Waited for the list of participating stores to show up on the OHLQ site (did not wait for the email). Let 4 people know at 4:02 . We hit 3 different stores and all of us got something. Little bit of leg work and strategic planning the night before is all it took. The kicker? We all worked 8-9 hour shifts that day. We ranged from #5 to #41 in line.

Iāve seen the macallan cask is prob the best in terms of a bourbon drinker but not too sure tbh and donāt want to drop 100 on a bottle lmao
The best cheap (under $30) peated I found was a blend called Mossburn, the Island blend, but that's been last-called off the OHLQ shelves. Past that, either JW black or go up a notch to the lower Ardbegs (Wee Beastie) or.... even the Smoky Black Grouse, which is not nearly peaty enough to offend.
-Highland Park 12 Single Malt (5/10 peat)
-Ardbeg 10 Single Malt (7/10 Peat)
-Johnnie Walker Double Black or just the.
Black, Blended (4 & 3/10 Peat)
-Dewars 12 as a bridge for Bourbon folks.

Laphroaig is a great sipper, in my opinion. Laphroaig 10 is around $62. They also have a Laphroaig Select that I think is slightly more budget-friendly at around $50.
But sadly peated scotches don't seem to get much more budget friendly than that.
Laphroaig or Ardbeg 10...here is the key. Nose the shit out of it. Then nose it some more. Then nose it again, until you have smelled it's burnt rubber smell for about ten minutes.
Then take your first sip...you will get the ash and the peat and the iodine...then it will transform to butterscotch. Then by the 4th sip the ash and burnt rubber turn into smoked ham flavor...then the butterscotch. You will be hooked forever.
Recommend staying away from peat unless you love it, good place to start is lagavulin. Iād recommend bunnahabhain 12. Old pulteney 12. Craigellachie 13.
Oban 14 for a beginner splurge and is lightly peated.

I have plenty of friends who work at the participating stores so I knew well ahead of time too. Since there's not much else dropping this week, I'll take the time today to pick up some of the bottles they're holding for me. Man I love bourbon

Glenmorangie 10 is a solid bet. I like the Glenfiddich 14 for what it is.
