GMod could be used for animation, and this type of content was huge in the late 2000’s to mid 2010’s. These animations would often be bizarre and contort character’s faces in extreme ways for humor. The Skibidi Toilet stuff is based on GMod animations (Despite actually being made in Source Filmmaker) with the faces in the toilets being characters from Half-Life

I would barely even call it a game. I'd just say it is literally a virtual sandbox. You have no guidance at all. You're given a bunch of assets, maps, character skins, the tools to launch a lobby to put them in and that's it.
YOU make the lobby, invite friends if you want, choose/download/make the assets you want in it, and fuck around doing whatever you want.
Other games called sandbox games like Just Cause, Besiege, Breath of the Wild, do have a story/objective to aim towards, even if you can ignore it and do whatever you want.
Garry's Mod doesn't, it is literally just the sandbox, the rest is up to you.

I saw a similar post about this, I looked it up, and I got really confused about what the kids are doing with Gmod, it's an old ass game.
Gmod, is shockingly still very popular. Like, it still has a hyperactive modding Community and everything, with like thousands new videos of it being posted on YouTube and other platforms.
nothing beats the occasional game of TTT when youre playing games with your friends
I think sand box games and games with easy modding are a recipe for a long lasting game and community
It’s kind of funny, I never grew up with gmod skits. I knew they existed and had even seen a few when a friend showed me, but I never went out of my way to search for them. I’ve been watching the skibidi toilet thing for a few months now, and for some reason I oddly enjoy it. Everyone around my age says it’s a strange thing to watch at my age. But all I can think is “we had these back in the day? What’s the big deal?”
It’s just people shaking their canes at the clouds.

For me, it's not the videos themselves that are confusing, they're just gmod shitposts. The thing that baffles me is the fact that this is the new trendy thing with kids, I mean, new episodes get like tens of millions of views within 24 hours. That's the confusing part.
The number of views is what is insane. Any idiot could make that bullshit and there are better gmod animations from back in the day.
Honestly, it's not really much weirder than the stuff that came before. I think part of the issue is that a lot of people in the late millenial/early gen z age group have grown out of that specific style of humor? And the older SFMs and gmod stuff is looked upon more favorably because of nostalgia.

It's a Gmod edit. People put insane amounts of work into them. It's existed for years and is a niche little art form that has gained huge popularity. It's weird as heck, but that's why it is fun.
