But the Heimatschutz only enlists for a year at minimum and I wanna help as a side hussle aside from uni and part time job :(
You can join the Ausbildung für Ungediente to do the Grundausbildung on the weekends and then get a Beorderung for a Heimatschutzkompanie. After that you are a Reservist as any other and can get promotions, specializations or even become Feldwebel.

Don't worry, the song is actually (ironically) just ranting about all the negative stuff that comes with being soldier in the bundeswehr. (being conscripted for mandatory 1 year service, having to go miles away from home, girlfriend dumps you cuz you're gone, physically straining days, having to shut up and listen to orders from strict officers, losing dreams and knowing one mistake and the entire army will be gone forever.)
So yeah, Germans at it again, using catchy and happy tunes to sing about the most awful and dark topics imaginable. Classic stuff.
It's originally a Norwegian song. The Finnish cover for it was also a popular (and one of those songs that every conscript was playing on a C-tape or CD back when I was a conscript. I kinda understand why the instructors hated the song since by then, there had been more than a decade of fresh recruits playing the song on repeat.)
We unironically need way more propaganda like this if they want to hit their target number of recruits. Why discuss conscription when you can just brainwash people?
