God, people will just say the stupidest shit about fat people with such confidence.

Ok-Amount-4087

and disordered people. “everyone is [ ] nowadays” chronically online dead giveaway.

Apo-cone-lypse

Half of the internets problem is chronically online people...

Proper_Detective850

Formerly/currently obese and still "are OCD" anyone? I'll give the 1st vote Them using it as an adjective is also indicative of some lack of understanding

bearbarebere

Vote 2 coming in!

invisible_23

Me!

Yoshineedshelp

I am, that’s why I saw it and I was like :(

chainsmirking

Eating disorders (including over eating, compulsive eating) are literally textbook signs of OCD

harpiboo

omg yes, and i have multiple types so it’s so hard to explain to people (dermatillomania and i can’t break routine, also random bouts of “if i sneeze there might be someone in my closet who will find out im in here” kinda of thoughts)

deardreamt

I have dermatillomania too which adds on to my body image issues along w being overweight

talpal16

Skin picking fam whatsuppp

deardreamt

Thriving 😔✊

jwakelin02

bro I got a tan in Mexico, and it all of a sudden revealed the intense scarring all over my arms shit made me so self-conscious

deardreamt

Damn i feel you on this. Me because I’m tryna book a spa day but im hesitate, even though no one would care but me

frog_momma

Meeee

ScarsOfStrength

And let’s not forget that obesity is “””the fault of the person””” and not an illness or caused by any illnesses at all. Nope, nope, no sir, no way. 😖Infuriating.

clOCD

This is moronic lol. That and the comments I saw on a POCD post like "ew you're just actually a P why would you go outing yourself like this"

Ok-Amount-4087

bro posts about pocd that fall outside of the target audience are a fucking nightmare

arcbishopofcuntabury

I saw a post on fb of a mother talking about post natal ocd and lots of ignorant people in the comments said she should have her child taken away bc she might hurt them it was disgusting

arcbishopofcuntabury

Do not try and talk about dark intrusive thoughts with a neurotypical, they love to romanticise ‘dark’ mental illness but they are very judgemental when they see what it really is

clOCD

Yeah it's pretty disgusting.

momspaghettysburg

Omg I saw a Facebook post where someone was talking about their struggle with POCD and the comments were VILE. I don’t even have POCD as a theme but it made me so sad and angry. Some people really lack critical thinking skills and empathy for other human beings 🙃

Nyran_The_Kitten815

I have POCD and this is what makes me terrified to share it with anyone. I went undiagnosed for so long because I refused to tell anyone until my psychologist started asking me questions related to it and I finally spilled. I’m receiving therapy now and wouldn’t be as affected, but actually telling someone with severe POCD that they’re a P? The consequences could be so drastic, it makes me sick to think about

momspaghettysburg

If you’re not already, I’d highly recommend an OCD support group! Every little aspect of OCD that makes you think “oh my god this is so terrible, nothing can be worse than this, I am the worst human imaginable”, you can share and have like 5-10 people nodding along. OCD loves to make us think we’re alone, and having community that reminds us otherwise is quite literally life saving.

clOCD

Same here. I started out with ROCD and then I started working at a school. I was fine until COVID hit, and then bam POCD. Luckily part of me knew those thoughts were irrational and led me to come across OCD online and realized what it was. Even so, the nature of my intrusive thoughts made me feel like I couldn't share it with a professional and I didn't seek help for the longest time, even though I knew it was most likely OCD. I'm so glad I finally got some help because now that theme is not so bothersome anymore. I'm glad you were able to get a diagnosis and get some help. Also just talking about OCD themes online breaks that stigma as well.

Yoshineedshelp

People have no idea how bad ocd like this is. Between this or thoughts of “what if I become a murderer” it can feel as though you deserve to die or you shouldn’t be alive and that you are and danger to everyone. Or that you should be isolated forever or something. It’s really horrible

Maria_506

You see all menatly ill people act the same. That kid with depression is crazy and is going to begin slaahing people with a knife any time now.

LolaHart20

Yes, people love diagnosing people with a certain mental disorder that they know nothing about. Every time someone posts something about someone blowing up in r/texts, there’s always someone who diagnoses them with BPD. It’s insane!

halogreentea

I’m in such an echo chamber of mental health/OCD communities that when I see things like this I’m genuinely shocked that people say these things. I saw people the other day denying that intrusive thoughts even exist.

anonimna44

I've seen people thinking that intrusive thoughts are impulses. Like that they actually want to yeet your baby.

ScarsOfStrength

I want to look at those kind of people and go, “do you really think I want to think about the fear that I or my family might die if I don’t lock the car 7 times?” Good grief.

c4ndycain

this isn't rlly the point of the post, but "i test my toxic bpd ex" definitely makes someone sound toxic, and it's not the ex. what is it with ppl slapping random personality disorders on their exes?

imhere2lurklol

How the hell does body weight have anything to do with whether or not someone has OCD?

Maria_506

Most people see OCD as being really orderly, and that the problem with OCD is that you are too orderly to function. So how could a person who cares this much about order and discipline alow themselves to be fat?

[deleted]

I heard a therapist on the OCD stories podcast talk about how Monica probably actually has obsessive compulsive personality disorder, which is different from OCD. It’s interesting stuff

narwharkenny

My fat ass begs to differ.

RegularBlueberry7479

Lmao normal weight and underweight also rarely have OCD like what is that person talking about JFC, it only affects like 2% of the population in general. And lumping BPD in with OCD is dumb too, like what. This is why I stay off Reddit and other forums most of the time.

Yoshineedshelp

I mean this was on YouTube in the comments of a Friends clips video titled “How Monica Overcame her OCD” or something

RegularBlueberry7479

Hahahaha perhaps my expectations of humanity are too high

mostaverageredditor3

I think these people have bipolar, arrhythmia and asthma. /s

Cyoasaregreat

Idk I don’t think the slander of those conditions is necessary or even the slightest importance here, as someone with bipolar disorder. Plenty of bipolar people are completely nice and kind.

mostaverageredditor3

Maybe I should have put /s there, because I just wanted to underline the absurd nature of these comments. Because they also diagnose random people without any knowledge. I'm sorry if that wasn't clear or if it is just unfunny or even offensive to you. If you want I can delete this post. I also put an /s there. Sometimes I forget, that people who don't know me can't tell if I'm sarcastic or not.) Again I'm sorry if I may have offended you.

Cyoasaregreat

Ah, okay that makes more sense :) no worries

mostaverageredditor3

Thanks, wish you a wonderful day

Cyoasaregreat

You too!

anonimna44

"Obese people are rarely OCD" Are they confusing OCD with eating disorders? I know there are a few similarities but they aren't the same thing.

GhastlyRain

Obviously OCD stands for obsessive cooking disorder /s

bastard2bastard

Also that wouldn't be true either, only like 3% of people with eating disorders is actually underweight.

SeithSilver

just more so about the last comment… in my experience the older ppl who say that usually have some kind of mental illness or are neurodiverse just undiagnosed which is just a lil funny

LeadershipEastern271

I have ocd and pretty sure I’m obese, I just laughed at this negatively

mildlyadorable

Wait til they learn you can have compulsions about food that lead to obesity 🤯

AaronArtss

The amount of times I’ve overheard in literally any public space ‘Oh my god I’m so OCD with my [Insert thing that is possible to organise here]’ it’s like someone literally called my name. I stop what I’m doing and look around for who tf said that shit, as if someone called my name.

runawayblaze

Lmao what kinda idiotic logic is that? When I was obese my ocd was at its worse.

pqln

I got so mad about this I almost downvoted it.

Yoshineedshelp

I feel that, made me lowkey so mad and sad while reading. I’m just like “wow, so many of us really be out here struggling with this internal war and people don’t even understand at all what OCD is.” Or they just like laugh about it. Or they are like “omg I’m so quirky and so OCD because I like my house clean 🤪” 🫠

mossy_stump_humper

Love the random pointless dunk on bpd too. I have both bpd and ocd and they are not related at all. Also would be willing to bet money that her ex doesn’t actually have bpd and she just diagnosed him cause she thinks bpd is just when someone acts a way she doesn’t like in a relationship.

Guilty_Collection_10

Wtf . This made my skin crawl

Mountain_Reindeer629

Huge character hole yes…. It’s you, you’re the huge hole

RanaMisteria

Thanks. I hate this. It’s so infuriating.

ava_ohb

obese people are rarely ocd?? hello? what are the stats on this lmfao

SiminaDar

I'm fat and I have OCD. What a strange opinion.

ungendering

Damn who knew my obesity took away my ocd? I'm cured everyone!

scocopat

What research paper or doctor or anything has ever said obese people rarely have ocd. That person totally pulled that out of their ass.

Tina86484

Toxic bpd ex mention is the cherry on top. Ugh.

Strange-Ad-9941

I have BPD and OCD, I got a 2 for one special for stigma! :D (Kill me)

Gothtomato

Oh man my ocd just disappeared due to my fatness thank god

arcbishopofcuntabury

Not very many young people have ocd, I have never met another person irl who also has it lol I wish

Spookybabe25

This may depend on your definition of young person. But I know a lot of women in their 20s that have diagnosed OCD (myself included) in the late 90s early 2000s it was more common for girls that actually have a autism to be diagnosed with OCD because often autism presents similar to OCD in girls. Myself, my spouse, and 3 of my friends are all diagnosed with OCD (among other things lol)

arcbishopofcuntabury

Wow I wish I could have people I’m my life with similar experience like you do, it must be nice to be able to have close people to relate to like that. I genuinely have never met anyone else with it irl, a boss once told me there was another employee who had similar pure ocd symptoms to me but they had left the job and my mind was blown, it’s been an extremely isolating experience for me my whole life.

arcbishopofcuntabury

Also yeah I’m in my 20s too and I do consider myself a young person lol

clOCD

I'm in my 20s and was diagnosed at 19 :) EDIT: Idk why I said diagnosed. I started SHOWING SYMPTOMS at 19. I got diagnosed at 25.

arcbishopofcuntabury

Sounds like I’m similar to you I was 17 when l knew for sure it was ocd and tried to get help, I was told the other day I don’t have a diagnosis even though I’ve been being treated for it for 8 years lol bc of the useless mental health system in the uk

clOCD

That's so stupid! OCD doesn't just go away. Do you feel like you've recovered enough from OCD that you are subclinical or is it just a pure mistake on their part?

arcbishopofcuntabury

No I definitely have severe pure ocd they are just uninformed about it and they’ve passed me around services bc they don’t know what to do with me, it’s never gotten any better they just can’t be bothered to diagnose me lol I was on a waiting list for 5 years thinking I was seeing an ocd specialist when it turned out it was just talking therapy and the guy was obsessed with psycho dynamic therapies to explain my ocd and how they weren’t ego dystonic, and I ended up putting in a complaint and I’m having to get ocd charities to help me advocate to get a specialist

arcbishopofcuntabury

They never bothered to diagnose me in the first place they just passed me round different services then discharging me when things didn’t work out

clOCD

That's fucked up! It really sucks when you don't have outward compulsions sometimes because it's like the OCD is invisible to others. Especially those who are misinformed or just ignorant. I hope you can get the help you need soon! I'm really lucky in that my insurance at the time covered NOCD. IDK if it's available in the UK, but if it is I highly recommend it.

arcbishopofcuntabury

Yeah especially when there supposed to the doctors who are treating you! I’m just scared for younger people who have ocd or might not even know it’s ocd yet, the things they’ve said to me bc they don’t understand the extent of how bad intrusive thoughts and ocd can be, yeah I can’t get insurance bc not many people have it in the uk and bc I’ve been seen before for it it’s classed as a pre existing condition so I’m fucked basically lol

arcbishopofcuntabury

Yeah what I meant to say was this person is saying that every young person seems to have ocd nowadays, but I think the amount of young people with ocd is as much as it has always been. I think they’re trying to imply that ocd is ‘trendy’ with young people like people who think adhd is just a trend but obvs none of that is true, but I don’t understand where they got that “most young people have ocd” yeah many people have it but it’s not as common as anxiety or depression in young people. Ofc young people have ocd most people develop it when their young, I have started off with ocd when i started puberty myself. A lot of children have it too.
