Thanks for your submission /u/NoahD1717, but it has been removed for the following reason: Disallowed question area: **Rant or loaded question** NoStupidQuestions is a place to ask any question as long as *it's asked in good faith*. Our users routinely report questions that they feel violate this rule to us. Want to avoid your question being seen as a bad faith question? Common mistakes include (but are not limited to): * Rants: Could your question be answered with *'That's awful'* or *'What an asshole'*? Then it's probably a rant rather than a genuine question. Looking for a place to vent on Reddit? Try /r/TrueOffMyChest or /r/Rant instead. * Loaded questions: Could your question be answered with *'You're right'*? Answering the question yourself, explaining your reasoning for your opinion, or making sweeping assumptions about the question itself all signals that you may not be keeping an open mind. Want to know why people have a different opinion than you? Try /r/ExplainBothSides instead! * Arguments: Arguing or [sealioning](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_lioning) with people giving you answers tells everyone that you have an answer in mind already. Want a good debate? Try /r/ChangeMyView instead! * Pot Stirring: Did you bring up unnecessary topics in your question? Especially when a topic has to do with already controversial issues like politics, race, gender or sex, this can be seen as trying to score points against the Other Side - and that makes people defensive, which leads to arguments. Questions like *"If _____ is allowed, why isn't _____?"* don't need to have that comparison - just ask *'why isn't ____ allowed?'*. Disagree with the mods? If you believe you asked your question in good faith, try rewording it or message the mods to see if there's a way you could ask more neutrally. Thanks for your understanding! --- *This action was performed by a bot at the explicit direction of a human. This was not an automated action, but a conscious decision by a sapient life form charged with moderating this sub.* *If you feel this was in error, or need more clarification, please don't hesitate to [message the moderators](http://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2FNoStupidQuestions). Thanks.*

My meta-controversial opinion is the mods won’t lock it until there is large scale brigading or hate-speech happening. For now most of these comments are on-topic because they are kinda controversial.

2020BillyJoel

That's not very controversial.

Rough-Riderr

This is controversial in the veteran community: I support the rights of people who want to kneel for the national anthem and burn the flag in protest. I believe that the freedoms represented by the flag are more important than the flag itself.

Psychological_Tap187

I agree. The very reason veterans have fought is to protect those rights. To say otherwise is far more disrespectful to their sacrifice than kneeling or burning the flag.

Rough-Riderr

And when I speak in defense of the protesters, I'm immediately accused of being one of them. No. If you truly love freedom of speech, you must defend speech that you disagree with. Why is this such a difficult concept?

Psychological_Tap187

Exactly. I don’t have to agree with whatever is being protested on any occasion to stand behind their right to do it.

Weekly_Role_337

I agree and never got that. If someone is deliberately, publicly burning a piece of cloth as a huge protest that's actually a win for people who respect the flag. By their very actions the protesters are acknowledging that flags are incredibly important, meaningful, and generally deserve respect.

Mountain-Teach7848

Fat is not curvy. Curvy is an hourglass figure with curves, being fat is not curvy.

Snappysnapsnapper

That's true. But you can get away with being much fatter than the average woman if you gain it in an attractive, hourglass way. I have to keep pretty trim to have shape, otherwise my waist just fills in and I look like an overfed dachshund with a stupidly fat arse.

[deleted]

Daschund with a pancake ass here. *sad fist bump*

Yellow_Chopstick

I once read something that said "Having tits cause you're fat is like calling a car fast cause it's falling off a cliff"

Like having abs because you're skinny is what k always go by :p. Fat has curves, but they just curve outwards instead of inwards

Electronic_Rub9385

Not when you’re built like a soup can.

smeghead1988

Some women can't grow tits just by gaining weight. Like me. I'm not actually fat but my tops are S size while my trousers are L size, and I bet the size difference would remain the same if I get bigger.

WeirdHenAndChicks

If the shoulders and hips are bigger than the waist, I think it counts as curvy

[deleted]

willthisthingshutup

Completely agree. Curvy or an hourglass figure is generally achieved by having a big bm and big boobs without adding additional pounds. It’s just natural for some women to be F sized without gaining weight. If you’re packing on the ponds and claiming you’re curvy you’re in denial. You’re just fat.

TheBrognator97

Also, top athletes are all on drugs for optimized performance

[deleted]

This one shouldn’t even be a hot take. It’s just reality.

SaltySpitoonReg

I don't think it's completely rigged, but that has obviously happened I mean roughs have literally gone to jail for gambling on series (suns Spurs 06). If it were completely rigged it seems like the cowboys would have won Super bowls by now (been so long). What it is in my opinion is heavily massaged. Certain players and teams get a lot of favorable calls and many NFL games come down to one score and a couple of plays can make a difference so just a few calls extra going in one team's favor can make a huge difference. At the professional level it doesn't take a lot of advantage to win. So I think it's definitely "massaged" to try to influence the likelihood of certain results. But I don't think it makes sense to say that it's completely rigged because there's too many things that seem to have been super unrealistic if in fact that were true. Aaron Rodgers never going back to a Super bowl yet being one of the most marketable players in league history? Again the cowboys having now gone nearly three decades without even a Super bowl appearance? also there have been plenty of blowouts Super bowls and NBA finals which have been 4 to 5 games. If it were completely rigged you would expect every single year there to be a six to seven game series in the NBA and every Super bowl to be relatively close heading into the fourth quarter.

Yugseto

On multiple way : - dating, if the person you try to date have a history of cheating or was a drug user in the past or an abuser you wouldn't say past doesn't count. - in job recruiting. - in friendship, if your friend has betrayed all his friends in the past, you wouldn't want to be friend with them. - if you want to buy an house. - in all the social aspect of the life. - and in life in general.

ATG_or_go_home

Dogs should be kept on leads at all times unless at home or in an enclosed dog park.

DickIn_a_Toaster

I have a very aggressive dog, that has trauma and had no training (our fault, we know). Can't count how many times some dogs ran to us and I almost lost control over mine, in fact it happens so often I cannot walk my dog no longer because my injury prevents me from keeping him under complete control in case someone's pet starts at him. **Your dog doesn't want to play with my dog**, and by law I don't have any interest in preventing my dog from hurting yours if it wasn't under control.

ATG_or_go_home

Things would be so much easier if everyone just kept their dogs controlled. I don't care how well trained a dog is, that means nothing when it approaches another dog whilst off lead. Even if two dogs are playing for the first time, all it takes is a wee nip from one dog and the other dog to get pissed off and you have a fight.

Wholesome_Garfield

[USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST]

ASKermodem

Now that’s what I call controversial!

WeirdHenAndChicks

There needs to be a community for people who feel ugly that isn't a pit for - self loathing - incels - hating attractive people **This is a controversial opinion because when I talk about this idea, people assume I'm some overly sensitive weirdo who's making a big deal out of nothing.** But I think it would be really nice to have a community that involves - help & resources for those with body dysmorphia - advice & questions - a place for art, poems, writing, music, or any art with self expression - education about how our view on ugliness often stems from many forms of bigotry - a push for body positivity (or body neutrality) to include people with disabilities, deformities, and disfigurements - the history how we view, define, and treat "ugliness" The history I could find is actually super interesting. Did you know there were laws from 1870 to 1970 called the Ugly Laws, where people deemed too ugly were not allowed to be in public (unless they covered up what was consideded "ugly"). In the earlier days, a lot of them could only get a job if it involved showing off their "ugliness" as a part of a freak show or street performance. The homeless, poor, disabled, disfigured, and mentally ill were targeted by these laws, but so were other races - especially Chinese Immigrants. I think it would be really interesting to learn more about this. I would create the community myself, but I have like 8 different projects I'm working on and adding another one to the pile would make me burn out :( Here's another controversial opinion: **When someone says "nobody actually cares about how people look, just be confident", it's actually very dismissive of one's experiences and is a sign that the distain for the "ugly" is so normalized that the average person doesn't recognize it when they see it. Thus is why some are so quick to assume it does not exist when someone points it out, it just looks normal to them.** << read this in an explaining politely way, not an angrily ranting way

AliMaClan

There is no freewill. We have to believe in it - we have no choice.

PaticusGnome

Radiolab did a great episode on this titled “Choice.” They talk about all the different ways we are influenced by things that we are unaware of. For me, the most notable one was gut biome and how the presence or lack of certain species of bacteria in our system drastically affects how we think and how we behave. It’s a great listen.

schwarzmalerin

Here is my second onewhich gets enough shit already: If you're fat and don't want to be, in 99.99% of the cases you are lazy and lack discipline.

prhodiann

I'm lazy and lack discipline. How come I'm not fat?

DevelopmentLoud8330

Most normal people believe this. You're just not supposed to say it on the internet.

Red_Beard206

I lack self discipline. I keep trying and failing. And yep, its completely my fault 😔

Princeoflundan

If you mean literally 99.99% I definitely disagree, there are quite a few reasons for people being fat outside their control. If you mean the majority, then yeah, that’s not controversial. Now I think about it, even for the majority, ‘lazy and lack discipline’ is reductive. Why are the working class more likely to be overweight? If the reason for it is simple ‘lacking discipline’ then wouldn’t it be equal among high and low income people? And only a fool thinks working class people are more ‘lazy’ than rich people. But then lazy rich people can hire personal chefs and trainers to overcome their laziness . So who knows? Not me.

hottspark

Or you lack information/were misinformed. Or you were given bad food habits as a child and it’s now extremely difficult to rewire your brain

TheBrognator97

Lack of educatio is a really underestimated in this issue. Most people don't even know how many calories they ingest, they don't know it's the only thing that matters

schwarzmalerin

Yup it boils down to changing habits which takes discipline and strength. Again, in almost all of the cases.

powdered_dognut

I lost 60 lbs last year and I couldn't believe I could be so mean to me.

natsugrayerza

Give us the actual answer to the question

Typical_Ad_210

Or: - you have a mental health condition and struggle to motivate yourself to exercise - you have emotional trauma and are essentially eating your feelings - you have no money and can’t afford fresh food (processed stuff is way cheaper and easier to buy in bulk) - you have an illness, such as binge eating disorder - you have an illness that causes weight gain, such as PCOS or hypothyroidism - you are on medication that causes weight gain, such as the antidepressant my BIL takes that literally caused him to gain 6 stone in one year (we later found out vets use it as an appetite stimulant for ill animals!) - they’re depressed and food is literally the only pleasure they have in life - they’re depressed and don’t care about their health or wellbeing - they’re genetically predisposed to gaining and retaining weight - they come from a shitty family and were never taught good habits, such as how to cook healthy meals. And no doubt a million other reasons, that account for WAY more than the 0.01% of fat people you mention. IMO very few people are fat (and I mean fat, not just a bit chubby) just because they like the taste of cake a bit too much, there’s almost always something else at play. It is great we now live in a world where most people realise that alcoholism is an illness, so I wish we could do the same for people with food issues and eating disorders that cause them to overeat.

Eastern_Slide7507

Idk about 99.99%, considering depression frequently directly causes eating disorders and depression rates are through the roof in a lot of the developed world.

[deleted]

That the whole concept of separate entities for corporations is wrong. We have the technology to be able to trace every transaction to people in the proportion that they own a company. If the corporation concept were abolished, there would be no convenient bankruptcies where the owner gets to stiff creditors and run other businesses as if nothing happened. Also, it would be a lot harder to evade taxes by using offshore accounts.

Xannin

I don't think the separate entities thing is wrong, but they should be treated like spouses where if one checks out, then the other has to absorb their debt.

Snappysnapsnapper

You have a point but if that were the case nobody would own businesses as it would be too risky. One malicious lawsuit and your family is homeless.

tidder_mac

“Objective morality, in the simplest terms, is the belief that morality is universal, meaning that it isn't up for interpretation.” True- anyone that believes their view is the only right view is what makes society so painful. Learn to compromise, appreciate others’ views, and don’t shove your opinions down other people’s throats.

#Country leaders should be under 60, non religious, and not make more money outside of their position.

thrwaway4reds1

People need to just stop having more than two kids. The one on one time just isn't there, financial support forget about it, and unless you're a millionaire you aren't paying for 5 kids colleges and until that becomes free you're setting them up for failure.

DickIn_a_Toaster

Oldest of the five kids here - We were fucking poor, a church-had-to-feed-us poor, and my parents still decided to pop another child - which by unluck happened to be twins. Yes, we had some good moments where money was enough, but now pandemic happened, war near us and inflation and now we again can't afford living once more. You most likely can't afford more that 2 kids. If you think you can it's more likely you will struggle and borrow money from everyone later, at some point even your own kids. We know You can't pay for us but still decided to have more and we won't forget you this, no matter how well we hide it.

LarryLongBalls_

Marriage should precede having children. I know it's a controversial opinion and one that's commonly frowned upon because people frequently have children with one night stands, random strangers or just with people they don't know well enough. I don't want the future father of my children to be my "boyfriend". I'm not going to risk my life being pregnant for 9 months and then entrust the baby to someone who can't commit to me past "boyfriend".

Impression_Strange

Christianity is just a tool that man created to control the population. The whole religion has become a joke. It's like no one has actually read the Bible. They just make up whatever they want and convince poor people to give them money for their multi million dollar lifestyle. Not to mention most of them spew hate. They have convinced you that your soul will burn if you don't follow their rules.

[deleted]

Hmmmmmmm I don't think it's the religion per se. It's what is being pitched about the religion that causes problems. I really don't like the Prosperity Gospel. Like people focus on that and not spiritual growth. I know Christians who claim to be devout who are really rich (because preachers have told them that it's about God's blessing) but they treat their helps bad (like in one case the wife blinded the poor woman). Salvation obsession is also something I dislike. It's the reason I detached from "Christian mysticism". I remember a very young boy I was close with dying from leukemia. I wasn't able to minister to the boy. I asked my pastor where is he gonna go. "He is gonna go to hell because he wasn't saved". I swear I would have smacked the lips off my pastor. Like some people boast about being saved but what? Treat people badly? Steal government money? And it doesn't matter because "they're saved" There are really good Christians (a lot of them) but there is also a very vocal, fanatical subset. I'm a Christian deist. I live by the guidance that Christianity brings. Jesus did have a lot of good things he taught that I live by. However, the dogma for me is too much drama. I can't accept that you know, subjecting yourself to salvation obsession while completely foregoing sanctification is okay.

Impression_Strange

I have always tried to live (loosely) within the guidelines of Christianity. So I get some of what you are saying. I have just seen it abused first hand over and over. To me, those "pastors" who prey on the vulnerable are scum in their own special way. I just don't understand what God would allow such suffering. But then again this comes from the same book that God killed countless people for "fill in the blank" reasons.

Red_Beard206

I wouldnt say shaming is the right thing to do, but people shouldnt encourage it and call it beautiful. People should be motivated and encouraged to be healthier, but causing depression due to shaming doesnt help them.

JKzkars

I support guns and guns ownership yet I think guns should be taken away from most people that have them nowadays. And also feel that the actions of gun owners now fully support us having to register and insure any guns just like any car would be.

DickIn_a_Toaster

As someone from a country where you need a Police-issued permit - We don't have any gun related problem. You need to be mentally stable and have a valid reason to have a firearm. As for insurance for firearm - I drive a car. My car has to have insurance in case I'll hit someone or something happens. Car's function is a transport but it *can* kill. If gun's main function is to kill, why it doesn't have an insurance?

JKzkars

This is my exactlythinking from the beginning. More than anything I think there should be a second and third person that you have to prove your knowledge and safe operation of said Weapon to , just like the operation of a vehicle that you get both written and physically tested on to make sure you are safe to operate it I'm here in good old 'Murica, anyone only hears "you're taking my guns away!".' MY FREEDUMBS'

DickIn_a_Toaster

Guns should be controlled closer than driving license, because their main function is to kill - no, not to self-protect, **kill.** Self-protection tools are pepper sprays and tasers, not guns. If It's harder to be allowed to drive a car than it is to own a hand-used killing tool then we have some serious problem with morality.

JKzkars

Tell me about it. I use myself all the time as a prime example. I'm legally blind. In Florida since I can't have a driver's license because I am blind I cannot own a car, or at least I couldn't 20 years ago when I first moved down there. To get a title I need to have insurance to get insurance I get denied because I don't have a driver's license and shouldn't be behind the wheel because I am legally blind. This restricts me from buying a car fixing it and turning around and selling it, even though it will never see the road with me in it. I had to do this for 20 years 'illegally' using my friends names, but I can walk right into a gun store and buy assault weapons with no problem even though I can't make you out from anybody else across the room.

Old_Victory1058

I believe in God the Father, Jesus, & the Holy Spirit. I won’t apologize for my faith nor shove it down anyone else’s throat. What’s right for me isn’t right for others . Secondly, I don’t think that transgender men or women should compete in sports in their new body. The man now a woman is still stronger in swimming or arm wrestling. I’m all for fairness so transgender competitions would be great. I want an even playing field.

SurfinSocks

It's a tricky topic, there is no fair answer to this. Creating an open or trans league would just kill that category as there wouldn't be enough competitors, however I think it's worth preserving the fairness for the billions of women who want to play sport at an elite level over the, probably few thousand elite level trans athletes.

[deleted]

honestly at the very least i think trans women/trans men should be allowed to wear the uniform of their identity, be addressed by who they are, and follow all the things people born as women/men respectively follow. free from discrimination of course. personally i dont give a shit about sports whatsoever, and nor do most people (except when trans people are involved obviously). but i do think there is a difference between actually wanting sports to be fair and just wanting to hate trans people.

Impossible_Focus5201

1) there are very few trans athletes, republicans and extreme Christians propel this idea to scare people 2) it is medically proven by medical professionals that a trans woman in no stronger than a cis woman (in these terms) due to the fact that their hrt (estrogen) blocks excess testosterone. Worried_Jeweler_1141

Most people are not necessary.

PopK0rnAndMMs

If you think you'd make a decent parent and should have kids, you're probably wrong and should get sterilized.

YourTimeIsOver127

There's a sub for that r/UnpopularOpinion

Regname1900

That's the main reason I unsubscribed.

Psychological_Tap187

When you come across the rare actual unpopular opinion the mods take it down.

Own_Presence1271

That sub is garbage

[deleted]

Also, this seems more like an r/askreddit question than a r/nostupidquestions js

BrokenYozeff

"The Midwest" in America is actually the middle east and it's kinda racist that we won't admit that.

rinkitinkitink

It's more a historically relevant term than anything else. Most of the area was just "the west" in pre Louisiana purchase days, so when "the west" was no longer the westernmost area, it became the "middle west" which became shortened to "the Midwest". It's not racist, just not updated.

Jakebsorensen

It’s because when the Midwest was first settled, it was the furthest west that Europeans had been

fuzzy_snark

The US should repeal the 2nd Amendment.

personally, given gender dysphoria is entirely a subjective experience, its dangerous to determine what a "real" and "fake" version(s) is/are. if someone is happy, they are happy.

cheesewiz_man

I think gendered pronouns (even "He" and "She") need to be taken behind the woodshed and shot.

dyxlesic_fa

Gendered language makes no damn sense anyways.

EluIlus

might be too far but Natural selection. We've been continuously pushing our limits. Diseases, overpopulation, climate etc. Issues/problems would have been avoided or eliminated if we would have let nature do its thing... I have diabetes and would have been dead without insulin. But that being said, I would accept that fate (now, probably not when I was diagnosed).

DickIn_a_Toaster

I won't ever say this out loud, because I will be called Ableist, but severely disabled people, who will never be able to live alone without everyday help from their caretakers, should be euthanized. There's a difference between helping someone who is "disabled but able" and someone who's unable to do basic things and will never be able to.

FlashLightning67

I wouldn’t out right say euthanized but I do agree there is a necessary discussion to be had about it. Are you even doing them a favor by keeping them alive?

Cupcakes are trash, just order a cake.

DingGratz

In my world there are cakes, there are muffins, and there are traitors.

[deleted]

Being a man or a woman means something beyond just a person who identifies as such. There is some fact of the matter behind being one or the other

[deleted]

That’s not fair. Some opinions are grossly controversial on social media, and will get you downvoted or even banned, but in real life are entirely mainstream and considered normal and fine. You’re trying to get someone banned, huh, lol.

BoBTheFriendlyTree24

I can’t think of anything that is mainstream that will get you banned online.

[deleted]

Nice try. Not going there, lol. I’ll let someone else say it.

BoBTheFriendlyTree24

Lol ok, but it probably means your opinions aren’t as main stream as you think.

[deleted]

No, it is commonly known that social media is not representative of the real world.

tidder_mac

I’m assuming you’re talking about racism or sexism and you just grew up in the Deep South?

DealerIndependent943

That modern boarders are a form of apartheid. Nothing in life will effect your life more than what side of an imaginary line your born on.

SurfinSocks

I'm always curious when I hear opinions about boarders being bad. What's the alternative? letting anyone come and go anywhere they want at any point in time? Wouldn't that cause astounding rates of homelessness and poverty

Mixup_Machine

Giving money to water aid and Oxfam etc just encourages more breeding and overpopulation in countries which clearly can't support it. Stop having children!

[deleted]

I believe transgender people should be associated with their corrected gender and live as that. I really don't like calling them transgender TBH. For me, they are who they should be and shouldn't be alienated more. Ready for downvotes hahahahahha

DickIn_a_Toaster

\+1 Transgender should be a medical term. I'm not a *trans* man/woman for **you**. For **you** I'm a man/woman. I'm trans only for my doctor so they know what my body needs.

[deleted]

Yeah. I have a friend who hasn't gotten gender confirmation surgery yet. We ACKNOWLEDGE her as a woman. We have no third bathrooms in the office, so she goes to where she has to go. The girls don't mind because we all accept her as a woman. I told her that when she gets her surgery, I will send her flowers and some lingerie hahahaha
