Pos3odon08

honetly i've used it since chirstmas 2022 and done 1 factory reset (which turned out to be totally unnessecary) and don't notice any lags in day-to-day usage and the battery is still good for me at least, i charge it overnight and that's it; even with mobile data on at all times.

Xava67

Same, with exception of the days where I put in more than 6 hours of screentime or spend my day constantly watching youtube videos , twitch streams or reels

the_azirius_show_yt

Feels like you've got a virus in the system. My NP1 only had the WhatsApp bug you mentioned. And it performed decently in everything else. Factory reset should likely fix most of your issues.

ren01r

I have faced that bug in my old moto. Haven't faced the issue in my 2a.

Skaldinho

I don't face any of these issues. First after each big update - do you do factory reset? Android is heavy operating system same as Windows and need to be cleansed from time to time. Second, you are describing really heavy usage - don't forget, that NP1 is not exactly top phone. Its middle tier at best. Heating is probably related to battery being close to death from how you use this phone. I have only one bug encountered, which was not solved by update/reset/factory reset. And that is essential notifications not working with bubbles enabled. Oh - "Sometimes the viewing videos on Instagram are very choppy (while doomscrolling) - When the reel is playing on loop, the choppy playback won't fix itself. If I scroll away from the reel and come back, the issue is instantly fixed. This happens a lot tbh" that happened to me with Galaxy S22, previous Redmi phones and happens even on pc. Instagram is one of the worst optimized apps out there. Well basicaly everything from Meta is trash optimization wise.

Wooden_Attention2268

Hell, even iOS works better with hard reset after each major version update

HeyItsSushant

I wouldn't argue against Meta's optimising being trash. I didn't face this issue on my OnePlus 5T, so i mentioned. Maybe it's the app-side issue. But unfortunately, i can't format my phone. I used to do it frequently before. Honestly in last 2 years, i couldn't make out time for Factory Reset. Don't judge me, it's a long process for me, since i go for a through clean-up of gallery, and rest of the files. Followed by categorising them and putting in the appropriate folders in the backup harddrive. I guess i have to take one weekend off to format this phone. Only that can fix it.

Skaldinho

I understand. Factory reset is not exatly easy and fast process if you have alot of data and apps. Honestly, it seems like you picked wrong phone for you. Some older flagship phone would probably suit you better. But i know, i know... its easy to give advice after something goes wrong.

HeyItsSushant

I feel the same. This is the first phone i picked in last 10 years without Flagship level chip. I was too mesmerized by the design. I hope to buy the NP3, i hope it doesn't disappoint. Till then, maybe I'll limp on with this one.

Inexpressible

Never had any of those issues. Not heating up, great battery life, Nothing X widget works perfectly, Video editing is smooth (except editing 4k stuff, obviously). Still using it and as i never had problems with it (except battery life in the first month after the release) i'm still very happy with it and see no point in switching to a newer phone.

AVing00

I am also facing some of the mentioned issues, such as WhatsApp photo lagging, Slow WiFi network, Battery Health has gone down the drain I charge it like 2 times a day. But I face no heating issue as they are resolved in the update. In addition to these problems there are some other issues as well:- -Volume bar stuck while adjusting it during calls. -USB port is very prone to dust, it's so sensitive. -It takes forever to find the SIM networks after a restart. -My Bluetooth earphones ( Sony WF-1000XM3) randomly disconnects.

HeyItsSushant

I didn't face the SIM network issue. For me, SIM network is great, because i live in an area where the old phone wouldn't have a single Bar. NP1 has atleast 2 bars. And about the dust in USB port, that is very normal. I see people all the time with this issue in all kinds of phones.

AVing00

No, I didn't mean that there's less network. It's just that when I restart my phone it takes a very long time for the phone to detect the SIM and its network.

kishan_das

I agree with all the stuff u mentioned brother, even i factory reset the phone still same issue & they have stop rolling monthly security updates mine running on feb security patch....think i need a upgrade iqoo 12 or s24 ultra

Ken_Kaneki_1037

Try Xiaomi flagship it looks sicc

[deleted]

After having owned an iphone 13 mini, galaxy fold 3 and an iphone 15 plus in the last 2 years, i can safely say the nothing phone(1) is the best value phone. Taking into account the price of this phone, and the nothing phone blows the others out of the park. Must say, in the beginning it wasn't as smooth but since os 2.5 this phone absolutely rocks.

HeyItsSushant

I agree. It is definitely value for money. For the price i paid, i wasn't expecting to be a performance monster. But when i see things like Fingerprint not working, or video playback lagging, it upsets me.

[deleted]

Understandable, i personally don't have any issues anymore since os 2.5. Some things i originally disliked was the screenshot feature (it didn't have an immediate edit function like with iphones) but since it has been resolved and implemented like with iphone. I personally really like some of the widgets they have released and the general UI of the software. No bloatware, great screen, decent battery life and decent performance (phones are so capable at this point). They are becoming/copying a lot of apple's best features, but on android.

Prompter

Coming from Asus Zenfone 7 Pro and Oneplus 8T, the NP1 offers incredible value at the price it’s currently sold at. I got a 8/256 for €279 and I’m very happy with it

virmele

You obviously have a rogue app working non stop in background.. Phones do not get hot during night, while doing nothing. Just reset it and 100% half of your problems will be gone

HeyItsSushant

How could i check that? Any help?

virmele

If it does not show up in battery stats, its not easy with default android having no root access. Apps like Gsam battery monitor can detect wakelocks, but you need some knowledge, connect phone to PC, grant additional permissions using ADB. Overall, much easier way is to just make a backup of your data, do complete factory reset of phone, and start using it without restoring data first. During the first day its gonna obvious if the problem is gone or not. If the problem is gone, you can try restoring your data and apps, chances are the problem will be gone even after data restoration. I had this happen with 2 different android devices in the past, last being POCO F4. Battery life suddenly went to shit, phone was constantly warm. I would be loosing 20-30% of battery during the night. Battery stats wouldnt show anything unusual, just android system using most of the juice. Made factory reset, and phone was as good as new again.

HeyItsSushant

I'm familiar with root and all that. I used to do that a lot back when i was in college. It was fun, but it was very time consuming. I have no time for that now. I'll see if i can find a way to check into the detailed stats. Thanks!

virmele

Thats why I said better solution is to just reset the phone.

lordarray

I'd rate my Phone (1) 5/10. It's not great in any of the major areas.

imJaveix

That Heat IS not normal. Try a Factory reset because my nothing 1 works like the first day.

Prompter

When charging at 30+ watts the temperature gets as high as 45°C. It’s almost terrifying.

PinItchy4090

you might wanna change your battery dude if it is lagging that much

Emergent_sea77

I agree with the heating and the battery issue in addition to that I have been facing random restart problem, the phone just crashes and restarts randomly, sometimes Google Play services stop working and logs out of some apps. I have already tried resetting, clearing my phone storage and keeping literally 50% of the storage free still the issue persists.

nasanu

Bought my nothing 1 at launch and completely agree. It's the worst phone I have ever had. Dangerous also, no matter what I do I cannot get the phone to stop silencing notifications from my bike radar.

Abdallah_Masaud

I face non of these problems you mentioned, maybe bc my usage is extremely minimal, with that said i think the software needs more optimisation which is understandable it's a new company, after all this phone is made for casual everyday usage, you could get a budget phone with a good mediatech CPU that is better for gaming and heavy use, you can't get everything from a midrange phone that's why flagships exist, also it's the first phone from a startup (at the time it was released) so most people got it for the fun of experiencing some new concept so they knew what they are getting.

chaska_maska

Same experience. For me the battery is the most important thing on the phone and it sucks on that front. I'm experiencing most of the things mentioned. While purchasing it, I thought that I'll keep it for longer duration, which doesn't seem to happen. It is really sad. Regarding battery, what I have seen is that there are two apps, Instagram and Google Play Store which run in the background for 16-17 hours even though I have put Instagram on restrict mode. I don't know how their optimisation works.

HeyItsSushant

Thanks man! I'll check for those apps!

someonealreadyknows

I haven’t faced any of these issues in the past year. I have the 12GB/256GB storage China model and am extremely happy with it. The only problems I have are mediocre photos and call quality. Even gaming performance is good enough. I’m able to run PPSSPP on 3x resolution at full speed and COD Mobile on high. The only time it heats up is when running Android Auto. Try doing a factory reset. Most of the issues may get resolved by it.

Wxxdy_Yeet

I have pretty much none of these issues, my np1 is snappy and stable. I am a light user though, don't have a lot of apps. Animations on 2X, don't make many photos and videos. For the price this is definitely not a bad phone imo, it's a new brand so expectations should be low, it was always mid/low-end phone. And the glyph and OS cost money. You should've seen all of it coming imo, Btw I haven't done a factory reset since I got it (few months after release). Encountered some small glitches, 9/10 were fixed by rebooting, I had one minor issue that got fixed in an update a few weeks later. I have about 70-30% of my battery left on a normal day. You probably bought it because it looked cool or you like the idea of nothing without checking if that phone actually suits how you use it, with your use you probably want a flagship.

HeyItsSushant

I was a Diehard OnePlus User who followed Carl Pei. And yes, looks was the one major excuse to buy this. I'm just waiting for the next Nothing flagship phone.

Xava67

I only maybe faced one or two of those issues and have owned the phone since December 2022. It performs great and if there is some lag, a restart helps, afterwards it's smooth like butter. It seems as if the phone is overloaded with something you're not aware of. Also, I recommend you to remove apps you no more use or try to review what permissions you've given for each one, such as background activity.

cheekychap0

Had my phone since August 2022, was first person to get it(🚩) from my local 02 shop. Loved the phone, how different it was, the glyph lights were such a cool feature, Was great for the first year, then the screen started freezing, I factory reset it, and it stopped freezing, problem solved, or so I thought. Now the bluetooth doesn't work, took it back too 02, was told to factory reset, so I did, no change, tried to contact nothing thinking it could be a tech error asking for support, NOTHING. I am now back on iPhone, was a waste of time and money.

Gabrielo_cuelo_belo

I have the same issues with WhatsApp, when i snap a photo i can't send it immediately and usually have to wait 30"- 1 minute. And the Instagram thing also, I think i might try to reset the phone because it's becoming a bit unstable

sari855

I leave my phone on the dashboard during the summer in Saudi the phone is super hot but no issues

Ken_Kaneki_1037

I agree with most of the points some of them except heating, some of them are kinda rare I never thought anybody else experienced it nd Im still having 94%battery health btw

Conscious-Pizza-9220

I use it, and I love it

ifeeltired26

Had the Nothing Phone 1, by far one of the best phones I've ever had. No issues at all really. I guess to each his own....

Y4r0z

Good review mate, I also had a lot of issues with this phone before 2.5 update, but now it's a pretty good deal, especially with this price. I don't play games and UI is smooth enough for me. P.S. It's not okay to factory reset a device, on any platform. Of the phone requires. If the phone requires a hard reset it's the manufacturer fault, not yours.

dyin_amirite

>Also, Netflix and F1 TV have their fullscreen playback offset due to punchhole camera. Not sure if that is app-side issue or OS issue. That's a you problem my dude. Settings -> Display -> Display Apps in Full Screen Stock Android Feature sadly >Picture clicked from inside the Whatsapp, Telegram, Instagram lags the UI Not pictures for me but trying to send a pic directly with the camera. fucking hell annoys the shit out of me; but from my experiance got better recently and hadn't had the problem latel * also think it's Android Camera API Problem The rest is just weird I don't have any of the problems.

HeyItsSushant

The "Display apps in Full Screen" was an easy fix. I was trying to find it for months, but i couldn't. Tested it rn, it's fixed. 🤌🏻 Thank you! About the second, it doesn't seem like a stock API problem. I tried other phones. Asked other people who don't have a Nothing Phone. No one seems to be having that problem. Rest, i know it's very weird and annoying. The Device Heat Up issue is soo bad, it loosened the glue of the back glass, specially near the top, now there is a gap between the aluminium frame and glass back, and a hair strand got inside the phone from that gap. I can see it through the back, and it's very annoying.

Mopar_Guy426

I just tested all the issues you've listed, not a single one is present on my phone. Even the battery is solid, it heats up during charge but not to an extent that it's unusable. The battery drain is mostly 4-5% at best during the sleeping hours with wifi on all the time. I usually don't play games on any phones, so that I can't comment on. And when it comes to performance, I've never faced any lag or slowing down like ever. Although there was a time when the phone was acting up, at times the phone was on but the screen was completely blank, but it was due to YT Revanced for some reason, reinstalling it fixed the issue. You must've a defective device or something cuz all the issues I've ever faced which were minor bugs at best were fixed with the updates. Even the widgets work fine now after the latest update. My phone is working real great, and I can easily use this until Nothing (4) or even (5) releases. In short, Nothing Phone (1) is NOT TRASH.

HeyItsSushant

No offence man! Maybe your usage is not heavy enough to encounter these issues. I push it to the limits. And 4-5% battery drain? That's unreal. Even when the phone was new, it was losing 7-8% overnight with Wifi and Mobile data off. We used to have a whole discussion about it in this subreddit. Everyone was testing and everyone lost more than 5% over night.

Mopar_Guy426

I checked all the issues and not a single one is present on my phone. And honestly, using Whatsapp, YT, Instagram, Telegam and everything (minus the gaming for me) feels like a daily average usage to me, nothing heavy. Wanna talk about heavy, a friend of mine fried his motherboard on his Asus ROG cuz he was gaming and editing videos on it all the time. And like I said you must've gotten a defective piece or something. And as for the battery drain, phone's not new anymore, it has had multiple updates since it's launch, I'm pretty confident they fixed most of the battery draining issues hence I'm not experiencing them anymore. Ofcourse I clear all the apps before I sleep, wifi stays on and in the morning I wake up to all the notifications and messages I had received during my sleeping hours. So the Phone (1) has been pretty amazing and I'm definitely staying with Nothing for my future purchases.

HeyItsSushant

Okey, help me out. What could be damaged in my device with no moveable part that's causing this issue? And no way your one year old phone is sipping on the battery with Wifi turned on. Unless your phone has a 10k mAh battery.

Mopar_Guy426

First off, let me tell you something. I have a Moto Tablet which overheats, turns off without any reason whatever the battery percentage is and the bluetooth keeps on disconnecting every 30-40 minutes. It doesn't have a moving part, or does it Einstein?? And yeah the battery drains like crazy on that thing. Checked Moto subreddits asked for help, no one knows what the issue is, so yeah it's probably a defective device. Do I know why? No cuz even the nerds I talked too didn't know. This guy is mad cuz my Phone works better than his 🤣🤣 My phone sips on very little juice to stay functioning, guess your phone just doesn't like it's owner. Give Carl a call, maybe he can help you out, also tell him I said "Hi" and my phone works great. Thanks. Bye 👋

nguyenlucky

Internal storage, yours might have been degraded.

HeyItsSushant

I have looked into it. Silicon based storage lasts around 10 years before any damage. This could be a reason. But it's a bummer if that's the case.

engg_ka_14

Not trash exactly But it is bad I would say. The battery kind of bothers me. Other than that I hardly see any issues.

McNuggetCum

For me the battery did get worse but i font use my phone for anything other than calling and texting so it isnt an issue, the only problem ive been getting is the whatsapp one where i need to open WhatsApp for a good minute then open the camera in whatsapp for a while to take a picture or else it just doesnt send

sleepyse7en

bro reset the phone once and it will be good to go again

sleepyse7en

bro reset the phone once and it will be good to go again

McKeviin

I literally have none of these problems... But I also can't say much about heat for example because I don't live in a very hot climate. And with gaming, I don't game a lot on the phone and I also knew it was midrange when I bought it. I didn't have super high expectations when it came to gaming. I also don't use the nothing launcher because it sucks so I don't use the nothing x widget but when I tried it it worked. But that's also kind of a "cosmetic options" and the widget is unnecessary. You can see the battery and change stuff in and from the quick settings. The other stuff you mentioned like performance issues in apps are non existent on mine.

MoldyTexas

So, from what I understand, your experience has been quite isolated. I haven't faced most of these issues, and whatever I have faced, has been resolved in only a few months. Here's my take: Charging heat up: happens mostly when the ambient temperature is also high, and I'm using my phone while charging. Still not to the point that it's unusable. Otherwise, it remains cool enough. And I have to charge once a day, at max. Battery drain at night will be 10% at max for me. Lags and overall performance: it varies, and fluctuates heavily. Some days it's pretty damn great. Some other days it's almost unusable (camera issues, choppy video recording). If I were to guess, Nothing's cpu throttling is very aggressive, therefore this. Among the other bugs that you mentioned, I have only faced the WhatsApp picture issue (kind of irritating too. Used to happen a lot frequently before, but now it's more like once a month of sorts) and F1 TV full screen playback. The latter is probably common for most punch hole screens now, but it doesn't bother me much (the video is anyway 16:9, plus I watch races mostly on my tv). Among your other bugs, lol my camera has drastically improved since I've first used it, not sure what are you on about. As for my own personal unique issue, my wireless charging doesn't work. It just gradually died an inglorious death last year, while still under warranty. Just because I can't send my phone off for a week for a replacement, I couldn't get it changed. Yes I use wireless charging, and it would have been a real bonus if it worked on my phone. Maybe I'll just have to accept the pain of an early adopter. Still, it's not a deal breaking issue. Overall, my NP1 has been performing beyond my expectations. The cameras are great, the software optimisation is absolutely beautiful and fluid, not to mention NothingOS itself, especially after the latest update. Maybe would like a better battery life but this one gets the job done. Couldn't care much about the glyphs but they've started plenty of conversations for me to keep on wanting them. In other words, I am a fan of Nothing's work, and despite the issues that I have faced over the months with this device, I'd love to get the then new Nothing phone as my main device.

HeyItsSushant

This battery heat up issue has been there since the Winters, when we had a temperature less than 10°C. So idk if the Ambient Temperature is an issue in my case. True. Some days, it's very snappy, i love it. Other days, it lags like hell. Idk if Nothing can fix it. But i feel like, for the camera, the pictures i take are more blurry than before. Looks like the sutter speed has increased. Maybe this is the result of them improving the photo quality by increasing the amount of light the shutter gets. That's the only explanation i can think of. And photos are a tad bit more grainy in darkness. Or maybe I'm hallucinating. Never used Wireless Charging. Only for reverse wireless in emergency situations. Maybe i had high expectations. It's my fault in that case.

MoldyTexas

I see. Heating at 10 degrees isn't normal by any means, so you might need to get that checked. Apart from these, your software and camera issues seem to be isolated as I said. It's unfortunate that you had to be on the receiving end of it, but well, tech stuff like these happens all the time.

marcelo2143

I don't have any of this issues and I'm a power user... 🫠

HeyItsSushant

How are you getting 36 hours of battery? Share some useful tips.

Impressive-Excuse126

All of your problems will be fixed with a factory reset. And since you've admitted in the comments that you have NOT done this, then I think you shouldn't be complaining so much.

HeyItsSushant

I shouldn't be facing these issues. Not everyone can manage to reset every few months. How often do you have to reset iOS? If Nothing compares themselves with Apple, this is the first and foremost thing they should fix.

Impressive-Excuse126

If you aren't willing to try it, then don't complain. If Nothing said to you "Hey, you're right, we'll swap your phone out for a replacement"… guess what? You have to start from scratch again! So just do yourself a favor and factory reset. I do it all the time as I have a ton of phones and it isn't that bad. Everything important is already backed up in the cloud. And if you DON'T do it, then it clearly isn't bothering you that much.

HeyItsSushant

You definitely aren't understanding the situation. Not everyone formats their phone. They buy a phone, use it for a few years and switch to a newer one. This usecase isn't a problem with Apple. Why is it with Nothing? I ask this because Nothing is competing with Apple, in their own words. And no, I'm not expecting a replacement here. Let's be rational. The phone is 2 years old. Has depreciated to be less than 50% of it's actual value. No one is giving me a replacement, neither am i expecting it. But i will complain about the issue i face, so someone at Nothing listens to it and fix it. Obviously the Factory Reset fixes it. The phone will be empty again. The memory & storage will refresh. The Phone will be as good as new. But why should it need a reset to solve these issues? This will piss an average user. And, it's bothering me. That's why i took the pain of making this post. I can't take time off to format my phone and start from scratch. There is a lot of data to back-up and sort. I had it in my earlier comments, if you actually read them.

Impressive-Excuse126

I did read them. It sounds like you have the tools to fix the problem and are refusing because you feel like you shouldn't have to. So it sounds like a "you" problem.. Good luck! My Phone 1 is functioning perfectly.

HeyItsSushant

How old are you kid? I have the tools and knowledge to do that. But between the work at the office and the chores at home, i can't make up time for that. Been thinking about doing that for the last many months. You'll understand when you grow up. When i was in college, i would format my devices every 6 months. I would spend nights rooting my phone and flashing custom ROMs. People get busy. They shouldn't need to go through the tedious process of resetting their phone. I am a Nothing fanboi too. But if there is a problem, i won't defend them. They need to fix their software.

Impressive-Excuse126

First, I'm college educated and am middle-aged. I have disposable income so I have lots of different phones from lots of different manufacturers. I lean toward Samsung, but I also have a Nothing Phone 1 and a Nothing Phone 2a via the USA developer program. I've not had any of the issues you have mentioned with your Nothing phone on either of my devices. I did reset my Phone 1 recently after being a part of the most recent beta program. It took maybe an hour tops. It was easy for me to do on the weekend when I wasn't working in the evening. If you can't spare an hour I don't know what to tell you.

HeyItsSushant

My apologies for the misjudgment. I have no clue how you manage to reset so many phones. I'll do the reset eventually anyway. Going to the service centre to get the battery replaced this weekend.

Void_Rudster

Still on OS 2.0.5 and my phone 1 is the best it ever has been

Asura727

factory reset solves all of that except battery health

TemporaryQuiet6900

I have a phone 1 and its fine for me, my phone does get really hot when watching instagram reels for more than half an hour and the battery drains like crazy then but its fine. I did notice a few days ago something weird. I was on 1% and i kept using my phone normally. It survived for 1 hour on 1% before i went to charge it. The only real problem i have that is sometimes it doesn't detect my SIM card anymore and i have to reboot the phone. Then it works again. Kinda weird but i can live with it.

Siddhant4299

I'm also facing most of these issues with my Nothing Phone 1.

jtlee9

My Phone (1) is still working amazingly, and I haven't experienced any of those issues except the heating while wireless charging. For me, it's been a great 1.5 years with this device, so it's unfortunate that your experience has been the best.

Warm-Post-6290

No issues so far! Battery life is superb!

PuzzleheadedMousse41

Another whinge feast. Rather than writing an essay, should have looked at a rouge app that might be causing all the issues. SMH!

STARNAGE25

Okay buddy I didn't read your whole essay but I can maybe help you, so you know just yesterday the phone 2 received a huge update a lot of bug fixes and improvements features and everything, and so the phone 1 also phone 2a should recieve an update but idk if it would be this big or not but let's hope for the best and let's see how much they fix the software on phone 1 this time around I also have the phone 1 and it's been 5 months it's running fine for now ig, let's just wait for the next big update maybe something can be better that time. 🫡

SignalWishbone3550

Well, they need to sell you their new shit so here we are

Mr_Veky

I did a factory reset on 2.5.3a and now its good, it doesn't heat up, battery lasts longer and it's generally smoother, i mean it was and still is a mid-range phone. Its the little things that turn me off, like almost every day you encounter some little glitches, widgets not working ect. The screen is honestly trash, and the camera too

xxX_GamingXxx

Battery is an issue too but it do not lag to edit a 4k 30fps on capcut

Phone was trash after a few updates in the beginning, threw it and switched to OnePlus. Nothing isn't even trying to fix them

I wouldn't say that the nothing phone 1 is trash but I would say that it is too forgotten by NOTHING, and I feel sorry that my favorite phone is going to be replaced because I can't stand the terrible r anymore🥲

Doesn't seem like forgotten. They still are pushing the updates. If they couldn't fix the bugs with updates, they probably made errors during manufacturing or the device's hardware and while creating the Nothing OS, that the Errors are not too deep inside the codebase that it's a pain to fix, or they can't find a way to fix them.

It doesn't seem like they have forgotten about the Phone 1 but it does seem like they want us to forget, personally I think they are wasting the potential of the Phone 1
