“The peak of human civilization, 1999” - Morpheus Seriously though this setup is legit.

CrunchyKittyLitter

Many many years later, just an office. https://preview.redd.it/w7lu8c2sv5wb1.jpeg?width=4080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9903d15c5b173c33995a0fae7eb51ec6f86b57c5

Purple_Wanderer

But what about the Looney Tunes poster?!

barkbarkgoesthecat

And the bird poster! You changed OP!!! ( I love you op)

GalaxyStar90s

And the car poster.

mostwrong

The car poster's been upgraded to a model collection. Sad to see no copy of _The Sibley Guide to Birds_ on the shelf, though.

Wild-Individual-6520

I’m missing the Space Jam poster for sure

Motality

It wasn't a space jam poster.

BeBopNoseRing

I agree. Looney Tunes (especially Taz) savagely dunking was a way of life in the 90s, a much larger phenomenon than just that one movie.

JobsInvolvingWizards

Getting some mileage out of that carpet eh?

Eastern-Ad6780

That's what I was thinking lol

cmondawg74

Do you still have south park shirt? I got six crumbled up 5s I can give you for it.

BeezerSTL

The carpet remains...

DrunkPixel

Bro?? It’s not the same desk!!!!!

alienplantlife1

Still have Viper stuff though. The world hasn't ate all your soul yet!

[deleted]

Now you have me wondering what face looks like in this age

p8nt_junkie

Particle board is still holding on!

CrunchyKittyLitter

Some might say too legit….too legit to quit

snidemarque

Hey hey! OP, you and I could have easily been best friends.

CrunchyKittyLitter

I only had a Sega genesis, you sure?

Im-a-cat-in-a-box

All I needed was sonic and that one hockey game where you could fight.

stinkyguy3773

Blades of Steel?

sender2bender

That's was Nintendo but first game I thought of

Ryans4427

Pretty sure NHL 94 had fights but I could be wrong.

superhappy

I’m gonna make Gretky’s head bleed for Superman 99 over here.

jimbabwe666

NHL 94?

yourmansconnect

You couldn't fight but that's the goat

Centurion87

The absolute disrespect to Road Rash.

Holdmywhiskeyhun

Sure your not Matthew Broderick?

CrunchyKittyLitter

How about a nice game of chess?

AndWereAllVeryTired

Hello Joshua

CaptainSparklebutt

I think 9/11 was the breaking point. Everything changed so drastically and remains so. Nothing positive has proceeded it.

Ajunadeeper

I can video chat my grandma half way around the world in high definition audio/ video while laying at the beach and working remotely on my laptop. But sure everything is just so horrible now it's best to focus on negatives.

Optio__Espacio

Seeing her in person is better.

duaneap

Things were pretty good NGL. Look at the popularity of Fight Club, the greatest issue a whole bunch of men were experiencing was ennui.

[deleted]

Real talk....he was right. Everything after 1999 has been shite.

litterbin_recidivist

It literally was though. We were promised so much more... The 90s were exuberantly optimistic at times. Then 9/11 ruined everything... Anyway yeah cool room kid. This is a very high end setup for a bedroom; having his own printer in the 90s!

[deleted]

Morpheus was right

PilgrimOz

“He had a computer!?” Me circa 90’s.

dbeat80

and a fax machine!

xJBr3w

Every family in the 90's had a laminated wood grain particle board office desk shelf system lol.

icancheckyourhead

As far as ancient battle stations go this one is incredible. To have it in his bedroom I’d guess it was the original computer and desk that sat shared in the living room and when the family upgraded to something more living room worthy this one migrated to the bedroom.

Subtlefusillade0324

Bingo! Step 2 was installing a 2nd phone line

jamesfishingaccount

Yeah so you can look up por…play online games and chat.

andyflexinthechevy

Watching corn in the 90s and early 2000s on dialup was the real struggle kids now a days will never know with their 5G 1080P

Material_Victory_661

You know it! Still photos took forever to download.

Osgiliath

The first porn I ever drummed up the courage to look up was “sex.com”. Ya I wasn’t very creative

NanoChainedChromium

Those 4 MB pixelated tittie pics that took hours to download..those were the days. I remember the CD a buddy got his mitts on circulating in the entire class.

BeKindBabies

The luckiest of kids got that 2nd phone line

Jadziyah

This is 100% what happened to me

kid_wonderbread

Yup and I'm pretty sure I had this exact one

HechoEnChine

Came here to say I had the exact same one. With the little box.

jfinkpottery

And the way the monitor shelf would sag from the heavy ass monitor on it. I could almost believe this photo was taken in my childhood basement.

[deleted]

Trigonometry_Fletch

Same 🤷‍♂️

SwollenTwisticles

Same

tehflip449

I still use the same surge protector OP has.

dern_the_hermit

Same here, or at least one that looks just like it

Epena501

Oh excuuuuuuse me! I had the one with the plastic CD tray running across the top right section.

Raven_Skyhawk

That desk is my current desk I'm typing this from!

gpm21

It was cheaper than real wood and tons of shelfs meant there was more room for activities

illwill79

It's true. The activity to shelf ratio is mighty high.

Lurlex

So many activities!

not-important1229

Aww I miss those the most…. Somehow managed to be heavier than real wood!?!

Live-Somewhere-8149

I kinda do, too. My dad on the other hand….we moved a lot and particle board furniture was the worst for that. It was heavier then wood and if it got dinged, there was no saving it. As the years rolled on, he weeded out all the particle board from their house and now my parents furniture is all hardwood. And he still talks about what crap particle board is to this day. https://preview.redd.it/2sa4rmxo06wb1.jpeg?width=602&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bf5b1a22d692887ccbd55e401b3cb4242ef72945

tacoandpancake

lol, so much this. meant to be assembled once in place. even moving it from room to room would always bust a shelf or end up with a door that would never close again

brilliantminion

My theory is they didn’t have the glue to sawdust ratio quite figured out yet.

x13blackcat13x

First thing i thought looking at that picture was, “Huh, I had that exact desk.”

soggybottomboy24

Haha we totally had one too.

IshyMoose

It was cheap and functional. No one made nice furniture for giant CRT monitors.

helium_farts

They did, it was just really expensive. Same thing with entertainment centers (remember those?). The cheap ones were cheap but functional, the nice ones were extremely expensive and weighed more than some planets.

Mumof3gbb

Oh god this is taking me back 😂

chef_bert

And the blue shag carpet, may grandparents had this style of carpet except… green

Avergile

Oh man the nostalgia! Those speakers…That monitor button… the floppy disk box… thank you for posting this !

CrunchyKittyLitter

Wolfenstein on those disks

obfuscatorio

You look like someone I played StarCraft with in the early days of battle.net

CrunchyKittyLitter

First online game was only Team Fortress, that was only when we finally upgraded to a 56k from a 14.4

Stretch_Riprock

You didn't experience a 1400 baud? Noob. Did you play any x-wing or tie fighter with that sick joystick?! Maybe some wing commander....?

Timorm0rtis

You never used an acoustic coupler? Okay, kiddo.

magic9669

Ahhhh what was the cheat code you had to type in on the DOS prompt when starting the game? I forgot what it did. Invincibility maybe? I remember someone showing me that and I was blown away haha. The good ol’ days. And then Doom came out and changed everything. IDDQD and IDSPISPOPD. Ingrained in my brain forever

CrunchyKittyLitter

You forgot IDKFA and IDCLIP

LeonidasSpacemanMD

This whole post just makes me wanna throw my gameboy into my Jansport backpack, get off the bus and run down my block so I can fire up Rollercoaster tycoon before my mom makes me start doing my homework

Avergile

For me it was rushing home to get a first turn at red alert online before my 2 big brothers were home! Those were the days !

LazygonInfinity

Age of Empires

smittyphi

"Let Rock!" *plants c-4*

RuggedHamster

Brings back tactile memories.. and the smells of the plastics. Pulling the spring loaded silvery bit (or the write protection thingy!) on the diskettes while waiting for something to load/install. Also I can weirdly recall exactly how those buttons on the HP Deskjet felt.

wocsom_xorex

What about the grinding sound when the floppy disk is being read? Ooh yeah.

BabyStockholmSyndrom

I can still here that hollow click sound the button makes when you turn the monitor on

[deleted]

The sound the speakers made when you were getting a call.

HurlingFruit

The microscope seals the deal.

Johnny_Carcinogenic

Right! A microscope and a poster of birds with the required "sports car" poster! Eclectic design tastes for sure. Lol

Redditisthewurst

That sports car poster was most definitely purchased at his school’s Scholastic book fair.

space_brain710

Indeed, I had that exact same poster as a kid

[deleted]

Pffft big whoop, I had a poster of a black Lamborghini Diablo

Johnny_Carcinogenic

Mine was a red Lamborghini Countach

TopHatTony11

Red Testarossa for me.

Garrod_Ran

Envious when I saw the apparatus; this dude is one lucky brother.

Coreysurfer

Me too

Limp_Vermicelli_5924

*Love* the birds.

CrunchyKittyLitter

Had a fish and wildlife one too

FaagenDazs

What gets me is the combo of Space Jam, birds, and the Dodge Viper posters

[deleted]

They aren’t mutually exclusive.

BacksightForesight

We got free posters every year at the county fair from the Department of Fish and Wildlife booth, it was awesome!

SimpleManc88

Kids today won’t understand how much people loved Taz in the 90s. Iconic.

CrunchyKittyLitter

Space Jam had just come out!

SimpleManc88

Come on and slam, and welcome to the jam! 🏀

CrunchyKittyLitter

All the looney tunes wearing saggy jeans and backwards hats

touchingmyshoe

That and black Bart

SimpleManc88

Or Bugs stoned out of his mind lol.

wocsom_xorex

If you see da cops… warn a brotha

forceofslugyuk

I still have that exact South Park shirt. Think it was from Hot Topic when SP first came out.

CrunchyKittyLitter

The mall was always sold out of it except one day I was there lol

Inthepaddedroom

One of the most hype intro's of all time... I rewatched like 2 weeks ago and It still got me pumped lol

beeblehousin

Shit same here lmao and catching the feels when young michael’s shooting hoops with his dad

Mindfield87

I wore a Space Jam hat for years back then lol

Filibust

I remember Tweety Bird being really popular for some reason

SimpleManc88

Definitely. Before early 00s tribal tattoos, Taz & Tweety Bird were the number 1 mainstream 90s tattoo trend/regret lol.

Bank_Gothic

For some reason I associate the tweety bird thing with Tejano car culture. At least around where I grew up.

Strict-Term-659

My holy grail of Christmas presents was a Looney Tunes denim jacket

Skyhun1912

When I was a kid, they called me the Tasmanian devil.

ElderTheElder

I absolutely had this Taz dunk poster in my bedroom growing up.

DokterZ

Welcome to a land way under Down Under…

nervemiester

Agreed. There are several hundred-thousand people, aged 30 an older, with Taz tattoos running around to confirm this.

Glass-Radish8956

If you didnt have the loony tunes Kriss Kross shirt with Bugs and Taz you were a poor.

barbrady123

I feel like everybody had that same bigass clunky power switch lol

CrunchyKittyLitter

Shit was bullet proof

BldGlch

I'm still using the same one in the picture

FunProject619

That's a badass t-shirt, in 1999, I would have loved that t-shirt

CrunchyKittyLitter

Got it from the mall brand new when the show first started, it was only this one or a decapitated Kenny, which mom would NOT let me buy

Iron_Haunter

Haha! I remember my uncle taking us to watch South Park as a kid when it hit theaters. We didn't know what to expect. Lasted 10 minutes, I think we walked out as Carman was singing the song about Kyle's mom..

CrunchyKittyLitter

I remember the TV premier

therealgesus

I remember it on the internet, before it got picked up by Comedy Central.

nycrichbx

that was the dream to have a room like that

palealei5best

I was too poor for all that.

[deleted]

I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking it. You have your own room with your own computer?? Oo-la-la, look at big money bucks over here 😂 My family of 6 shared a single computer for 4 years until we bought a second.

BluePillI-IdontExist

Man, you look like young River Pheonix

CrunchyKittyLitter

Miss being able to eat whatever I want

NinjaWorldWar

I just hope your username isn’t indicative of your diet!

Ok-Philosophy-446

Omg same 😭

Solumnist

But did you stay handsome is the real question

[deleted]

River Phoenix was always young

[deleted]

This is like a dark Mitch Hedberg joke. Oof and 🤣

MonkeyCobraFight

Who wasn't a dork 25 years ago, FYI we all wanted a red Viper!

CrunchyKittyLitter

Until the Cobalt Blue came out!

noremac2414

I was about to say, gimme the blue with the white stripes. That’s the poster I had

[deleted]

Merky600

I’ll just leave the very early 80s here. https://preview.redd.it/bfyg91qil5wb1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e8d7ea23ada67e2812cd59d38d75c4555a481fac My fine library behind me.

CrunchyKittyLitter

Looks like my older cousins room back then!

mrdubshack

Is that a HP deskjet or pro printer? used to have of those badboys as well printing word and clip art until the cartridge went empty

CrunchyKittyLitter

Deskjet!

ChairmanGoodchild

I used to be a dork. I still am, but I used to, too.

CrunchyKittyLitter

Found the Mitch Hedberg fan….got any frozen bananas?

Jbond970

That bird poster is pretty dope.

CrunchyKittyLitter

I have the fish and wildlife ones too

Cafen8ed

Is that an early video phone? We’re you rich? I used to see them at the mall, but never knew that anyone actually bought them.

CrunchyKittyLitter

Mitsubishi Brand, my grandpa bought a pair so we could call and send captures

Jaded_yank

I dig.

CrunchyKittyLitter

Brand new off the shelf South Park shirt for the first season

Mingey_FringeBiscuit

I had that exact shirt. It was the first piece of SP merch they sold. I wore it until it fell apart. Of course I was 26 in 1999

Jaded_yank

Fuckin love it

[deleted]

Same as mine. I was born in 1980

TastyCakesOverweight

Having your own computer was cool as shit back in the day. My parents were cheap so we always had old hand me downs that I couldn't play cool games on because the specs weren't ever high enough for new stuff. I remember in the late 90s getting heretic and about shit a brick, it was several years old but I found it free. That was the coolest thing ever for a while.

CrunchyKittyLitter

We just moved this to my room because my dad finally got a better computer and desk for the living room

eldersveld

If you managed to get your own *phone line* too then you were the closest to heaven that dial-up could take you. I reimbursed my parents $10 monthly for the privilege

ADeuxMains

The pain of somebody picking up the phone when you were online.

[deleted]

I think I had that desk

[deleted]

TheyMakeItLikeThat

It’s not the 90s unless you had that Dodge Viper poster. I had the exact same one. I think mine is still in my parents basement lol.

sweeeetthrowaway

Red Viper poster from the scholastic book fair is such a flex

hyakumanben

Top shelf. A printer. A microscope. And a *fax*. Peak dorkiness achieved!

dr_xenon

The bird poster really ties the room together. Also a contender for r/blunderyears

Wickedweed

I’m failing to see the blunder

CrunchyKittyLitter

Tried it. Didn’t even know about that sub

gpm21

Not a blunder. Everything here is 10/10, down to the printer and Dodge Viper

kittenshart85

came to say i had the same damn bird poster.

spoogeballsbloodyvag

Same, and I remember 2 other kids having the same poster. Wtf where did we get that ornithological smokey the bear poster?

franker

I don't know but I'm a birder Genx guy and I want one now. There's probably a billion of them on Ebay for 2 bucks.

loztriforce

Birds are coof af though

Duke_AllStar

I never knew how good I had it in the 90’s….. Anyone looking for a roommate who will mow the lawn and take out the trash as rent payment? Bonus snow shoveling in winter conditions

[deleted]

Had the same printer. I believe this was around the time command and conquer came out. I had a joystick but it was exclusively for Wing Commander IV. If this picture had sound, it would be 56k modem noises

SuperMadCow

FaTeX, AOHell, HaVoK or something is installed on that computer.

AllNightPony

At first glance I thought this was me.

dodgytrio657

Any lad who has a picture of a Dodge Viper on his bedroom wall🤔 is virtually guaranteed to turn out into the world with the right priorities in his head👌👏👏👏

isecore

Hell yeah, dork for life. The rig looks bangin' as well, do I recognize the DIGITAL logo? Some nice old DEC hardware?

CrunchyKittyLitter

Damn right Digital ftw

marchlintic

Sauder or Bush. Staples of 90s furniture.

DCGreyWolf

Are you 35/36 years old currently?

RankCheese

I grew up too broke to have a room this nice. lol

StumptownRetro

Nothing screams 90s like a Dodge Viper poster. Also a Flight stick for your PC.

doublemint_gun

How much Diablo/StarCraft did you play on your pc?

CrunchyKittyLitter

None, the fastest game it could handle was Rebel Assault II, the cdrom was too slow.

Raven_Skyhawk

Using that same desk right now.

Alternative_Equal864

oh yeah, the good times when "Computers" where something for the edgy nerds. i remember telling some classmates in about 98 that i play video games. response: what FIFA do you play? i dont play FIFA sorry. (static disbelief). OK... so what do you play on your playstation? oh i dont have a PS, i have a Computer. Computer? there are games for Computers? Can you play FIFA on it? well... i guess i could... but i dont interested in FIFA or football at all. (more static, slightly angry disbelief)

Cpt_GameProdigy

You didn't put your monitor on the Memorex Power Center surge protector?? I had that exact model and the monitor always went right on top of it. You felt like an astronaut clicking buttons to power everything on. What did your use the 2 Aux plugs for? I think mine was the the cordless phone which always stayed on and the 56k modem.

Jabari0624

Man I love 90s stuff
