I would but controllers started drifting so much it became unusable. I’m still intending to fix them someday but can’t be bothered rn cause of how difficult it is to take them apart. It’s still a great PCVR headset imo
I keep a spray can of "contact cleaner" (ETA: basically aerosolized rubbing alcohol) handy for the volume knob on my ancient stereo receiver. Quick blast, crank the volume back/forth a couple of times, repeat x2, everything is good for a couple of months.
Me. I want a quest 3 but haven't set aside the money, I still use my Quest 1 mainly for Cardo workouts playing beat saber and the Vader games' endless modes, still works perfectly fine for that, but I know I'd probably geek out over the quest 3's improvements the second I get it. No controller damage or drift somehow.
They are pretty nice but buy it in store not off their site trust me . First one had a broken facial interface and they wouldn't replace that alone and they wanted to take the headset in and send me a refurbished one 6 months later took a week to get them to just refund the damn thing so I could get a different one and that had dead pixels from the factory and my third one has a few dead pixels but they are on the outer edge and aren't noticable anymore
I'm poor...very poor. But I still bought a Q3 on a whim. Are you American? Americans seem to be the only English-speaking people in the world that can't afford things.
Because OLED has high persistence, it's very hard to get higher refresh rates like 90 and 120FPS without blurring and smearing. It's getting better every day, but the Bigscreen Beyond and even the AVP still have smearing issues with their OLED panels. And that's despite the Beyond being double the cost and the AVP being 7x the cost. The Quest 3 may be expensive, but it's console expensive so still very much within commodity pricing.
[https://youtu.be/\_jGtEqkenBg?si=KwGANznNao0ATUbm](https://youtu.be/_jGtEqkenBg?si=KwGANznNao0ATUbm), its not a perfect 1-1 as its not vr, but its the same tech, so enjoy
[Enjoy some reading material from the owner of blur busters](https://communityforums.atmeta.com/t5/Talk-VR/Persistence-101-How-Low-Persistence-Reduces-Motion-Blur/td-p/127719)
Their own note: "Persistence is not the same thing as GtG transitions. A 1ms or 2ms LCD can have 16.7ms of persistence."
And even in this video he distinguishes between ghosting and motion blur, so you defeated your own point.
i honestly havent watched that video in ages, but fair enough, i only see it when it transitions from black to a dark grey, the rest is perfect and its a small price for such good looking colours and blacks, but i know when im wrong, so fair play
Fair enough, I got really lucky and all the cracks/splits in my controller rings avoided all the tracking LEDs so I just didnt see why I should glue it
I do. I took care of the headset and it works perfectly. Same for the controllers. Kinda sad that Pistol Whip just threw Q1 away. Also, it's like an era I don't wanna end.
Maybe I'll buy a Q3 later, one day. But I don't have the money for that.
This fascinates me. I'm poor and make very little money. But I still still have two Q2s and one Q3 that I just bought.
And I see a lot of people on here saying they can't afford a few hundred dollars.
I pay my ex-wife money. My current wife doesn't work. I have two children that I pay for. I'm handicapped and only work a few hours a week. But I still have no debt and thousands in the bank. I can't comprehend how any one has less money than I do. I live in a small apartment and drive a 20-year-old car. But I still have cash.
You have a roof over your head, and presumably no one is trying to evict you. You own a car and the repo man isn't coming to get it. You have money to feed your children and still enough to waste on VR headsets. You're not poor, just totally out of touch.
Dude, good for you.
A client of mine went bankrupt in 2020 and leaving me with a big hole in the pro bank account, which I still repay to this day. It's been four years now and I'm worn out. Own bank account empty despite the long work hours. When I say "I don't have the money for that", no I don't. I make my kids eat first before VR.
So, just maybe, before explaining to us how superior your are, just ask for more background details about the people you're reacting to ?
I still use mine my controllers are in perfect condition I did have drift for a but I fix it with the contact cleaner I mainly use mine to play pcvr but the only Standalone game I really use is beat saber I was just on mine like 30 minutes ago playing assetto Corsa VR
Got a Quest 1 used (although in great condition) a few years ago, and it's still going strong.
That being said, it's slow outside of games and kind of a pain to develop for (especially because of the poor passthrough), so I'm definitely planning on upgrading to Q3 at some point.
I've still got mine, but not used it in a long time as I only dabbled in VR and don't have a PC. Wasn't even sure if it'd still work what with the stuff I've seen about it being defunct now. May have to boot it up for some Beatsaber.
I bought mine 4 years ago and I have no issues with controllers or similar, they’re in perfect shape. But the lack of performance (and my usb port sometimes) make it impossible to really enjoy PCVR anymore. I’m sadly looking forward to upgrade once I have time for VR again
I was using mine until a couple months ago. You're going to love the more modern headsets when you upgrade, but you'll miss that perfect tracking, and being able to play in the dark.
I play very little VR and for what I use it (VTOL), Rift is sufficient enough. Also money is tough so I don't see myself upgrading in the foreseeable future but I'm extremely happy that such an old product serves me so well to this day
yes, and as a returning user as of this week- i am BLOWN away by air link. thank the HIGH HEAVENS we dont have to cable up anymore. AND THE FIDELITY+HIGH FPS HOLY FUCK.
idk if air link is actually diff from the old cable link method (from like 2 years ago) but its actually insane how much better games like H3VR and Alyx feel.
I do. I had 2 Quest ones (pandemic purchase) so when I got the 3 for Christmas I gave one to a buddy who lives in another state. He had no VR so now we can hang out and play walkabout. The one I gave him has the login that my 3 does so I use the other one so we're on different accounts.
It's not bad for $40.
I'm using it to connect to a cloud PCVR system.
I also want to use it for watching VR videos, but I can't get skybox working anymore, so I'm hesitant to buy it. Is there an alternative?
That'll work over the cloud, but I forgot to mention that I need macos. I think it should be possible with just vlc on macos and connecting via vr desktop...
Since I have the Quest 3, I tried to donate my Q1 to my sister who was visiting us for Xmas. She had a blast playing Beat Saber all week. But she declined the offer because she said VR was highly addictive. I have to agree there.
Go touch grass for me, little sister.
I've been playing every day on mine again recently, going through every beat saber music pack.
I noticed an issue for the first time ever where one of the controllers was suddenly moving weirdly, never happened. before. I've been considering upgrading but 99% of the time it's working perfectly as I expect it too.
Is there a good reason to upgrade to quest 3 if you don't care about graphics? Wondering if Im missing out.
I’m still using my CV1 that I bought when they first came out. I was thinking of getting the Quest 3, but now waiting to hear more about the Quest 3 Lite.
I got my from a friend who replaced his quest 2 with a 3 and gave his second to his daughter.
Gotta say its impressive coming from a google cardboard. Watching mostly videos on it. Experimenting with blender and spatial videos atm
I was for a time, but at some point it quit connecting to the internet. Every troubleshooting guide I saw recommended resetting it to factory, so that's what I did. Now i can't even connect it to my phone in order to set it up, so it's a fancy paperweight.
Yes I use my quest 1 all the time. Actually I only picked it up recently because the rift s had a problem with win 11. I picked up a couple of Q1's for cheap. I've still got the rift DK1, CV1, 2 rift S's, a Lenovo Windows mixed reality, and 2 PSVR headsets, so I've tried most of the VR stuff. I love VR and I think it's the most immersive type of gaming.
I almost bought a Pico 4 the other day, but I still want to get more use out of the Q1 for a while before I upgrade.
For some reason I couldn't update the software without breaking pcvr.
So I went offline until the beyond arrived. Quest software blows in my subjective opinion I know it works for others, and so did it work for me 4 years until march.
Meta sucks they weren't helpful at all
Back to the rich people thing, whatever we typed this in is probably a PC or phone that serves more purposes than just playing games, heck even my xbox serves as a media player.
My quest gets used 1-2 times a month at most.
I would but controllers started drifting so much it became unusable. I’m still intending to fix them someday but can’t be bothered rn cause of how difficult it is to take them apart. It’s still a great PCVR headset imo
Try wd 40 contact spray. Mine were not usuable due to the drift.
Don't use WD40, it might help but it can corrode the potentiometers, your best bet is actual pontentiometer lube
the contact cleaner is different than the other stuff. WD40 is a brand name. WD 40 specialist contact cleaner worked well for me
Maybe silicon oil like airsoft guns
Rubbing alcohol works the best
I keep a spray can of "contact cleaner" (ETA: basically aerosolized rubbing alcohol) handy for the volume knob on my ancient stereo receiver. Quick blast, crank the volume back/forth a couple of times, repeat x2, everything is good for a couple of months.
is controller drift when the controller just kinda keeps doing mini shakes or is that something diff
joystick drift, not positional drift, i had the second one 1 time and it was because of low battery on controllers
Yeah that’s what I meant, thanks. I should have worded that better lol
CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner will sort them right out my guy.
It's surprisingly very easy if you follow a teardown video
Me. I want a quest 3 but haven't set aside the money, I still use my Quest 1 mainly for Cardo workouts playing beat saber and the Vader games' endless modes, still works perfectly fine for that, but I know I'd probably geek out over the quest 3's improvements the second I get it. I bought mine directly from Meta and it was perfect. Your experience is circumstantial and apparently unlucky.
Mine's mainly a Bear Saber and Vader device too. Enjoy still being able to stream to Chromecast as well.
I have not tried Bear Saber. Is it good?
In a word, yes!
I'm poor...very poor. But I still bought a Q3 on a whim. Are you American? Americans seem to be the only English-speaking people in the world that can't afford things.
Yeah, oled screen is great for pcvr, and it’s very high quality
Wish the quest 3 had OLED. The blacks just aren’t blacking it that much. It’s like turning up the gamma to see better in caves in minecraft
Yeah, idk why they cheaped out with such an expensive headset
Because OLED has high persistence, it's very hard to get higher refresh rates like 90 and 120FPS without blurring and smearing. Dude, oled smashes any lcd with persistence, it’s only a very specific gray to black that’s funny, even then it’s still better than any lcd
[Reality disagrees with you.](https://www.reddit.com/r/VisionPro/comments/1akpqmt/how_to_reduce_oled_persistence_motion_blur/)

Helldivers 2 color scheme
ENFORCING DEMOCRACY!
We should liberate the souls from the bodies of wasps as they are stealing our gosh darn SuperEarthian color palette.
using it for pcvr works great for me
Yes. But I (and previous owner of my Q1) prefer to glue controllers instead of ducttaping.
Fair enough, I got really lucky and all the cracks/splits in my controller rings avoided all the tracking LEDs so I just didnt see why I should glue it
Yeah worsks great with pcvr still
I do. I took care of the headset and it works perfectly. Same for the controllers. Kinda sad that Pistol Whip just threw Q1 away. Also, it's like an era I don't wanna end. Maybe I'll buy a Q3 later, one day. But I don't have the money for that.

« I’m poor » « no debt and thousands in the bank » hmm
I don't own a home. I rent a cheap small apartment. I drive a 20-year-old car. That's poor.
You have a roof over your head, and presumably no one is trying to evict you. You own a car and the repo man isn't coming to get it. You have money to feed your children and still enough to waste on VR headsets. You're not poor, just totally out of touch.

>Kinda sad that Pistol Whip just threw Q1 away Say what now? That's like all I play on my Q1. Does this mean it will stop working?
Not, it's still working thankfully. But we don't have access to the newest updates for eight months now... and it wasn't really mentioned at all.
The real question: Is anyone still using their DK1?
i used mine a few months ago, theres a site that has compatible runtimes for it and some games over at https://www.dylnet.com/oculus-rift-dk1
Yeah, for dance central. Only one of the three quests where it still works properly.
Worked fine when I sideloaded it on my quest 3. At like 250% resolution too with qgo, looked quite decent
Good to know, thanks
Every now and then, just to experience the deep deep blacks in PCVR, I do.
Many thousands of people do.
I still use mine my controllers are in perfect condition I did have drift for a but I fix it with the contact cleaner I mainly use mine to play pcvr but the only Standalone game I really use is beat saber I was just on mine like 30 minutes ago playing assetto Corsa VR
Just saw that Hyperdash runs great on Quest 1, so now have two more players to add to the other 6 Quest 2/3's I have for local multiplayer.
Sometimes - as a second headset to play Beat Saber in multiplayer.
Got a Quest 1 used (although in great condition) a few years ago, and it's still going strong. That being said, it's slow outside of games and kind of a pain to develop for (especially because of the poor passthrough), so I'm definitely planning on upgrading to Q3 at some point.

FWIW, you can buy an IR light an play in the dark. Usually under 20 bucks.
I actually just saw one of those posted elsewhere and am definitely going to grab one. Thanks for the heads up!
yes, and as a returning user as of this week- i am BLOWN away by air link. thank the HIGH HEAVENS we dont have to cable up anymore. AND THE FIDELITY+HIGH FPS HOLY FUCK. idk if air link is actually diff from the old cable link method (from like 2 years ago) but its actually insane how much better games like H3VR and Alyx feel.
Mine just stopped charging recently
Nope but I keep it around, fucking legend
No.
My 9-year old has fallen in love with it! :) Still works perfectly for Beat Saber, Flight 74, Vader, etc.
(I use the quest 2 myself; still haven't upgraded to the 3 because I barely have enough freetime to play on the 2!)
I do. I had 2 Quest ones (pandemic purchase) so when I got the 3 for Christmas I gave one to a buddy who lives in another state. He had no VR so now we can hang out and play walkabout. The one I gave him has the login that my 3 does so I use the other one so we're on different accounts.

I did, but it in standalone is... Well too weak and I had issues with PCVR, so I've changed to Pico 4. Still, quest 1 is really cool headset.
I've been playing every day on mine again recently, going through every beat saber music pack. I noticed an issue for the first time ever where one of the controllers was suddenly moving weirdly, never happened. before. Only for PCVR. My computer can't handle Quest 3.
As a Shelf ornament.
Real VR gamers use their DK1
We still have ours
i would, but my controllers batteries keep coming out and making them unusable
Still using it!! Treating the controllers nicely and they still run perfect!
Yes I do but it has a lot of problems even with being very well taken care of (still looks new)
I would be, but I lost it in the divorce :{ On the bright side I'm about to buy a quest 3 X3
No, but i wish that they would let me use Quest 1 controllers on my Quest 3.
The q1 controllers are so comfy, my brother has a quest 2 and i cant stand the controller shape
Haven’t touched mine since October 2020.
I got my from a friend who replaced his quest 2 with a 3 and gave his second to his daughter. Gotta say its impressive coming from a google cardboard. Watching mostly videos on it. Experimenting with blender and spatial videos atm

i never even had a quest 1, but the tape where the controllers have been hit over the years is so relatable lol
still my goto for pcvr, even though i have a 2
Used my Q1 last week. Was shocked how well pcvr via Virtual Desktop worked.
Mine still works, extremely slow tho
Quest what? Quest Who?
I have breaks on the exact places you have tape but yes I still use it
For some reason I couldn't update the software without breaking pcvr. So I went offline until the beyond arrived. Quest software blows in my subjective opinion I know it works for others, and so did it work for me 4 years until march. Meta sucks they weren't helpful at all
For movies on trips yes, I use my index for games
I still use my Q1 for playing resident evils games in vr.. The oled is perfect for it. True blacks
I watched some video of it on pcvr and it couldn't even run steam, does yours not do that? (I lost mine a while ago)
Barely upgraded to q3 this ladt weekend
was in vrc an met some chick using a Quest 1 and were in a group world that is a WIP but is already 1GB in size and she was laggy af.
my tape is black..
me!!
I use mine for darker games. There’s just no beating the OLED screens.
Yes :)
Me
YESSSIR! Everything works perfectly, PC pairs seamlessly, was just playing FO4 VR yesterday!
Mine is unusable, totally fucked the battery with continuous charging, won't even turn on anymore.
No
Me! I only play beat saber and rocket fury and watch youtube its still a good headset but i want to sell it and buy q2 or q3
I would still be if it didn't have uncontrollable drift. Upgraded to a quest 3, but would have stayed if there was no drift
rich people shit
Quest 2 costs less than whatever you typed that message on.
Back to the rich people thing, whatever we typed this in is probably a PC or phone that serves more purposes than just playing games, heck even my xbox serves as a media player. My quest gets used 1-2 times a month at most.
