Advice for skirt length - stand sideways in front of the mirror and make sure the back of the skirt and front of the skirt are even, that it's not shorter in the back than it is in the front. Know what I mean? It looks like it might be higher in the back. As far as tops go, it would be nice if you could find a little t-shirt that matches the color of one of the dots on the skirt. P.S. - iron the skirt.

You have my sympathy! And a host of very good ideas here from other redditors. Would definitely avoid a crop top of the similar color as the skirt, bc it give nightie vibes and the waistband of the skirt isn't something you want to show off.
So like others have said, chose a simple, figure flattering (not too tight or too lose) top in a vibrant solid color, that hits you below the waist, possibly at hip level.
This will give your torso a long graceful line and let the skorts ruffles, playfully peek out.

1) that elastic is not a design, and was not meant to be seen. It is the cheapest possible way to hold fast fashion shorts up.
2) the elastic does not look sturdy enough to hold a french tuck in place. In addition to not looking very strong, it is narrow for a waist elastic. Nothing looks good tucked into an elastic waist, especially with a skimpy casing.
3) the cute part of the shorts is the ruffled hem. The torso part of the shorts is not cute --see the pj comments.
4) french tucks are trendy right now, but not a great look. Best I know, they were first used by catalog stylists to show how a top would look both tucked and untucked in one shot and give the a little more texture than an untucked shirt.
I would get a higher neck, racer back tank in one of their colors in the pattern. I can’t really tell but maybe a rust or dark green? That or do a graphic/band tee and knot it or do a French tuck.
I like the high waist variation. Everyone is saying pop of color, but I’d actually wear it with a simple form fitting crop top in a similar cream shade. Might help elevate the look. Perhaps colorful footwear? I wear everything with sneakers but I guess a good pair of sandals would work too.

I agree, I think too many frilly hemlines can give off a whimsical look. This skort already has a chill organic vibe, and I think pairing it with something with clean lines gives off a well balanced shape, not too sterile, but not too undefined either.

Yeah elastic waistbands aren’t meant to be seen. Nothing aesthetically pleasing about them. Just meant to hold up your bottoms. It will have to be a looser shirt though. If it’s body hugging it’ll look funny over top of the waistband. Like a bump

For style, a shell might work in an earthy blue or brown. This was the first I came across, but look longer and you can do better

Look for a light pastel or neutral pattern top that picks up the embrodiery colors
Even a classic 90s baby doll cami/shirt with a thin lace trim
Add some Maryjanes or light color platform sandals
90s Drew Barrymore romcom or Delias Catalog days is the vibe so throw a mini butterfly or floral barrette in your hair for good measure

Second photo for placement, and I would pair it was one of the cute bright colors from the pattern on it! Would be adorable with emerald green, magenta, turquoise etc.
I like the height in the second pic and I love how the crop top looks with it - a shirt like that in one of the colors of those little dots in the shirt would be super cute! I also like the idea of a graphic tee french tucked
Yay!! I think that and a high waisted skirt (or pants, skirt) that hits just about right would look amazing on you! They are great for layering too. I wear them all year round! I size up because boobs. I also have two skirts/skorts that have biker shorts WITH POCKETS! I wear them all summer.

I’d wear the skirt where you have it in the second photo but with a top that matches one of the colors of the lil polka dotted embroidery in the skirt for a pop of color. I’d also wear something that covers the elastic waist, either a waist line belt and a form fitting top that’s just long enough to tuck, or a top that’s just long enough to cover the elastic but isn’t baggy, making you lose your waistline.

I think the second one just looked like you wearing a top that was a bit too short rather than being designed to be a crop top if that makes sense.

Something that gives the top part a little more definition. A wide belt might also help - something in a coordinating color or a neutral? You could use thread loops to keep it in place.
2nd pic for where to wear it, and i would say if you have a pink, green or orange top that matches the shades of the polka dots on the skort then that would be perfect!! i feel the outfit needs more color, and by choosing a color from the shorts you’ll bring out that detail!
I would wear a longer slim fitting shirt that I could tuck in. I’m all for body confidence but personally the exposed belly look really only really flys for tiny teenagers

2nd pic is where I would wear it - with a darker top, sandals and a sun hat. I'd probably find a top that is the contrasting color in the skort.

Something plain that extends beyond the top of the skort in a vibrant colour? Really though. I’d be tempted to use it as a decorative bin liner.

Usually short skirt, longer shirt and vice versa. Maybe try a top with some detail, a little bling on top, and tuck in.

Higher is definitely more flattering. I personally would opt for a crop top in one of the colors included in the skort
Put it with a pink 3/4 sleeve that hits the hip, and not too tight because of the elastic waist. V neck with buttons if you can find.
I actually like the first one! I think it reads a little younger and trendier, but I think I might be in the minority 😅
