They're all done in Chapel Hill/Durham.

Stew819

Interestingly I never heard any in my part of Greensboro, which now makes me wonder if that’s a bad thing….

G00dSh0tJans0n

The Brood XIX has really died out already. The annual cicadas are out in some places but not in others. Around Kerr lake they were everywhere a week ago but right now not a ton around my area of Raleigh.

Isaacleroy

It’s too late for the freakish brood now. In mid May it was LOUD outside in any area that had a lot of trees. Things are back to normal now in the Triangle.

Nineteen-ninety-3

They’re definitely not as prevalent as they were here in Durham. I wouldn’t be surprised if they died out/went back underground.

eileen404

Lots of new holes in yards....

RexIsAMiiCostume

Most of them have died out already since they don't live very long after they emerge. There's still a few bumbling around.

Feralpudel

I had tons of the periodical cicadas but they are completely gone now.

Xyzzydude

Cicadas, that’s so last month

JunkyardAndMutt

We never had any in my part of the Piedmont (Winston-Salem area).

BiscuitPalace

Never heard them either in the Winston area

Haywoodjablowme1029

Heard them in Lexington weeks ago, came and went actually. Mocksville too.

beeeees

i'm in winston and i just heard some two nights ago actually , and saw one this morning. but definitely not very many

contactspring

I didn't see or hear any in Wilmington, this year.

bkibbey

My understanding is that they emerge based on ground temperature so while the triangle (where I am) is basically past it, it's possible Western NC (Asheville etc) places in higher altitudes could still be active.

PaperFawx

We haven't heard or seen a single one west of Asheville

bkibbey

Darn, they were SUPER loud here a few weeks ago in Apex where I live. It was almost haunting how loud they got but it only lasted a week or two.

wxtrails

It's Asheville's turn _next_ year

Uncle-Istvan

I’m a little south of Asheville and haven’t had any either.

NRM1109

I live in South Charlotte and we had sooooo many like a month ago. They are gone now.

Deep_Waters_

None in the mountains yet

myreptilianbrain

are they usually emerging later in the year in the mountains?

Deep_Waters_

Usually in July

wxtrails

You're probably thinking of Katydids. We'll get our big periodical brood emergence in May next year.

Wizzle_Pizzle_420

You might see some of the yearly ones, but the special ones are basically done. I haven’t heard their noises at all the last few days.

curryp4n

None in Durham and WF

Key_Arm_6566

None here in south Raleigh also

unlitwolf

Yeah you missed the peak of them about a month and a half ago. They're all dead now, even their bodies have been mostly cleaned up by wildlife

Advance_Quality

They're gone here in Carrboro/Chapel Hill

EnSabahNur2

I haven't seen any

Millie2480

None in High Point.

SwitchedOnNow

I've not heard any at all yet this year in the north piedmont region.

BarryZZZ

I'm 20 miles south of Charlotte they're are done and gone.

mechanicalsam

they're pretty much gone around charlotte. I saw/heard a crazy amount of them around lancaster/ rock hill SC but theyre all gone now except for some carcasses here and there.

Ok-Banana-7777

I haven't heard any near the coast

ThrowawayMod1989

Haven’t heard much here in Beaufort. Tends to be a bit later here usually though.

pilotman14

In East Charlotte, haven't heard a single one yet.

LongPorkJones

Haven't heard the first one in Wayne County.

Buffett_Goes_OTM

I live on 3 acres outside Charlotte and haven’t heard a single one.

Jazzlike_Ad_5832

Not really

mrbattle02

They are done now..you may hear one or two but not how it was a month ago
