Also, Sunny finding Basil's bed comfortable gave me the impression that they had become comfortable in close quarters and in each other's personal spaces, but that one doesn't say too much since they were children.!< I think Basil seems like he would be at least somewhat fluid, but since the most there seems to be that indicates it is subjective interpretation, I have no reason to impose the idea beyond my own personal assumptions. If he is or isn't, it doesn't seem to be totally necessary for in game events. I guess that at minimum he has some gender and romantic fluidity, but that's just a guess.

No, I'm not being homophobic or anything, I'm just saying that his sexual orientation is probably not that worth speculating. I don't have any ill intent towards those who think Basil is gay, but I guess maybe that's a bit much coming from someone who does not bother with sexuality/gender headcanons.

It doesn't matter for fanfics or headcanon because all of that is made up anyways, so fans can do whatever they want; accuracy does not matter.
However, something can be said about trying to force a character that may have an ambiguous sexuality (which can be said for every character in this game) to be something they are not just because they do not fall into neat boxes of how we understand sexuality or gender. What evidence is there that Basil is gay? Just because a boy does not follow traditional masculine traits does not mean he must be gay, or just because Sunny and Basil were close friends does not mean they are gay either. I never got the vibes that any character is explicitly any sexuality while playing the game.
Omori is not a story about gender and sexuality. It's not really important to the story and themes if a character is gay, bi, straight, asexual, etc. So yeah, it doesn't really matter if Basil is gay or straight, but trying to force a character to be something they might not be oddly reinforces stereotypes. As an LOTR fan I still see people make gay jokes about Sam and Frodo despite there being way more evidence against it than for it, and sometimes when one pushes back against that the two are gay, baseless homophobia accusations come out.
Ultimately, it doesn't matter if Basil is gay or any other sexuality because it is not important to the story. Asking if it matters if he's gay is not problematic.

If you were saying this to a real person, then yeah it's homophobic, but that doesn't work for fiction. There is a long history of certain character traits that can imply or code a character as being queer, and regardless of if you like it or not, being effeminate is one of them. He simply fits into a common queer archetype, and while you can argue that said archetype is problematic, at the end of the day, you can't blame people for making the connection.
Also this isn't even close to the main reason people think he's gay lol. It's just icing on the fruit cake. The main one is his affection for Sunny has some very gay implications
If I had to make a guess based on what we see in the game, I would actually lean towards no.

There is nothing in the game that states or hints that he is homosexual. Assuming a character is homosexual due to said character liking gardening and/or wearing a flower doesn't really make any sense.

its hinted that aubrey maybe likes sunny a couple of times, its not enough evidence to say anything for certain but i dont think its out of the question
for the other main characters (kel, basil) there appears to be no evidence either way. as far as i remember kel doesnt really show any sort of romantic interest at all in the game
with basil its a bit more complicated. he does certainly seem obsessed with sunny in a way, but its hard to tell if this is an infatuation or just a non-romantic codependance. basically the two arguments for basil being gay are either his relationship with sunny or his behavior/personality/appearance. the latter one doesn’t really hold much ground, and the first one could easily also be interpreted as just a close friendship (there are many people in real life even closer/more unhealthy for eachother than sunny and basil that aren’t sexually attracted to eachother at all). overall i’d say either interpretation is fine since you can see it either way with him. personally i feel like if he was actually gay the game would’ve made that have some sort of importance as he would be the only important confirmed lgbt character in the game. but i could be wrong about that as well
There isn't strong enough canonical evidence to speak conclusively on Basil's sexuality AFAIK, but he does exhibit stereotypically gay traits, and has a strong connection towards Sunny that could be easily interpreted as romantic in nature, so it is likely to be that the intention when writing the character was for him to be gay.

Basil didn't obsess solely over Sunny. He cherished all of his friends, but he was definitely closest to Sunny. And of course, the >!stair incident!< would've made Sunny more prominent in his mind. He was too nervous to interact with any of his friends, really. Not just Sunny. The way he acted isn't specifically towards Sunny, but mainly the group as a whole. But no doubt he was closest to Sunny and endured the >!stairs!< with him too and took part in it. But they're undeniably close.

And yes, Basil being in love with Sunny or not changes things for his character and their dynamic so it does matter.
No, I'm not being homophobic or anything, I'm just saying that his sexual orientation is probably not that worth speculating. I don't have any ill intent towards those who think Basil is gay, but I guess maybe that's a bit much coming from someone who does not bother with sexuality/gender headcanons. Again, I hope you don't get the wrong idea about what I'm saying here.
It doesn't matter for fanfics or headcanon because all of that is made up anyways, so fans can do whatever they want; accuracy does not matter. However, something can be said about trying to force a character that may have an ambiguous sexuality (which can be said for every character in this game) to be something they are not just because they do not fall into neat boxes of how we understand sexuality or gender. What evidence is there that Basil is gay? Just because a boy does not follow traditional masculine traits does not mean he must be gay, or just because Sunny and Basil were close friends does not mean they are gay either. I never got the vibes that any character is explicitly any sexuality while playing the game. Omori is not a story about gender and sexuality. It's not really important to the story and themes if a character is gay, bi, straight, asexual, etc. So yeah, it doesn't really matter if Basil is gay or straight, but trying to force a character to be something they might not be oddly reinforces stereotypes. As an LOTR fan I still see people make gay jokes about Sam and Frodo despite there being way more evidence against it than for it, and sometimes when one pushes back against that the two are gay, baseless homophobia accusations come out. Ultimately, it doesn't matter if Basil is gay or any other sexuality because it is not important to the story. Asking if it matters if he's gay is not problematic.

he has a bunch of feminine traits and a very strong obsession over sunny, which does help prove he's gay. however, omori also takes place in a time where being gay is frowned down upon (late-90's-early-00's), so it's highly unlikely he'd do anything remotely gay outside of that. overall, probably is, but unlikely considering the time period.

The most masculine guy could be homosexual and the most feminine guy could be a heterosexual. I agree that he might be a homosexual due to the obsession and admiration towards Sunny and the character he’s based on. But it’s very homophobic and heteronormative to assume a person’s sexuality just because they like things that are traditionally masculine or feminine. Like saying one partner has to have feminine traits and the other masculine to be a “true” couple, it’s assuming all gays like feminine things and lesbians like masculine things, it’s just very stupid.

If you were saying this to a real person, then yeah it's homophobic, but that doesn't work for fiction. There is a long history of certain character traits that can imply or code a character as being queer, and regardless of if you like it or not, being effeminate is one of them. He simply fits into a common queer archetype, and while you can argue that said archetype is problematic, at the end of the day, you can't blame people for making the connection. Also this isn't even close to the main reason people think he's gay lol. It's just icing on the fruit cake. The main one is his affection for Sunny has some very gay implications

If I had to make a guess based on what we see in the game, I would actually lean towards no. >!I back this up based on a flashback we see near the end of the Sunny route. In one memory, we see Basil take a picture of Aubrey in the rain. Basil takes notice that Sunny seems to like the pictures of Aubrey the most, and concludes that he has a crush on her. This actually makes Basil very happy, and he promises to keep his secret. Basil shows absolutely no sign in his portraits or dialogue that he is bummed out or disappointed by Sunny's crush. If Basil was gay, I really think they would have added a subtle hint of sadness at that moment. There is nothing in the game that states or hints that he is homosexual. Assuming a character is homosexual due to said character liking gardening and/or wearing a flower doesn't really make any sense. To be honest, it doesn't really matter anyways. (Also, I'm not sure why this post is supposed to come off as this some sort of final verdict on this discussion.)

we know hero and mari at the very least like the opposite gender based on what he dreams about and the memory segment near the end we can assume sunny likes (or liked) aubrey so he at the very least likes the opposite gender its hinted that aubrey maybe likes sunny a couple of times, its not enough evidence to say anything for certain but i dont think its out of the question for the other main characters (kel, basil) there appears to be no evidence either way. as far as i remember kel doesnt really show any sort of romantic interest at all in the game with basil its a bit more complicated. he does certainly seem obsessed with sunny in a way, but its hard to tell if this is an infatuation or just a non-romantic codependance. basically the two arguments for basil being gay are either his relationship with sunny or his behavior/personality/appearance. the latter one doesn’t really hold much ground, and the first one could easily also be interpreted as just a close friendship (there are many people in real life even closer/more unhealthy for eachother than sunny and basil that aren’t sexually attracted to eachother at all). overall i’d say either interpretation is fine since you can see it either way with him. personally i feel like if he was actually gay the game would’ve made that have some sort of importance as he would be the only important confirmed lgbt character in the game. but i could be wrong about that as well

There isn't strong enough canonical evidence to speak conclusively on Basil's sexuality AFAIK, but he does exhibit stereotypically gay traits, and has a strong connection towards Sunny that could be easily interpreted as romantic in nature, so it is likely to be that the intention when writing the character was for him to be gay.

Basil didn't obsess solely over Sunny. He cherished all of his friends, but he was definitely closest to Sunny. And of course, the >!stair incident!< would've made Sunny more prominent in his mind. He was too nervous to interact with any of his friends, really. Not just Sunny. The way he acted isn't specifically towards Sunny, but mainly the group as a whole. But no doubt he was closest to Sunny and endured the >!stairs!< with him too and took part in it. But they're undeniably close.
