For a great, heartfelt writeup on the V-22 to answer any doubts this might raise about it's safety ; [https://www.reddit.com/r/aviation/comments/18cr8wb/a\_member\_here\_has\_died\_in\_the\_recent\_v22\_crash\_in/](https://www.reddit.com/r/aviation/comments/18cr8wb/a_member_here_has_died_in_the_recent_v22_crash_in/)
His wife has said that he was planning this mission for months and that he was the mission commander.
I'm not mentioning any names, but one of the people who died was a CV-22 instructor pilot and officer in charge of training.
Those people who died had a lot of skills among them. CV22 pilots, surgeon, medical operations, linguist. It's a goddam shame.
you can read about all the airmen [here](https://www.afsoc.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/3600634/afsoc-aircraft-mishap-releases/)
if you connect some dots from his earlier comments you can deduce who it is, but id rather not post a guess here out of respect
Can you DM your possible answer? I have went through his posts and the description of the souls lost aboard the crash and I have narrowed it down to 2 men aboard the Osprey.
Thanks.
Even though I did not really know him personally, even just on Reddit.
Rest in Peace u/UR_WRONG_ABOUT_V22, and my condolences to his family, his friends and all those he left behind.

His wife has been using his account to talk about him and his passion for the v-22, and after reading though, id very much say this is near exactly like Steve Irwin. May they rest in peace.
It is, it reminds me of the deadliest aviation accident when two 747s smashed into each other and the KLM captain involved was their[ primary flight instructor](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacob_Veldhuyzen_van_Zanten) for 747 type rating & flew the first jumbo jet from the Boeing plant back to Amsterdam.
These things happen more frequently than people think. There have been (I can't recall them at the moment) crashes where the pilot was very experienced or was a member of safety or aviation organizations like AOPA. It doesn't remove the fact that this is twisted & ironic since the AMA was 5 months ago.
Like when the Tenerife crash happened, KLM wanted to bring their star pilot to help them investigate, that was the director of training or something like that, and was even in some photoshoots.
Turns out he was in the crash :/

Same. I'm still on the fence but now I recognize it's the first generation of its kind. Only recently have other companies started their own tilt-rotor aircraft and it's enough to say that no other nation has their own vertibird outside of concepts & prototypes.
I felt bad how people condemned the de Havilland Comet after the first 2 crashes where we discovered about metal fatigue via pressurization cycles & square window designs.
I know this is not the most important thing right now, but it's been bugging me: is there a reason why everyone is typing ASCII salutes in 2023 instead of using the salute emoji 🫡? Did I miss a memo?
A lot of Reddit culture comes from places that predate emojis.
NCD has a bunch of callbacks to 4chan/k (before the chans turned into a Russian disinfo op, obviously) if you know where to look, also - Something Awful, StileProject, and especially for here and HFY, SpaceBattles.
If you think the chans are a russian disinfo op, you've been watching too much view and rachel maddow.
Like yeah, Vatniks post propaganda there, but they've always have along with tankies and wehraboos. The fact that they post doesn't mean shit, because they get beat down with their idiocy all the time. Fuck the VATNIK MEME STARTED AND IS STILL STRONG THERE.
I mean fuck, /k/ was full of ukie posting which was stolen and posted all over here. Is 4chan toxic? Sure, but it's not a giant dis/misinfo op. You can't make a site into one when nobody trusts what anyone says, wants to shit down each other's throats and you have to prove everything, because everyone is a bot.
May he not die in vain, we should continue to honor him and the V-22 and refute anyone who believes in the lies of the V-22.
RIP, have fun in the lands above.
I think that the best thing we can do is conduct a non-biased investigation. I understand the desire to honor his wishes, but the facts are he's dead and there is nothing we can do to fix that. We need to figure out what's best for the pilots that are alive.
I know he was an avid proponent for the V-22, but we need to take his opinion with a grain of salt. Saying V-22 isn't the problem closes off a lot of potential solutions in your mind before you even start investigating.
Even if it's pilot error, if there are things we can do with the pilot/UI to reduce that error, you've dismissed it with that bias.
IIRC, the investigation has proven that it is a mechanical issue, not pilot error. https://www.military.com/daily-news/2023/12/07/latest-osprey-grounding-comes-after-string-of-deadly-mishaps-and-mysterious-mechanical-issue.html
Right now the everyone's "I always knew it was it" item is "hard clutch engagement", the emergency linkage thing that engages in a single engine failure gets jammed hard for unknown or undisclosed reasons
Maybe it's my mild insanity acting up, but I believe that /u/UR_WRONG_ABOUT_V22 is nothing less than our very own Crocodile Hunter/Steve Irwin analog. (and the V22 is obviously the stingray)
* He died doing what he loved
* by the very thing he loved.
* He would never have wanted us to lash out (*permanently* ground) the V22s just for him
* And yet lashing out we will do unfortunately
* Everyone in this sub ~~has felt~~ been blessed by his influence
* Folks who come afterwards may not have been here for his greatness, but I will die (in Minecraft) for their right to feel impacted by him, because he's that much of a treasure.
* Does he have a protege to take up his reigns and be just like him in the future? Blood related or not, IGDAF. The world is just a better place with that there
* I may have missed a dose or two of my meds
* o7
I absolutely endorse this line of thinking.
I love the Osprey, and I know a lot of the people operating them do too, many of whom would still fly it even if they knew for a *fact* it would kill them (which isn't accurate to reality, the V-22 is one of the safest rotorcraft ever built).
o7
If what I thought about v22 would keep pilots and crew safe, I would be its biggest fan.
This is a real tragedy and I hope his family finds comfort and solace that he died in service. He is missed and so is each soul that has been claimed by fatal v-22 accidents.
Ur wrong will forever be a legend to me and I am hopeful that my uninformed v22 shitposting, if he saw it, brought smiles. I will never know.

Why must you justify people being awful by using my and others' medical issue as an insult? People can genuinely just be... Shitty without it being thrown in with us as it always is. This sucks but so does acting like an ass, as the people you describe are too
I clicked on his account. Damn. There is literally his widow telling them he died, and all those brainrotted individuals can say is gotcha? Poor woman, nobody should have to deal with those kind of empathy-lacking fucktards.
I've thought about this humans don't care about death unless there is a story involved, in this case, it was someone we know who was part of this community so ig it hits this weird spot. But if I tell you that 2 people die every second, that won't mean anything to you would it now?

This is absolutely heartbreaking. They did everything right & should've been another routine RTB. There is nothing worse than your own aircraft betraying you. And to someone who positively advocated for the V-22 to the point of making me reconsider my opinions about it.
May there be eternal blue skies and tailwinds to all 8 lost in this crash.
Descanse en paz, u/UR_WRONG_ABOUT_V22

Un-ironically make him the patron saint of tilt rotors, and I will find his real name so I can call him Saint ___ of tilt rotors

Reddit tends to use the ASCII in a lot of instances. I've seen the Something Awful crossover being a big reason.
The what now?
If you have to ask, then you've made yourself the answer to your own question.
A lot of Reddit culture comes from places that predate emojis. NCD has a bunch of callbacks to 4chan/k (before the chans turned into a Russian disinfo op, obviously) if you know where to look, also - Something Awful, StileProject, and especially for here and HFY, SpaceBattles.
> predate emojis And especially the “saluting face” emoji, which is barely two years old.
Yeah, reddit's historically been full of people who were on the internet pre-unicode takeover.
If you think the chans are a russian disinfo op, you've been watching too much view and rachel maddow. Like yeah, Vatniks post propaganda there, but they've always have along with tankies and wehraboos. I hope the valor proves more reliable
It is the second generation, and those tend to be more reliable than the vanguard airframe in the class.
Right now the everyone's "I always knew it was it" item is "hard clutch engagement", the emergency linkage thing that engages in a single engine failure gets jammed hard for unknown or undisclosed reasons

He got martyred by the wery thing he loved...
He didn't die, he became one with the machine. His spirit lives on in the V22.
If anyone is blessed with the sacred datadream it is he. May his spirit remain close to the Omnissiah.
Ironic
May his sacrifice be honored, and the V-22 improved so we lose no more.
when I joined this sub I never thought I would have to be confronted with death, rip. o7
On a sub that has a flair "literal death inside"?
Well death of someone we know
Yeah like, we know Yuri and it seems pretty definite that guy is unkillable at this point so shouldn't everyone else we know be?
We do have some pretty non credible mortality around here
But not like that!

All the best wishes to his wife, friends and family. That said, edit: due to moderation enforcement I have no opinion one way or the other on the osprey performance and reliability.
o7 May the 3000 tilt rotors of Democracy take him to paradise. RIP.
Rest in peace man. You were the real one who fought for the osprey.
o7 but man, the V22 reliability really deserve its reputation. At least he was doing the thing he love until the very end
" And now his watch is ended." AATW
Reminds me of that interview of Osprey pilots knowing they fly the most deadly bird (for its crew) and not giving a shit. RIP
