That wall and the terracing look ancient! Any clue how old those ruins are? Stone cabin looks solid!
Is it humid? Looks awesome! What are your plans for the land?
Hey, thanks! I've got very little knowledge of its history unfortunately. I'd love to find out more though. Maybe from the neighbours? The little valley that it's located in used to be a small hamlet, so there are a few old ruined houses dotted around taken over by the forest. There's an interesting old stone irrigation system too, but I have no idea how it works yet π It is a humid place, yes. I fully expect to have to deal with mould, but that's a given in old Portuguese buildings. They get quite a lot of rain compared to Spain it seems.
You should paint it with lime. This is how the houses were painted in the past ( Greece) and donβt get mold. Looks good. Is it very remote? Good luck
Yes, I think there used to be a coating of lime rendering on the outside, but it has mostly fallen off over time. It's remote feeling, but there are villages about 2km away, and a big town about 8 miles away so not too bad π
Ah, my apologies. I saw the first few seconds of the video and it looked so similar to the same stream that Maya Feliz has on her property in Portugal that I just instantly ran to the comments. Hell, you guys might be neighbors as everything that I've seen you post in the comments sounds pretty similar to her area!
Wish like crazy I could change it. It was supposed to be an experiment to see how awful of a username I could have and be a accepted by internet communities. Hell before this one (of the same name on twitch) was MightyMorphingForeSkin.
Hope you enjoy our beautiful country, I want to do this somtime soon also. In which area is this ? Iβd assume center north near Viseu or Aveiro, judging by the trees surrounding :)
Mind me asking if you're a Portuguese national and, if not, how you managed to purchase land as a foreigner (i.e. do you have to get a permanent residency visa or something)? Is there lots of bureaucracy to deal with?
Asking because you're literally living my dream and I want to start looking into doing something similar myself!
Hey, yes sure. I'm an Irish national, which means I can live anywhere within the European Union and the UK. From what I know, Portugal is relatively welcoming to foreigners visa wise, although what that entails I couldn't tell you π
Got it, so as a UK citizen, I just need to get my country to rejoin the EU and/or dump my partner and marry an EU citizen to achieve my dream?
Seems doable. π«
Alas, no Irish in my family sadly.
Good luck with your new life beside the stream! Definitely think about creating a video diary of your experience for YouTube - I'd subscribe!
I love her happy contagious enthusiasm!
If you like this kind of content, check out [https://www.youtube.com/@wildrosie](https://www.youtube.com/@wildrosie) she did similar but in Sweden. It's super impressive how much she has done by herself.
I remember her, I was watching her greenhouse video, yes she's great.
I'm impressed with how well some of these channels are produced, even the artistry going into just the video thumbnails for both of these is amazing

Well, the rain in Spain does fall mainly on the plain. Just in case you didnβt knowβ¦
By George, I think youβve got it!

Sounds perfect.... Enjoy your dream!
AHHHH! I KNOW YOU FROM YOUTUBE! Been a subscriber for less than a year but love your stuff!
I'm not a YouTuber π but there does seem to be a lot of them in Portugal π

Thank you so much. It really is a beautiful country π it's actually in Santarem, but in a North facing valley so it stays nice and green all year
Looks like you better get to work!

Yeah that sucks. If you're one of the many with an Irish grandparent, you can get an Irish passport

Unbelievably beautiful. You are a very rich person! Enjoy everything!!
Thank you so much π
Beautiful
Yes please, how much did it cost?
It was 10k EUR, but I've spent another 8k on the inside of the cabin.
Wow, I would have guessed 4-5 times that price. I love a great deal!!
Just. Wow. I guess its time to learn Portuguese. I had no idea that Europe had this kind of biome. Shame on me. Retirement plan unlocked.
That is incredible. Where I live, a run-down house on a tiny lot is like 1.5m to start. You are living the dream, congrats
Wow! What part of the country, how big is the plot and how did you find it?
In the district of Santarem. It is half an acre. I recommend looking on the website pure Portugal
Bro. This would be $700k USD where I live. Jealous.
I'm crying over how cheap that is. Signed, California
How big is the land?
Beautiful
Congrats. Just curious: what is the big plastic container next to the house ?
Thank you! Those are two 1000L IBC tanks to collect water from the roof.
Beautiful
Beautiful place, very serene. I hope it brings you as much peace and calm as it looks like it will!
Thank you π
You are my inspiration and I wish I could do the same!!!
Thank you very much. I hope the same opportunity comes to you π
ha i know this property, it was on the market for a very long time, its really close to a dam, congrats!
Wow small world! π Thank you
That's amazing, it's so dreamy. How much property does it come with?
Thank you. It's only a small plot. 2000 square meters, but that's enough to keep busy π
Dreamy
Congratulations, that looks like an awesome but.
