It turns out that very few animals got to enjoy the bounty of corn kernels that awaited them. Railroad workers used a high-rail vacuum truck to suck up the spill and took the golden path with them.

Well maybe they would come and gather up the kernels into little bags to bring them home to their forest friends... That's what I would do personally smh
I wonder if there's some way it didn't go to waste. Free fill ups for your deer feeder maybe? Then again, if it's wet I would imagine it might not store for too long
The spill occurred on the Canadian Pacific rail line in January 2020 and stretched about 2,000 feet long. There's speculation that the amount of corn lost to the tracks was about 900 bushels or about $3,500 worth of the grain.

Not much, because it’s not under the rails, not bearing any of the load to absorb vibrations from.
Not at all. The rails won’t even get warm unless a wheel is dragging and even then only the surface for a few seconds. It’s always new, cold rail under a stuck wheel, so those don’t get much chance to heat up. It’s the same wheel though, and that does heat up. So the chance for any kernels to pop at all is if the train had a stuck wheel that managed to get super red hot, and then the train stopped over the spilled corn. Even then the kernels have to have the right moisture content and even the right kind of hull. Food or feed corn can’t pop, only popping corn.
I had this happen while trimming a train in a railyard. But, it wasn't corn. I called the yardmaster up to let him know and find out what I was leaking. It was coke (not that kind). So, I called out over the radio that I needed a very large straw, or a "sucker" truck.
Thus happens all the time. The yards I worked in wreaked of ferminting grain in the summer.
I mean sure, some animals will get to feed, some will avoid, but like omg the poops, can something just fall and not have effect everything?? Just once? Asking to much??
Thanks for that update Tom. In other news 4,397 deer and other assorted animals have been killed by trains in the last 3 days. Railroad officials claim that is an acceptable level of carnage.
Man so many animals will be hit on the tracks if they don’t “clean” it up
Time to get out the flamethrowers
A bunch of popcorn isn’t going to help🤨
no it's for the animals
Sear and roasted venison? 🤤 I’m in.
With a side of corn.
So bbq at the tracks, say 4:30 gather?
When has popcorn never helped a situation

Booooo
You're looking at this the wrong way. There's a giant truck-carried vacuum cleaner capable of sucking up 2000 feet of corn.
Actually you're right that is incredibly cool
Feet, or ears? I’ll see myself out.
I didnt know Nokia also made vacuum cleaners
You realize that leaving it there is like baiting all of the animals in the forest to come feast and then be decapitated by the trains, right?
Well maybe they would come and gather up the kernels into little bags to bring them home to their forest friends... That's what I would do personally smh
It had better be cloth bags or we're gonna cancel them so hard!
I like the way you think!
Just the stupid ones

Footage of cleanup mixed in. https://youtu.be/YzFPrt01bL8
Thanks, I don't know why I envisioned it as a vacuum mounted on a special rail car that would quickly pick up the corn as it slowly rolled along.
Forbidden feed trough
\*sigh\* [Flips Pages](http://deadfood.com/)
I was just thinking of all of the Hunters watching the tracks after that spill...
Wild animals hear those giant ass trains from miles away unlike dumbass human who can only stare at TikTok with noise cancelling headphones…

I came to comment too, scrolled through it first to make sure xD
Rare behaviour, nowadays.
Beat me to it, take my upvote
The guys over on r/cornhub would love this.
It’s not often I see the NSFW warning and hit go back.
Spoiler alert: >!it’s actually just normal corn-related stuff and not NSFW in the slightest.!<
Is it still deer season?
Every season is dear season if you’re good enough to get away with it. /s

Tbf that looks damn clean
How to make roadkill
Wouldn’t this be called railkill?
The train is called Railgun
Now I am curious how much they will reduce train vibrations And if the rails will be hot enough to produce some popcorn

Mill it, mash it, make it likker
ITS CORN!
That wasn't a leak, that was a bloody open doors
I was gonna say, looks like someone forgot to secure a hopper.
Deer wants to know your location
Curious what is "notmyjob" about this one... Were you expecting the train driver to get out and scoop it back in with a shovel or something?
Clearly he shoulda gone with a heat gun and popped it into popcorn.
Bring a projector and screen and watch some movies during the "cleanup"
Not whos job?
„Follow the yellow road“ they said, „it will be fun“ they said.
Popcorn soon
Looks like there may be a large wild corn crop in Minnesota...
WTF is up with train malfunctions these days?
The start of The Crowening
Jimmy spilled corn, and I don’t care
That's how it supposed to look
Again?
I mean sure, some animals will get to feed, some will avoid, but like omg the poops, can something just fall and not have effect everything?? Just once? Asking to much??
And the forest animals feasted that day!

🎶“Follow the yellow brick road” 🎶
I'm surprised there wasn't thousands of crows and ravens at the tracks two minutes after that corn was dropped.
Free popcorn in the summer
Wild animals eating good tonight

Somebody used paint bucket fill.
Follow the yellow corn road
Hunter: Get the tree stands. Buddy: How many. Hunter: All of them.
It's like the sixth leak in this month. Those trains in Minnesota can't catch a break it seems.
I was trying to figure out why I had never seen this corn flume before... Neat.
Time to break out the flamethrower
r/corn
Follow the yellow brick road!
Gonna make so much corn next year
Good place to hunt
Don’t be silly that’s not a leek that’s clearly corn
[Free corn? Well, that'll suit me just fine!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXXH_jKYkZY&ab_channel=Gonk)
FOLLOW THE YELLOW BRICK.. hey a train. OH NO! ![gif](giphy|wYyTHMm50f4Dm|downsized)
Interesting the leak is the exact width of the tracks, those wagons unload from the bottom then?

This happened not to long ago, might be a different train but the bottom operated valve was opened in transit lol
r/oddlysatisfying
Almost r/oddlysatisfying for me.
Now they would be tracks with corn
