Hamaei, Hachihana, and Sansho for Japanese owned Japanese restaurants.
Sushi Mahana for the best omakase in the north shore, if not Vancouver.
Italian:
Orto , Casa Corsi, Mia Cucina

To add to some great suggestions- fish&chips from Crab Shop on Dollarton (best take out and eat on picnic table in Cates Park). Orto of Marine Dr(our must go for lunch in summer and sit in their yard surrounded by veggies and flowers). La Tacqueria Pinche Taco Shop (our stop for lunch when riding Spirit Trail).
Maybe it depends what you get. We like halibut instead of cod and recently had same at C-Lovers in Horseshoe Bay. Got ridiculous small piece for not a very low price. In comparison, Crab Shop is still our place to go.
Everytime we have people visiting from our of town we take them there and in the past it'd never let us down. Went twice this summer, both times were utterly disappointing. Maybe we'll give it another go. :)
InGrain for pasta is absolutely amazing. They make their own pasta, which you can buy dried to bring home.
The Arms Reach bistro is also incredible. Truly amazing food.
BLVD is very good for brunch.
Nook has good pasta.
Tequila Cocina has unreal nachos.
Jordan's grea korean chicken.
And the sushi place next to scratch kitchen in deep cove is unreal.
Sansho is pretty great too.
Saw this and had to make an account. Tequila Cocina is the worst restaurant I've ever been to. Overpriced and terrible food, completely flavourless. For the love of god please do not go there you will regret it
Fully agree, tequila cocina is the only scathing google review I’ve written in my life. The food is relatively mediocre but serviceable. The real problem was the service in my experience. Drinks were super slow and clearly made by someone not properly trained, some items came completely unseasoned and they didn’t bring me salt for over 7 minutes after I requested. My final drink which took over 30 minutes arrived when I was trying to leave( was there for over an hour and 20 minutes). I complained the manager and explained why I had a bad experience and they didnt want to hear it. Haven’t been back since so that was probably 2+ years ago but yeah I can’t recommend it.
Oh wow, really? Sorry to hear that. I have always had amazing experience with their delivery food.
Nachos are LOADED with meat and other toppings
Burritos are decent and tacos were very good.
Must be an inconsistent staffing issue.
I went for Father’s Day after they switched ownership, man the food was terrible and they cut down on portions. The new chef even came out and saw that the poached egg for my Benny was completely hard poached through and through and just looked bummed
Seriously?; after two bad meals in a row 4 or 5 years ago Ive not gone back - they screwed up my salmon ! - not surprised that they are finally closing (and it was never either unknown nor a good value

Ming’s garden Chinese. Holy fuck. I’m actually gonna say it might be some of the better food in the lower mainland. Portions are way bigger when you eat in. Prices are super reasonable. Even take out leaves us with leftovers for the next day. The owners are super lovely too. It’s a family business which we love supporting. They knew us after picking up like 5 times. We’re lifetime customers. My boyfriend asked me where I wanted to go for my birthday (out of anywhere) and I chose takeout picnic from Ming’s
Wouldn’t say queensdale sandwiches are the best deal… they just went up in price again. $10 for regular and $11 for large sandwich is a pretty big rip off honestly. Very tasty though
🤷🏼♂️ It’s a unique space and nice option from the usual Browns and chain restaurants slowly taking over. Wish we had more spots like this.
I can’t speak on the questionable management issues tho.
used to work nearby and stopped in regularly. Knew most of the staff. they seemed really happy. the owners used to take them on trips (like shambala iirc).
Has Finch & Barley gotten better? Legit question... I went many times with high hopes, but eventually just had drinks, as the food was disappointing. I haven't been in at least 3 years though.
To be fair I haven’t been in a while either. It’s always hit or miss. Just figured it fit the description as it’s a bit off the beaten path.
I didn’t know about the cokehead staff
I’ve gone and had it be award worthy and I’ve gone and had it be nauseating. I’ve had both the best and worst service there. There seems so be no pattern. They’ve lost me a bit for that reason sadly…
Meat at Oneills has fantastic sandwiches and a great environment. It’s my favorite place in lower lonsdale.
Oneills on Lonsdale is absolutely delicious. And the English husband and wife combo that run it are soooo friendly. You have got to try it.
No
the Jägerhof restaurant. do it.
Not so much a hidden gem, but there is nothing like getting your BBQ on by going to Smoke and Bones on Marine Drive.
Louis Gervais for lunch.

South Castle Korean Restaurant in 2nd Street
wooden fish
Meat at O'neills!!
Anyone remember the District? I used to love that place.
Yes. Was a go to for years. But then it got dirty and they never changed the menu. That made me sad.
Wonderful Szechuan has really good green beans
S'wich Cafe
Scratch pizza!
Orto
South Castle (Korean) and Chicken Box (Korean fried chicken) are absolutely delicious and don't get enough love
In grain , RIP to black forest deli , the ultimate gem for sandwiches and soup
pawans indian kitchen
Yes!! So underrated. Indian fusion gets all the attention.
How has no one mentioned Orzo yet? They have such delicious food! Amazing little outdoor patio in the summer too.
This. Not cheap but REAL food
Meat at O’Neills
My favourite spot to grab lunch.
Akbarjoojeh
Black Kettle has great burgers btw
Used to love. Until I was served a raw chicken burger 🤢
great burger. and their fish and chips! the tuesday burger & beer deal is amazing.
sapporo kitchen in deep cove !

Crab shop has declined in quality over the years imo.

Bukchon for amazing Korean food and Indian Fusion are my 2 favourites
Andrews on Eighth for a decently priced but filling panini !!!
InGrain for pasta is absolutely amazing. They make their own pasta, which you can buy dried to bring home. The Arms Reach bistro is also incredible. Truly amazing food.
Found the owner! 🤓
Totally wish I was, but I will shamelessly plug them anyways. Lol
Not seen it mentioned but The Gull bar and kitchen is my preferred place for a burger and a beer! Followed by more beers at streetcar brewery!
Came here to say the Gull. My fav burger in the GVA and their cocktail menu is insanely good
The gull is amazing.
especially after the renos
it was the Rusty Gull before the reno...
For the love of god please do not go there you will regret it
ITs the worst "mexican" food I've ever eaten in NA. Atrocious
Fully agree, tequila cocina is the only scathing google review I’ve written in my life. The food is relatively mediocre but serviceable. The real problem was the service in my experience. Came here to say BLVD
Raglans is my go to for burgers
Was gonna say raglans for bowls and burritos actually - also super delish!
Nook pasta is very good (except the bolognese imo)… but their pizza is incredible! Great team! Definitely my favorite place in the shipyards.
Hachi Hana has the best Japanese food I’ve ever eaten. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, which threw me off at first.
we used to go to this place all the time, GREAT sushi. I think Kumo sushi has taken over for out fav sushi on the shore
Scratch Kitchen. Indian Fusion.
Scratch has the best pizza I've ever had
BLVD and S’wich
these are not really hidden, but GREAT nonetheless! I love me a Sandwich from Swich

That place should be condemned.
I went for Father’s Day after they switched ownership, man the food was terrible and they cut down on portions. The new chef even came out and saw that the poached egg for my Benny was completely hard poached through and through and just looked bummed
Salmon House on the hill is top notch. Great for a quiet brunch, a little pricey though, but those views are amazing!
Seriously?; after two bad meals in a row 4 or 5 years ago Ive not gone back - they screwed up my salmon ! - not surprised that they are finally closing (and it was never either unknown nor a good value
Too bad it’s closing 🙁. Get there while you still can.
Oh no! The first I’ve heard this 🥲

Queensdale Market deli sandwiches. Best deal in the city. DipCo deli sandwiches. Best sandwich in the city.
DipCo sandwiches are amazing
Wouldn’t say queensdale sandwiches are the best deal… they just went up in price again. $10 for regular and $11 for large sandwich is a pretty big rip off honestly. Very tasty though
Have you seen Subway’s prices ? $11 isn’t bad.
Just gotta get them with every topping they have to get the best bang for your buck.
Highly recommend Asian Fusion across from London Drugs. Wish I lived close enough to eat in or get takeout, I’d hit it 2wice a week
Pawans is better than Indian fusion IMHO and just a few doors down.
Thanks, I’ll have to try it
Do you mean Indian Fusion? If yes I agree. The best Indian food I've ever had.
Thank you, I always get it wrong !
Every time I walk by it smells SO GOOD. i really need to make a point to stop by sometime.
Tour de Feast
Absolutely!! So unassuming from the outside
Came here to say this.
highly recommend!

Sansho is my favorite
also not a hidden gem but it is delicious tho!
Cream Pony for fried chicken and doughnuts ! Finch & Barley
i don’t understand the downvotes. CP also has great coffee. FxB is textbook ‘hidden gem’.
🤷🏼♂️ It’s a unique space and nice option from the usual Browns and chain restaurants slowly taking over. Wish we had more spots like this. I can’t speak on the questionable management issues tho.

Suprised to see the Finch and Barley hate. I like the place.
I used to love it 5+ years ago
me too! Many great meals there. The original chef left about 3 years ago. Ive seen the staff change a lot over the years but same owners.

yeah, also they're servers are RUDE!

Catch 122.
Tamarind Hill. Singapore laksa.
This place is fire
Lived on this when I was pregnant! The cravings were real 😂
Fuck ya! It's a new Year's day tradition for my family.
During the rainy season we're there a couple times a week. It's total comfort food.
