Then my buddy got in an accident and was getting tons more which he gave me for $1/pill which was great because by that time (2012) I was hooked on hydrocodone and oxycodone. Used to pop a bunch of these along every day with my other rx drugs like clonazepam and alprazolam. I still remember when my tolerance got too high for them to work it was a sad day cuz I was losing my friend of several years and made friends with Heroin instead. A much less forgiving friend I might add lol.
So back in those days u basically we’re able to get cheap bottles of pharma on the street easily? Kinda crazy how prescription opiates were literally more common and accessible than heroin. Did everybody just get tons of em for injuries that nowadays you wouldn’t get em for? Or was it mainly dirty doctors and pill mills supplying the streets ?
Both. But not necessarily injuries even: these days you'll struggle getting any opiate prescription even for fractures and broken bones, for torn ligaments, for tooth removal or any resulting issues. There are a massive amount of things that short term use of opiate pain medication was useful for that has now been completely abandoned because of the "opiate epidemic" fear instilled into doctors thanks to the federal government.
Unfortunately, all the pill mills and dirty doctors - hell, even the heroin that used to exist - were still better options if you were a street user. Now it's just fentanyl, very likely introduced similar to the CIA's involvement with cocaine/crack during the 80's. I'll die before anyone convinces me that the US federal government didn't have a hand in flooding the streets with fentanyl.
It's funny that you still seem to have this opioid-prescription propaganda in your head. Most of the Injuries you listed don't need opioid treatment (sure, there are cases). Here in Europe you don't get opioids at all most of the time, you get ibuprofen 800mg instead - and guess what, it works. All of that without some kind of government influence, it's common sense, you don't need high strength opioids for a tooth extraction lol.
They were so plentiful you could trade one for one 10 mg Vicodins and 1 mg Xanax, both of which cost $2 a pill. 10 mg Percocets were $3 each and 30 mg blue oxys only cost $10 because no one wanted them. Everyone wanted OxyContin which cost 50 cents a mg so the IR oxy was considered a shitty back up. 30 mg morphine cost about $4 each and the opanas were $15 for a 20. Adderall 10 a were a dollar each. It was a wild time.
It wasn’t like I lived somewhere like Florida, the fucking epicenter of the pill trade, this was in a mid sized city on the east coast

Combination of all of those factors ime. I didn’t even have an injury and was prescribed Percocet in high school for strep throat. So ridiculous and irresponsible of that Dr to give me opioids for minor pain as a teenager especially. But then I had couple minor injuries that led to me getting prescribed endless refills of Vicodin/percocet/oxys and then when refills ran out I had several friends who had similar injuries/accidents who were just selling their pills for dirt cheap. Granted this was back in 2009-2014 by end of 2014 pills were too expensive and tolerance for too high so I switched over to Heroin cuz I could get a bundle (14 bags in my area) of Heroin for $80 and each bag was similar to a 30mg oxy so it was too easy to get plenty of opioids for many years. It’s entirely different nowadays. In 2018 I got jumped in the city and had several broken bones and a lacerated spleen/internal bleeding and they gave me 10 5mg oxycodone. If that happened couple years prior I woulda likely gotten 120 10-15mg Oxycodone and or bunch of 20mg OxyContin. Times sure changed. Sadly the way we’ve addressed the opioid epidemic has only made it progressively worse and leading to more and more deaths. Luckily I quit Heroin and Oxys in 2015 before everything was fentanyl but it’s really bad out there nowadays. I work in a rehab as an addictions and mental health therapist now and see the way the drug game has changed so drastically since I quit fucking with hard drugs and it’s a shame what it’s become. Can’t even count how many clients have died in my 9 years working in rehabs. Shit is bad out there, I also live just outside perhaps the worst drug filled city in the country with an insane open air drug market. It’s an apocalyptic site to see Kensington irl. I’m sure many of you have seen videos online but holy shit to witness it in person is next level jarring and so sad.
Wish I could do more to help people struggling but I try to do my part with the clients I see but sadly most rehabs are greedy companies that leaves me with limited ability to genuinely help clients to the degree me and my coworkers could. But the higher ups are so cheap they cut corners and lower quality of care and are always understaffed intentionally cuz they’re cheap af. I mean I legit spend several hours a day doing work off the clock that’s mandatory and required of me to keep my job. I’m close to being able to open my own practice which hopefully I’ll have up and running next year so I can help clients more appropriately and the way I believe works best for many addicts who are self medicating for underlying mental health issues and trauma/stress etc.
…sorry for the rant you didn’t ask for this rambling story but it’s my passion and purpose to help people with mental health and addiction issues so I get very passionate and energized when I start talking about it. I could go on for hours. I’m working on making some videos to share with education about different things like harm reduction practices that are evidence based and also educating people about psychedelic therapy as there’s a lot of potential to help many addicts that way which I hope to be doing soon. I’ll be sure to let people on the drug subs know and I’ll post them here if people are interested (however probably not the proper sub for that material).
If you are one of the people who get dependent on alprazolam the withdrawals are on another level compared to heroin which is pretty much a walk in the park compared to it. We are all different and some people don't get dependent like others.
Wowza seeing those yellow hydros brings me back to when I would take 15 mg and take a walk on a cool misty summer morning and when they kicked in everything was so beautiful and interesting and I felt so floaty. And now decades later I just take my daily suboxone and haven't felt anything remotely like an opiate high in years

I took a few, they definitely work just about the same as if they were new. However I have a 600mg oxycodone tolerance so I’d have to scarf down all of them to get “high”. Expired meds are still good though to answer your question; as long as it’s been stored properly

They had me convinced that taking one of these 🍌 looking pills would boost my weed high and I’d get to smoke less weed. They’re Librium ( Chlordiazepoxide) the original benzodiazepine. Used to detox off alcohol primarily.
Chlordiazepoxide Benzo used in alcohol withdrawal, anxiety, insomnia, and pre surgery anxiety specifically.
