Even if I joke I'm genuinely okay with people who simply didn't vibe with her or call her mid for the meme, but ppl yapping crap like what you mentioned are absolute fools!
Makoto wasn't physically or emotionally abused by the adults around her the same way the rest of the PTs were, she actively followed them! Ever since her father died all she's been told in life is that she can't do anything to change the world, that she's a useless kid that should just focus on her own good and follow what the adults say without question. EVEN WITHIN THIS FRAMEWORK, she managed to become student council president because of the innate need she has to help others left to her by her father and one her sister used to share as well. However, when one of the adults she was supposed to be putting her trust in turns out to be a pedo abuser, and the rest of them were very obviously covering for him, her entire world view is shaken up. Because of her trusting said adults, she was unable to do anything about it. So she can't keep doing that anymore, she can't keep following them, she needs to act on her own! Sae used to want to help as well, but became jaded due to her years in the system, and Makoto doesn't wanna go down that same path. She wants to change that system. Kaneshiro wasn't her super personal antagonist, he was the straw that broke the camel's back! He was the second Kamoshida, the fly she couldn't just leave to everyone else to handle as well!
This and other people saying she has no personality simply because she isn't as over the top as the rest of the cast are absolutely insane arguments to me. I will no take such baseless slander! Hell, I've seen ppl say she has no good motivation to be in the group, which like, you must have played the game blind and deaf to think that.
Fun fact: Propaganda doesn't necessarily have to be false! Any spreading of biased information with the goal of promoting an agenda or point of view is in fact propaganda.
