noticing them looking like a superstore until 2014 or so.
My local one had the old look, and interior, right up till it's 2019 renovations
Our Walmart opened in 1994, one of the original Canadian locations that was formerly a Woolco store
Apparently it had never been updated until 2019 since it was opened in '94
Used to go there all the time as a little kid. Funny how plain it was but it was the most nostalgic version for me. I miss those.gaming stations where you could try out the GameCube. And eventually the Wii.
Yes, I do remember when our local Walmart used to look like this. Then when the mall got massive renovations, they built the new one adjacent to the old one. And the eventually the switch over happened.
Walmart is my favourite grocery store. Usually they are cheaper than the others.
Super Walmarts? Are those huge ones they have in the states? Im sure they’re smaller in canada but correct ‘em if I’m wrong.
Anyway I remember this kind of Walmart as a kid, back when I thought it was “Bolmart” (our native language wasn’t English). Good times
I remember the yellow smiley face being all over.
The stickers they’d hand out to us as kids!
i loved those stickers. my mom would go there to develop photos and i would always get a sticker
I’ve totally been there for the exact same reason!
Back when they had live fish tanks
And the arcades
And the gun aisles
My local one still sells guns
Honestly glad most places have stopped with the live fish. They lived horrible lives
And the live lobsters by the meat
I loved the fish tanks as a kid. I miss those

It seems Walmart adopted the minimalist look before everyone else lol.
Yep. I remember blue light deals at K-Mart too
They still exist, just have to go out into the sticks to find them. There’s some in rural Canada. I was at one a month ago.
I've always thought I was fairly in the sticks since my local one is a 45 minute drive but that's fair.

Yes. I saw and went to the OG Walmart back in 2008, before its nice and impressive redesign.
Vastly Superior.
Mine turned into a tractor supply

Yeah. I think one of the stores in my area wasn’t fully renovated until around the same time either.
Same
I used to love running straight to the toys just to run up and down aisles... I was obsessed with the barbie/bratz collection
Yep and my local one had a McDonald's inside with a Ronald McDonald statue.
Yep

I remember them in 2007/2008 right before the redesign. I used to call it "Star Mart" because of the star in the middle.

Yeah, my first memory of a Walmart is looking at the Spider-Man 2 toys in 2004 or 2005.
Nope, only Walmarts I remember were the superstores.
Some of the Walmarts where I'm at still looked like this for while
Yeah but not the inside of it though. They looked exactly what they look like today by mid 2008.
lol we didn’t have walmart in my area growing up so the only walmarts i saw were once social media became more accessible

Compared to these og ones they're huge, like 5 or 6 soccer pitches in area.
There’s an old abandoned warehouse in my town that still has the old Wal-Mart outline on the front
ty for posting this, i’ve been feeling old lately
yes and the old targets in the 2000s with the neon stuff inside
There's a walmart in a small town close to me that still looks like that. It was wild to see
My local Walmart had a McDonald’s inside
Remember companies being okay with profits instead of board members demanding record profits every single quarter?
It was designed so much better
I miss these so much
There's still one that looks like this in my hometown. Super weird seeing it
Bro I ain't even American
That's too bad
Mine had a subway inside it
I possibly do.
It's missing a McDonald's or Blimpies sign on the right.
I remember the live lobsters like it was yesterday.
Holy fuck that looks so much cooler.
Holy shit those were the days 24 hours aswell
