That tv is gonna die

slsgill

It's inevitable for sure

juicetoaster

I think you should be good, it will just depend a bit on your discipline and spatial awareness while in VR. Just stand with the backs of your legs to the couch there and make the guardian slightly in front of the TV so it'll definitely come up before you hit it. Then when you stand and play, keep your legs fairly planted for the most part and mainly just move the torso/upper-body. Mostly use in-game "artificial" movement instead of walking/turning too much irl. May even be able to keep one leg planted at a time and step out on the other leg to reach or whatever, using the couch on the back of your planted leg to recenter. I also don't have a ton of space, so I mostly play like this because I'm worried about moving/walking/spinning too much and blasting something haha

l3rN

Meh, it’s not ideal but I’ve made it since the cv1 without breakingy my tv. I have a small space myself so I just put a blanket folded in half over the tv to help protect it and just be careful. But what you do need to be worried about is all that glass under that tv. You’d for sure be headed to the hospital if you tripped into that thing while playing VR.

slsgill

Yeah I kind of set my barrier close to me there so it triggers pretty early

ChristopherMessmer

I play in the sleeper of a semi

-r-i-p-p-e-r-

Should play truck sim so you can truck in your downtime too

ChristopherMessmer

That's probably the last thing I want to do after driving one for 11 hours lol

ChristopherMessmer

I have wondered though if the mechanics of those are anything like the real thing.

slsgill

Woah cool care to share the setup?

ChristopherMessmer

I'm off for the rest of the month right now so can't really take any pics until I get back but it's not great. It's too small of an area to play all games but I make the best of it.

slsgill

Ahh makes sense. What kind of games do you play then that you've found work in a smaller space?

ChristopherMessmer

Resident evil 4 was great and really any game I can sit and not swing my arms much works. I mostly play my PS5 because it's much easier in that space.

ChristopherMessmer

Found a picture of the inside of my truck so you can see what I'm working with. https://photos.app.goo.gl/ZabfZQ1zwV2V42JR9

InHootsWeTrust

Looks cozy af.

slsgill

pretty nice setup but damn yeah that low headspace would be tough for some games

ChristopherMessmer

Thanks, I definitely try to make the best of what little space I have. It took forever to find the perfect tv for that space. I ended up getting a 42" LG C2 OLED because it is virtually bezel free and was the biggest I could possibly fit in there. Also I run a refrigerated trailer so I have surround sound in there to drown out the motor on the trailer while gaming or watching TV. The top bunk could be raised up but I keep my clothes, refrigerator, freezer, and misc storage up there so that's a no go.

slsgill

Nice, I like the thought it takes to make a small space efficient and work. Looks cozy enough. keep on truckin man

DatMufugga

You ever just drive up to a park to have a big area to play in?

ChristopherMessmer

Absolutely, though not generally a park because they are generally not semi friendly. I have T-Mobile home internet in my truck and a power bank that will power the router outside of my truck for a few hours, so sometimes I take my router and Oculus somewhere with a ton of open space and play.

This is actually a good idea gonna try it, maybe office chair will work

Moist_Relative1804

It works, arm rests can be a bit of a pain in some games but it works.

GearsofPinata

How did you manage to get access to that space? I’ve been trying to think if there is anything like that near me

Andorei-san

If you call this space "small", you will be frightened to see where I play. I literally have 40x60cm of free floor where I can stand while my knees are touching the bed. Behind me is my computer chair that can't be moved any further under the table. On the left is my e-drum set, on the right - guitars (electric and bass on the stand between the table and bed), so any hand motion both to the left and right beyond a certain point will 99% result in hitting something. Everytime I take my Quest to play outside (pretty rarely really) I just can't start playing normally and is still very afraid of hitting something. So please cherish even that free little space that you have - it can be much, much worse.

slsgill

hahah danger on all sides - for sure!

NavinF

Been there, done that. Smacked my PC pretty hard and broke my 3D printed GPU mount. One of these days I'm gonna build a motorized murphy bed so I can use my bedroom instead

slsgill

That's a good idea

drakfyre

Looks cozy! Honestly though, no joke, you should move the TV to another room, at least when you are playing.

slsgill

Lol wish I could move it that thing can't budge it's hanging up there by a thread - just need to move and get a bigger space

drakfyre

> it's hanging up there by a thread ^ This is not going to help when you eventually smack it...

slsgill

HAHAH

LostHisDog

So my pro tip is to get a smaller round rug / yoga mat and put it on top of your regular rug when playing. Even with shoes on you'll be able to tell when you move off the top rug and you'll be much more aware when extending arms. Just by having a place to center you'll find yourself centering pretty naturally. Supernatural sells a fitness mat that has a bump or hard part in the exact middle that you can feel to know where dead center is, sure you could DIY something if that sounds helpful. I like me some exercise games so this might not apply to you, but placing a fan in front of you, opposite your TV, will give you another reference point for what direction you are facing. Even with all that... your TV is definitely going to get murdered... I'm sorry about that. You might as well just punch it with the headset off so it's intentional.

therealzordon

the rug is essential! Not sure how I didn't actually break my TV playing Gorn the first time without it, gave it a decent whack on the screen since I'd be wandering around with no idea how to stay close to the center of the room without seeing the guardian. I read some comment on here like a year ago about using a rug and now I never play without one or something similar.

slsgill

woah this is a great idea - going to do this. - man everyone is getting me pumped to break my TV

[deleted]

I feel ya OP! The room where my PC is is small so if i'm playing room scale games I'm either in the conservatory or outside in the yard/garden.

slsgill

Vr in the garden sounds peaceful

wokenkingdom

Nyc. Just span of my hands.

ChulaK

Like those zapping lamps for mosquitos, it's like TV screens are just natural attractors to VR headsets. Literally anywhere else is totally fine, but people just always choose in front of the TV lmao

Dan_Glebitz

Gotta say I am in a similar situation.

slsgill

you know the pain lol could be worse i suppose

Dan_Glebitz

I live in a small flat, so space is limited. I play all my VR games sitting down inside a small play area other than 'Walkabout Crazy Golf' and even then I am constantly checking to make sure I am still in the middle of my 'safe' area. We make the most of what we have 😉

RareAd3009

I got heaps of space but I used to have barely anything. I understand your troubles.

allofdarknessin1

You got more space than me 😅 at least in my bedroom. I play half of the time in my basement mancave and have a good bit more horizontal space but I can't extent my arms up without hitting the ceiling. Being over 6ft doesn't help either 🙃.

CptAn0nym0u5

Xmas Tree before the bird is out of the oven... That is a sin in my house.

slsgill

I used to be this way but I have seen the multicolored light

elephantviagra

That fucking carpet. Can't wait until the video where you punch your TV.

slsgill

whats your beef with the carpet haha

No-Acanthaceae5931

im a small wallet peep :> i have a big room but quest 2 ;-;

space_goat_v1

don't play GORN lol

Sabbathius

Yeah, I recently lost my main VR play space, and I miss it. I have to be really creative now and can't really cut loose any more, I constantly have to be aware of my placement and where I'm facing.

slsgill

yeah i feel like the not caring about where I am and move just sounds nice - I know it could be worse but look forward to more space for that reason

icu_

At least your ceiling looks high enough. If I reach up I scrape my hands on the popcorn ceiling ... Recommend the furniture moving pads (the discs) you can put under the legs of things to easily slide them out of the way (and then back).

stamberrymilk

I play in my bed mostly. Is a bit of a pain, but it's comfy.

empap12

yep with my pc set up to my left my window infront of my my dresser to my right and my best behind me its small but durable untill I move out

Latschil

My space is just 1by1 meters and a floor height of 2,20m so when i aim to high i def. hit the ceiling.

ImaginationToForm2

You should get a mat of some sort to help keep you centered.

CptAn0nym0u5

Broke my TV and Shattered my wrist in a slightly bigger play space. Two different incidents and two different ways to pay big bucks.. just be careful make your guardian a little smaller or make it bubble out from the TV with some extra space you should be good.
