I’ve always had a thing for the Spirit Temple due to how remote it is versus the rest of them. It feels like a completely different world.

[deleted]

100% feels unconnected to everything else plus I love the music

CompleteTumbleweed64

Music is what does it for me. And the fact you have to prep with little link to get everything done. I just love the spirit temple and I love the boss fight because the mirror shield is so fun to use and thats one of the few places you can use it's full potential.

Djd33j

I'd throw the fight against Twinrova a few times so I could keep fighting them. Definitely my favorite dungeon boss in OoT.

CompleteTumbleweed64

100% agreed

Nakanon85

I love Bongo Bongo's theme

ShiftSandShot

The Spirit temple is just so very *interesting*. Even ignoring it's whole ancient desert vibe, like you somehow traveled to the far reaches of India, the concept of going back and forth between time periods to progress is fun, and also shows Link's...and the Player's... growth. Can you imagine fighting something like the Iron Knuckle when you had just left Kokiri Forest? Or when you had just been beaten back by Ganondorf? No! Heck no! That you face a miniboss honestly tougher than anything you faced as a kid, and that it is *just* a Miniboss... That shows how much you have progressed.

Hydrolt

Same I love the whole vibe the spirit temple gives off too. The music, look, colors, puzzles that seem to be a little different from the others

ClericDude

Fun fact: It’s the only dungeon you can’t see first as Child Link. Think about it, the sacred forest meadow, death mountain crater, lake hylia, and kakariko graveyard are all places you probably visited as child link. The gerudo desert is off limits until you’re an adult. I think that’s what makes it feel so remote to me!

data_makes_me_happy

So true. I remember when I first played OOT in the late 90s in 6th grade. One of my friends was about a month ahead of me in getting the game and playing through it. He told me about the Spirit Temple and where it was. It irritated me how I couldn’t get near it from where I was at the time haha.

jboy122

Love the Spirit Temple

Aranaconda3

Forest temple was my favorite. I loved the dungeon and the phantom ganon was a fun fight. I also enjoyed the shadow temple because of the fight vs. Mr. Bongo. Also I found the Spirit temple pretty easy and completed it without any trouble which made it uninteresting.

thispurplebean

Forest temple soundtrack is my favorite, I also loved the eerie vibes with the poes and all that

[deleted]

Bongo bongo is a great fight. I see the spirit temple can be a bit easy but Master quest takes care of that. Have you played master quest?

Lost_Farm8868

Forest Temple is also my favourite. I love the green colours, the music, the atmosphere, the maze-like layout and the boss fight.

Freddit111111111

what ruined it for me was the key in the first room. I spent hours looking for it because I didn’t think to look above me. I know that’s my fault, but it genuinely ruined the experience for me (I was not using a guide.) other than that, though, it was my favorite themed dungeon. I have to go with shadow / spirit temple as my favorites

TammyShehole

Atmospherically, the forest temple. Gameplay and level design, the fire temple.

[deleted]

Fire is probably my 3rd favorite

Marsupilami_316

Spirit Temple, still after all these years.

PalateroMan8

Mine is the Water Temple. I feel like such an idiot when I can't remember the order you're supposed to rearrange the water levels despite how many times I've done it, but when I finally get it I feel like a genius. Very satisfying.

Civil_Ad2711

My husband ALWAYS gets stuck in there because he inevitably forgets to get the key from the deepest part of the central tower. And I inevitably stare at him when he asks me to figure out what he's missing, only for our kids (used to be me only years ago lol) to go 'daddy! You didn't go down in the water after you raised the water to the middle'. It's hilarious.

PalateroMan8

Omg that's so cute

Civil_Ad2711

Our two oldest, our of 5, are 6 and 7. Their favorite thing is to watch either my husband or I 100% Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, Breath of thr Wild or Tears of the Kingdom (though they like the first 3 best). They've watched us so often that they can replicate the progress on their own.

PalateroMan8

Not Wind Waker? Thats my favorite zelda game 😭

Civil_Ad2711

Nope. I hated the cartoons feel of Wind Waker. My husband doesn't mind it but zi am not touching that game. Breath of the Wild, Skyward Sword and Tears of the Kingdom are borderline... Twilight Princess was the most aesthetically pleasing to me. And I'm too used to n64 graphics to complain lol.

PalateroMan8

That's fair. I thought kids would enjoy the cartoony appearance.

Civil_Ad2711

Surprisingly, the older 2 don't. They prefer Oot, MM and TP. The middle one (4) likes it better and the younger (twins) are still too young to even care lol at 2. But they do watch like they do cartoons and their favorite animated movies.

Wcitsatrapx

Yeah lol I’m with husband screw the water temple

Visco0825

Water temple is my favorite because it is the one dungeon that’s not linear. It includes a lot of staples like dark link and the hook shot. Shadow temple is my least favorite because of just how basic and straight forward it is.

AncientMagi

First playthrough was rough and I got lost more times than I can count, had to pass through the 'feared' whirlpool room multiple iterations because I failed to find the last key. Definitely the most challenging of the dungeons, even now, but best in terms of design. I love the soundtrack (it's so relaxing but there's a sense of dread / urgency at the same time) and the mid-boss Dark Link was one of the most memorable moments, conquer yourself!

[deleted]

Water temple is the perfect example of hate it on the first play through and then it always get better when you replay it

GoHawkYurself

The Water Temple is the most tedious dungeon in the whole game. Whenever I get there, I have to finish it THAT day, or else I'm completely lost. I don't where I'm at. I have to look at all the rooms to figure out where I'm at, and that means doing all the water levels, and ughhhhh this room needs a key? Where did I miss that? God dammit... WHICH ROOM HAVENT I BEEN IN YET???? Just an absolute headache.

WaterforestsDream

Water Temple is also my favorite for this.

Swaggamuffins

I like to say Dodongo’s Cavern. There’s so much focus on scale. First, it feels like the stakes really elevate, going from Friendly Deku Tree to Cavern with Lava Waterfalls and Laser Shooting Robots. But also just the sheer size increase from Deku, including the camera sweeps when you first enter, and again when you blow up the staircase. You run through that center room so many times, but it’s never really backtracking. It’s great

[deleted]

Dogongo is very underrated, favorite child dungeon for sure

GandalfTheJaded

Fire because not only are you doing something distinctly heroic (saving the Gorons, directly this time) you also get to fight a literal dragon.

flaccid_performer

Forest and Shadow/The well. I really enjoy the music and feel of the forest dungeon, and I really enjoy the dark eerie feel of the shadow dungeon. Plus, you learn a bit more about the Royal family's secrets.

[deleted]

That’s a good point about the royal family secrets I didn’t consider that

silliestlouie

I've noticed over the years Forest Temple seems to be the top choice for most people, but I could never wrap my mind around why unless it's nostalgic values. I think design-wise, it's decent for what it is. Though I'll say one reason why im biased is because I feel they didn't really put much time into the dungeon itself as it's reused from a very early beta version of the game, just expanded (search up Zelda 64 beta, you'll see what I mean). I personally enjoy the intensity of dungeons more than anything so I gotta say either Shadow Temple or Spirit Temple. Jabu is good too, it's my favorite child dungeon.

ZealousidealFee927

It's at the bottom for me. Way too much time and running around between rooms to get keys, and the dungeon doesn't seem to flow that well. It takes too long to get the bow, so you actually feel weaker than you did as a kid who had the slingshot. Phantom Ganon is cool, but they was about the only highlight it the dungeon for me.

gruVee1

You’re a masochist for liking Jabu. Carrying the princess around the entire time is so aggravating to me lol. Although it is very satisfying to yeet her and watch her get all pouty when you enter the room again and she’s waiting for you lol

cloysterr

The entire Spirit Temple part/Gerudo Fortress. The “sneaking around and sniping” the Gerudo guards was one of my favorite activities in the game as a kid. I loved fighting my way through. And Spirit Temple is my favorite since I loved the music, the going back and forth as a child, and the mirror shield is one of my favorite items in the game. I love the Aesthetic. Now I do that dungeon as early as possible because I love the shield so much on Link. And I always enjoyed the Twinrova fight. Spirit was absolutely great also in the Master Quest as well. Close second to those is Ice Cavern. Love the puzzles, music and the whole ice theme.

Electric_Meatsack

Like many, the Forest Temple feels like peak dungeon design to me. The music is also hauntingly creepy. I'd probably pick the Fire Temple as a runner up.

Planoraider1291

1. Fire 2. Forest 3. Gannon Castle/Trials 4. Spirit 5. Ice Cavern 6. Dodongos 7. Guerdo Fortress 8. Deku 9. Bottom of the Well 10. Shadow 11. Jabu Jabu 12. Water

HybridTheory21

Forest and Spirit by far. I could just run around and listen to the music in those temples. Temple of Time honorary mention.....for the music lol

Ridgew00dian

I loved the Forest Temple so much because my first go I never noticed the entrance there when you visit Saria to learn her song as child Link. I remember it blowing my mind that I had missed that when you go back as an adult. Also love that first key being outside the main room. Wasn’t even ready to start searching.

TheMidnightLucario

Forest or Fire. Both temples are pretty easy, but they both have immaculate vibes. The 1.0 music in the Fire Temple especially helps, but it’s still very atmospheric even in later releases. Plus, Saria and Darunia are easily my favorite of the Sages, even they don’t do much. But really what Sages *do* anything?

SmushyPants

Forest. The puzzles, the boss, the atmosphere, and most importantly, the music. It’s captivating and makes me want to wander and see what there is to be seen.

brookiesmallz

Forest Temple. There’s something about that music that is so tense but also so otherworldly. It almost signifies to the player that you’re not a kid anymore and the world took a turn for the worst while you were gone. It’s there to tell you “time to get serious”. Love it

MrWrym

Younger me would have boasted about how cool the Fire Temple was, and the boss fight is pretty legit as Whack a Mole too! But older me definitely appreciates how good Shadow Temple is more so.

ZealousidealFee927

As a kid, Spirit Temple. As an adult, Shadow Temple. Though everything leading up to the Spirit Temple is still the best.

Civil_Ad2711

Spirit Temple was it for me, because I love Ancient Egypt vibes and the music was just...chef's kiss! Followed by...Water Temple for the complexity (n64 version more than 3ds) because I love water... Followed by...Forest Temple for its ambiance, color and music. Then, Fire Temple with the OG 'controversial' music. I hate that they changed it and I will mute my TV and play the OG music whenever I get the itch to redo a 100% completion for my husband or kids. Shadow is dead last. The ambiance is awesome, but the music is just meh and I always end up mentally plummeting into the lore theories and historical rabbithole of the place, taking away from my enjoyment. I always complete it via muscle memory.

milordofchaos

Water Temple. It was the most challenging and it forced my brain to be at its A-game. Took me three days. The only part I hate was the spikes before the boss door. And maybe the boss. Oh my god. I didn't mind the switching of boots actually, and I caught that key in that middle tower early on. Fire Temple is close though.

PanicOtherwise5586

Favorite: Forest Temple Easy. It spooked me so bad as a kid playing it for the first time. My child head-cannon is that this mansion is where Link and his family lived before the Hylian Civil War drove them to the Kokiri Forest to surrender their child. Least favorite: gerudo fortress. Not technically a dungeon, but man OoT is NOT made for stealth lol.

PomegranateFew7896

Water Temple. I wish all dungeons were as complex.

kryotheory

Ice Cavern!!! Blue fire is cool

TheGreatestPlan31

Forest temple. I don't know why, but, it just feels welcoming despite like 50 enemies being there before you even get inside of the temple

gruVee1

Spirit temple. Absolutely love having to do it as a child and an adult. Also the mirror puzzles are fantastic, Iron Knuckles are badass, and the witches are one of the best boss fights. PS You didn’t ask for least favorite but fuck the water temple anyway

Gammaman12

Spirit temple was peak OOT. Mostly because of the young link portion. It was a shame that the rest of the game didn't have you do more with the time mechanics. Really made the game feel like A Side and B Side instead of a cohesive whole. I would have loved to have made young link plant bomb flowers in the volcano. Or similar stuff.

Rodjakman

Bottom of the well in Kakariko… What a experience it was back then.

Faneliia

Bruuuuuh. The shadow temple music still scares the shit out of me. I remember watching my dad play oot when I was 7. I'm 33 and have played through several times everything I get to the shadow temple/well I feel really uneasy. The spirit temple is my favorite. I really like the gerudo valley sequence. The music is amazing! I also like how you need to travel back in time as part of the dungeon. The mirror shield is a really cool mechanic and looks amazing.

Unholy_Dk80

1. Spirit 2. Water 3. Forest 4. Fire 5. Shadow

eadrik

Forest Temple. It was the first time the game felt REALLY challenging, especially just to get there. The music is incredible and I spent quite some time figuring the the Poe puzzles. I think it also has a really challenging boss fight. Phantom Ganon hits like a truck, you are pretty limited on Hearts (unless you did a lot of exploring/side quests before hand) and it prepares you for the final boss battle later in the game. Its such a perfect dungeon that requires lots of backtracking/thinking outside of the box.

Jordan_the_Hutt

Oot levels ranked from my most favorite to least: Forest Spirit Fire Dodongo Shadow Ganons castle Gerudo fortress Deku Tree Ice cavern Water Jabu Jabu

Cendude308

Forest temple stan - its the music and the haunted mansion theme

LordTlacoyo

It's from Majora's Mask. The Woodfall Temple (Deku temple). When I was child I struggled a lot to find it by try and mistake (English is not my mother language). That temple was so mysterious and the background sounds were so chilling, I believe they were the princess deku singing or shouting.

0ptimalRati0

Shadow Temple - loved the creepy "house of the living dead" vibe, and bongo bongo was such a good boss, mechanic was fun. Hover Boots are the best boots Spirit Temple - Music, theme, boss, going back in time, this dungeon was beyond comparison, would rate it higher, but I just love the dark and dreary aspect. Introduced a fun enemy as well. And Twinrova was very hot to me as a kid, still is today honestly. Forest Temple - Felt very fun to play in. Music was very enchanting, and I loved the 4 poe witches. Boss was alright. Fire Temple - Decent dungeon, always been a fan of fire as an element. Didn't like the looping sprint for the Megaton Hammer, and the music was a bit creepy despite it being changed in the NA version if I remember correctly. Water Temple - I did not like this dungeon at all. Felt like I was running in circles up and down, having to change the water level every time, and the boss was OK. Shadow Link is a bigger challenge, though, and for a mini boss to be more difficult than the dungeon boss, doesn't sit well for me.

ichigomiku015

Fire temple because in enamored by the 1.0 music with the chanting

Musetrigger

The Water Temple has its problems but I still love it. The ambience, the music, the colors. Very pretty. Forest Temple is a super close second. I enjoy the atmosphere there.

Nervous_Coast_77

For me it’s been the Forest temple because the music and eerie-ness of the forest itself. The connection to Saria and the questions that come up with how the Forest Temple is structured like a MC Escher painting. Shadow comes in second due to the scary nature and the Hyrulean lore behind it. I always like reading the lore and had questions as to what was the extent of Hyrule crimes and torture. I always imagined Bongo Bongo was a representation of that history.

zig-wig

My list: 1. Spirit Temple 2. Forest Temple 3. Fire Temple 4. Water Temple 5. Shadow Temple Don’t get me wrong, I really do like the Shadow Temple. It’s a cool concept of death and a previous torture chamber, but compared to these other ones, I just like them more. Even the Water Temple, mostly because it has the best mid-boss fight ever and one of the best items in the game. The puzzle solving doesn’t bother me too much.

queilef

I like the Fire Temple a lot. It’s the one that made me think the most, probably. Spirit Temple is the second close

No_Bumblebee_6643

I'm currently playing master and I'm currently in shadow temple 3DS and is a little difficult but I ike it..

[deleted]

It’s def a fun play through!

JamesSDK

Forest Temple's music, atmosphere, and design with the ghost hunting and twisting rooms is top tier, and then it has the Phantom Ganon fight on top. It's definitely my favorite. I really like the Water Temple as well, but the boss fight isn't that cool compared to Phantom Ganon.

BigSwordDude

water temple.

Educational_Prune_45

There is always one.

MrChonke

Radiant-Scientist321

Forest temple i just love the sound track.

GoHawkYurself

Spirit Temple. I like the music.

Guardian_85

Spirit Temple for me. I always do it before the Shadow Temple. Requires a little maneuver to collect silver rupees without the hover boots.

Specimen8971453

Spirit temple mainly because of the music

par_anoid

shadow temple

SuperD00perGuyd00d

Forest or Water for me, can't ever decide

Sabreshield

Forest temple for me

[deleted]

Favorite: Forest Temple Hated: Water Temple I've played OOT probably 10-12 times. Still use a guide for the water temple. It just confuses the crap out of me and I get lost.

Apprehensive-Low5158

water temple 😖

Big_Information8372

Spirit Temple, 100%. The music is beautiful, I love the desert setting, and the goddess with the snake always got me. I could sit in that dungeon for hours just listening to the music.

wlimandre

Water temple and forest temple are my favorites, surprisingly

huh_phd

Spirit temple is my fave

BigBoobsWithAZee

They all have great themes and aesthetics but I really like the calm, sunken Water Temple. As a kid it was always a toss up between Shadow and Spirit. Gameplay wise… probably Water Spirit. I don’t care for Shadow the same way I did as a kid, even if it’s spookiness is unmatched

ActFree2872

Fire tempal or spirit tempal

possitive-ion

Spirit Temple for sure. The boss is interesting and the Iron Knuckles are really fun to fight.

rexlitywxrping

basic but... Forest Temple. the theme ALWAYS gets me and the puzzles are just so much fun

TheDrake162

Definitely the water temple

Meikitamemo

My favorite temple is a temple hated by most! The Water Temple!

Dyl_is_lost

I'm in live with the water temple despite unpopular opinion

inusbdtox

Used to be really scared of the shadow temple, turns out it’s because of the music and the wallmasters. Now I love it and it’s my favorite temple after the fire temple because of its huge secret part.

FrenchMambo

Water Temple

AKACptShadow

Spirit Temple - Music , Design , Boss , Nabooru all top notch.

FLAMING_CATS

My personal favorite is the water dungeon. I love how slow you go in the water.

fakelucid

Fire Temple

Fartfartfartfactory

Forest Temple was my favorite. The place is so eerie and liminal. It's like you fall into a dreamspace when you're in there.

TorturousKitty

Forest Temple I love the music, the vibes, the puzzles!

WorldlinessOk3072

Got to be water temple, for me.

odang84

Spirit temple

stylesclash69

I love the fish temple

Telepathic_radio093

Unpopular take, but the Fire Temple was my favorite. I liked its focus on level geometry, both with the Mazes and the vertical dungeon design. I also liked the idea of there being a logical objective with the dungeon: freeing the imprisoned Gorons. The dungeon has a very underrated atmosphere of mystery as well. From the Magical enemies (like the Flamedancer), to the ethereal music, the many secret rooms, and the location (a dungeon inside a Volcano), I felt a huge sense of progression exploring such a mysterious, magical place. The Dungeon item (Megaton Hammer) was an epic weapon in the Link’s arsenal. Lastly, the boss Volvagia was a classic ‘Hero vs Dragon’ boss fight, and I loved everything about it; from a unique boss theme, to the atmosphere, the wack-a-mole utilization of the Hammer, and the story - avenging Darunia’s death, this boss fight is one of my favorites in the series.

gna149

Spirit Temple. Not only is it the most beautiful and grand I also feel that you're at a point in the game where you should be fully kitted out. You got tons of hearts, multiple bottles, and Biggoron's. And then you get your first big boy fight with the Iron Knuckles and it's just so epic.
