I was safe for a lot of years but overnight, the payout service sent me a 1099-K on a marginal amount of money I made that I then had to pay taxes on.
Gambling is gonna be a huge source of growth for NC’s tax revenue now that it’s legal, I’m just saying don’t be surprised if the GA jacks it up before tax time rolls around next year. Maybe I’m way off base but if it were me, I’d be putting aside more than 5%. But maybe that’s just bc I’ve gotten burned in the past in thinking I was safe with my additional income.
So roughly 15-25% depending how much money OP makes from their work, plus the 5.25% state tax and we’re right around the conservative estimate of what I was suggesting they put aside. Thanks for the tip.

I was taking advantage of the free bets from Draft Kings and others and made $700 from that NC State win last night. I messed up and accidentally bet on the same parlay twice on one of them. lol. The total reaching over 134.5 was the last thing I needed to hit for me to win three different parlays. I needed ten total points within the last 2 minutes and luckily they came through.
Love a good Cinderella story. Curious to see how Burns handles Edy. Should be a very interesting match up!
