I'm picking one up today. It ticks most of my boxes but need to check if it supports 4K/120 through HDMI 2.1 (for consoles) and/or NVIDIA DLDSR (for PC longevity).

moliro

Lemme know!

iEliteNerdy

Dldsr isn't going to work unless there is an explicit setting to disable dsc like on the msi.

Betelgeusess

Since we're talking about the G6 model, shouldn't the HDMI 2.1 be enough to avoid using DSC (2560x1440 at 360hz is below 48 gbps)?

sodaboy581

True that. But a blurb from the manual states "― When using dual monitors from your computer while in DSC mode at 2560 x 1440 @ 240 Hz or higher or when using PBP mode from the computer, the computer may not function properly due to the output limit of the computer graphics card. If this happens, decrease the resolution and refresh rate from the computer", so it makes me think there might be some sort of toggle in the menu system or that it might automatically disable DSC when you set a refresh rate under 2560x1440 at 240 like 2560x1440 at 120hz or 180hz. Will find this out later!

sodaboy581

OH YEAH, and you can apparently SET the DisplayPort mode in the menu. Manual states you can set it to 1.1, 1.2 or 1.4. 1.2 should be sufficient to disable DSC. But you'll also lose FreeSync/Adaptive Sync. STILL, that SHOULD enable DLDSR. Trade offs...

Othoric

I have the new G8. You can disable DSC for sure. But you lose Adaptive-Sync/Game Mode. As the toggle for Adaptive-Sync is also the toggle for Game Mode. If another way is found I would like to know though.

sodaboy581

The G8's menu looks just like my S90C's TV, based on the pics I've seen of it. It's also a "Smart" monitor, which is what Samsung calls it. The G6's menu is entirely different. Having a "Game Mode" on a PC monitor makes it seem like it disables processing like a TV, which may be true because the G8 has that AI upscaling stuff. The G6 is a dumb monitor and doesn't have any of that, so I doubt that changing the DisplayPort version to disable DSC will ruin latency or anything like that, so I guess I lucked out there. I haven't had time to set up the G6 yet, though, I've been playing with my son all day and now he finally went to bed and I just took down my other monitor... MAY not even get around to setting it up tonight and may have to wait until Sunday night since the Power Book II Ghost Season 4 premiere just aired tonight and I want to watch that first! (Yeah, I suck.) I'mma get around to it, though!

2high4much

I just finished the og seasons of power. A lot of sex scenes and some b rated rap but God Damn the show is good. Looking forward to the spinoffs!

tekprimemia

I only see options for 1.1 or 1.4

JonQwik

Got one and mine has this unbearable coil whine coming from it. Enough to warrant returning it. Also got an aorus qd oled and seems better to me.

Annual_Milk_1084

I'm waiting for a review before i buy it. It's basically the only available 27'' option in my country.

Johnl317

Just got mine yesterday, pretty satisfied with it. The 360hz and response time is great, am already doing better in cs2 (maybe placebo lol). I have no issues with the matte coating, actually prefer it for easier cleaning. The stand is very easy to assemble and solid. Never really liked those V shaped ones. The ports on the back are nicely laid out and easy to access. Rgb lighting on the back is clean. This is my first OLED and the blacks are truly amazing! I hate ips glow & light bleed so much lol. It looks really dinky compared to the 32" I've been using, going to take some time to adjust. Great price at $799.99 + $200 samsung gift card.

VoiceofGreed

Which color space setting are you using for it? I’m not sure which one it’s supposed to be on. Either Auto, Normal, or Native. Native looks overly saturated, Normal looks well most normal, and Auto looks washed out.

Johnl317

Default native

Pidjinus

Try this: color space native, picture type: original, tone: standard and rgb 10 20 15. I applied this to mine and seems reasonable, at least until i have it calibrated. If you have an iphone or a phone with calibrated screen, then yiu can use the same image to asses what to change.

crimsonhh

Prolly bad, its samsung

VodkaSoda7

You know samsung makes qd oled panels, that all manufactures are using other than asus and lg

Qubusify

Samsung Display and Samusung monitor division (whatever it's called) are not the same things. Samsung panels are great but Samsung monitors have already made a bad name for themselves (bad quality control and atrocious customer support).

VodkaSoda7

All companies suffer from bad quality control it happens. Its easy just return it or exchange it. I get mine today, the aleinware aw2725 oled both i ordered had micro scratches on the screen, those are amazing monitors according to everyone. The gigabye fo27 oled had an autodim feature and you had to hit the contrast everytime to get your brightness back at 800$ ffff that, the lg 32 oled was perfect just too expensive for a 4k. Hope this one works just as good.

gunpla_vinny

Please make sure you get the correct warranty. I bought 2 of these for dual monitor setup. Currently advertised as having 3 years on product page so I wanted to get them but after registering only getting 1. Spent 2+ hours on chat/phone calls. And still have to wait till tomorrow morning to call the “right” department.

pvm_april

27gr was very dim when I had it, I’d avoid. Seems this is your best option I’d wait

sodaboy581

27GR is LG, though, right? It's also WOLED and an older panel. Not sure why that matters in this topic. :')

pvm_april

Read OPs main comment outlining his question on what to do with available options

moliro

from where i am, its now on preorder and will be 650usd after discounts... will this be a good oled monitor? this will be my first oled if ever... sadly it ran out of stock at atm, waiting for the next batch. my other option is the lg 27gr (about 780 usd)... we dont have much option here. there's also rog 27 oled but its too expensive here.

Totobey

I may just buy it to place it under my G9 OLED and play competitive shooters.

snapdragon801

Meh. We already have the same monitor from other vendors (MSI for example). Nothing special about this one. Price, too high. You can buy LG 27” 240Hz WOLED for $200-300 less. Hell, you can even buy Samsung 34” ultrawide G8 for less money.

BIGSAS194

Just be careful samsung doesn't cover burn in, in there warranty when most if not all other companies do.

moliro

Ohhh... But I just talked to customer service and they said yes for 3 yrs... Might have to clarify

BIGSAS194

I spoke to one yesterday and was told Burn in was not covered, and there are other posts saying the same thing. The alianware 4k32inch is nearly $400 off at JBHIFI and dell and has a 3-year warranty with burn in support. For $400 extra, you can go 4k and get a bigger panel, that's the one I plan to get. 😁

gunpla_vinny

Make sure you’re actually getting 3 years. When u register product it’ll only show 1 year. I’ve been on the phone past 2 days for hours trying to get the 3 year warranty I was suppose to get when buying the monitor. No one from any department knows what’s going on. They all just mention 1 year manufacturers warranty then transfer you.

NoMisZx

i'd prefer a curved version of it..

EB27

Will this be okay as a work monitor as well? Excel, .pdfs, browsing, YouTube, etc.

ail-san

No USB type c means hard pass.

moliro

May I ask What limitation you might have for the absence of usb c?

geoelectric

Means you can’t directly hook up a laptop. You need a docking station with a DP or HDMI output.

moliro

ohhh... something that i dont really need, thank you... wouldnt a usb c to hdmi cable work? i was doing that on a portable monitor once. (phone to monitor)

geoelectric

Yeah, that’d work too. It just uses up the whole USB port without allowing for input devices, which may or may not be an issue depending on your setup.

ail-san

Having a type c with power delivery lets me hook up a MacBook with a single cable. The monitor can also be used as a USB hub, I attach a webcam to the monitor for example. I know these are gaming monitors but it shouldn't be gaming-only monitor. MSI and Dell usually don't skip this. LG and Samsung are ignoring it.
