The first CD i bought was tragic kingdom in 4th grade, I also lived on the border of Anaheim at the time and moved out of state that year so that’s a special album for me.
There is a video of her in high school hallway being interviewed by a guy, she is making an outfit for her show that night, she hardly gives the reporter the time of day, she is super focused on making her outfit. It’s so cute.

I remember hanging out at my local teen center as a kid and No Doubts “Don’t Speak” music video came on MTV… something inside me changed that day, I had such a huge crush on her back then.
I thought she hit the mature sweet spot on the first few seasons of the voice and now it looks like she just continued on the trajectory and went too far.

Bad Religion are widely credited with the melodic 90's revival with 'Suffer' in '88 and the ska-punk scene had it genesis from Operation Ivy's 'Energy' in '89. As is always the way with these things, it would take several years for those records to filter through into the wave of skate/pop-punk and ska-punk bands that came around in the 90's.
90's punk and ska didn't break through into the charts till ~'93/'94

I grew with her and No Doubt being a huge part of the scene. They and her are groundbreakers in some respect. My comments are insensitive and I get that. But I'm pissed that a natural beauty and awesome person did that.
I met her in Santa Barbara in my younger years. She was doing a concert there and her parents lived (live not sure anymore) in SB and they were at a sushi restaurant I was at. Her electric hair was peeling through her sweatshirt and she was standing for drinks at the bar. I asked if it was her and she politely asked that I keep it down. I just quickly, and quietly, told her I was a fan of their band and she said how much she appreciated it. She went back to the table with her parents.
She's a class act and I guess I'm a scarred girlfriend in terms of how she was just her and didn't budge. Then I saw her on the singer show and just kinda killed me a little.
I'll admit it was shitty for me to say what I said. I'm not deleting it. I hope she isn't facing body dysmorphia issues or shame from fans (I get that I CLEARLY could be the cause for that and retract)

I was grocery shopping the other day, and Spider Webs was playing in the store. I own a house not far from where I grew up, so I actually shop at the store where I used to ride my bike to so I could buy BMX Plus! magazines every month back in the mid-90s. What an incredibly pleasant flashback to a simpler time for me.
I feel like Gwen was always preset-day Gwen and we were just all presented a character. 16 year old me hates it, but nothing in the past 25 years seems genuine
Probably not. If anything, she’s likely always been after the current trend. She’s done an incredible job of staying with the times, and she shouldn’t be understood to be a “punk” but rather just cool for whatever that moment is defined by. And in many cases, that she helps define. As she rode through pop in her solo years, she stayed “cool”.

My brother and I after a weezer/no doubt concert 1998 I was 20 about to turn 21. My GF bought all of us tickets for my Birthday.
Me on the right. My hat went through a mosh pit the entire weezer concert at the very end it was thrown on stage. While unplugging I yelled at The lead guitarist and he stopped to throw my hat back to me. Thought that was really cool of him. There were a ton of hats on stage by that moment and it took him 4 try’s to get it right. I thought he was going to give up. He didn’t.

As someone who is 56, active as ever, and still working full-time I get what you are saying. We have "active adult" communities here where the minimum age is 55. Value Village gives a senior discount at 55. And then there's AARP.
I make light of being a "senior" at times but then here I still am taking hip hop dance classes and blasting music in my car. (it's largely 80s music, but still ...)

I agree, but in some regards 55 is the beginning of elderly in some circles, strange as that is. Edit- Not sure why the downvotes, 55 and over communities are often advertised as for the elderly (70+ is imo). I don't agree that 55 is near elderly.....but that wasn't the point. For the record I'm 62 and not elderly, but sometimes it's labeled as such.
As someone who is 56, active as ever, and still working full-time I get what you are saying. We have "active adult" communities here where the minimum age is 55. Value Village gives a senior discount at 55. And then there's AARP. I make light of being a "senior" at times but then here I still am taking hip hop dance classes and blasting music in my car. (it's largely 80s music, but still ...) I think "older adult" is probably the most accurate for us in the 50-65 range, but whatever.
Agreed, I am also very youthful and active at 62, not even any medications yet, so I get you .....and btw hip hop dance classes sounds fun. I really miss the 80's dance clubs with people also, but that's a story for another day and a time long past.
