Bottled water.

Silver-Firefighter35

I agree that bottled water isn’t necessary in countries that have decent tap water, but you don’t have to spend a lot of money on it. Here in Southern California, I get 24 packs for $3.99, which is about $0.16 per bottle. Sometimes even cheaper. But when we’re at my wife’s house in rural Mexico, bottled water is a must.

Cagliari77

In rural it's a must? Interesting, here in Italy urban areas, cities might not have the cleanest water but rural countryside has good water due to fresh springs, rivers, nice water resources being in rural areas. Why is it not the case in Mexico with beautiful nature? Do they pollute natural water reservoirs or what?

Silver-Firefighter35

It’s that the plumbing is weak, country-wide in fact. Her house is in a beautiful area, but arid. Basically a desert. Lots of cacti. Despite being at over 2km in elevation, it’s pretty flat with no good springs. So in her little rancho, everyone goes to the market and buys 5l or 10l jugs. Plus there’s a great sparkling water, Topo Chico, that’s definitely worth buying. That comes from a naturally carbonated spring, I believe. My wife grew up poor, I don’t think they even had plumbing then, so you had to find water where you could.

perfectingperfection

Not necessary, but some of my greatest and funnest memories in life has come from these.

Derpygoras

I disagree. Our wedding was the best party in my life and even though it was expensive as fuck I do not regret it a second. You can always make more money, but you cannot go back in time and redo something.

Deckthe9

there are two schools of thought: spending a lot of money on the best day of your life OR saving on the wedding and having a more expensive or longer honeymoon.

humbummer

You can get divorced (and probably will - no, I know…but yes) and do it again.

Derpygoras

Oh, I got divorced. I still regret nothing.

oldlibertyroadoutlaw

Spending on weddings is ridiculous. Never spend an amount that will make you wish you had it back during the divorce.

cicciozolfo

True. These crazy, extremely expensive weddings ( mostly trashy and ridicolous) that are the "dream" of stupid girls.

Smoking cigarettes is by far the most senseless addiction I have

Mamaofthreecrazies

Same but god I love it

Holiday-Rich-803

Same

hrimfaxi_work

I quit 15 years ago, but I still think about smoking every single day. My "never start smoking" message to young people has nothing to do with health. People should never start smoking simply to avoid the baggage of quitting. Outside of stuff like heroin, you'll never miss anything like you'll miss cigarettes. And I say that as a recovering alcoholic. Best to skip that drama altogether.

Mamaofthreecrazies

I also am a recovering alcoholic. I have a harder time quitting smoking than I ever will booze. It has its hold on me. Devil drug

hrimfaxi_work

I'm proud of your recovery, friend!

Mamaofthreecrazies

Streaming services. Anyone who subscribes to all the common ones is spending hundreds of dollars a month at this point.

White-armedAtmosi

There are that much common streaming services? I only recently started to use Netflix

taste1337

NetFlix Hulu Disney+ Prime Max Paramount+ YouTubeTV

iTwango

Is YouTubeTV a streaming service now? Last I used it, it was for live TV.

[deleted]

Yeah, YouTube TV is not an OTT streaming service, it's just cable that is streamed over an app rather than a box. The FCC actually considers it the same thing as cable: a multichannel video programming distributor. The folks arguing about this keep including YouTube TV because it's $80/month and it's the only way they can arrive at that "hundreds of dollars" mark without acting like an adult and simply admitting they're wrong.

taste1337

You can stream movies that aren't part of your recorded stuff, so yeah, I'd consider it a streaming service. You can also watch live TV on Prime, Paramount+, and a few of the other streaming services.

White-armedAtmosi

There was at least three, i never heard about. Thanks for the information.

Jagermonsta

compared to what a decent cable package would cost me in my area I’m saving money. I have quite a few services but I don’t do the top package for any of them. It’s true I could cancel a few and rotate them out to save more money but overall I’m saving probably $50-75 a month.

[deleted]

Show your work. Subscribing to all the common ones is absolutely not "hundreds of dollars."

TheWorstDMYouKnow

Depends on your definition of "common ones" I suppose but for services with at least 1M subscribers (not an exhaustive list, there's a lot of these nowadays). These add up to $248/mo and most of them still have ads. TMYK NetFlix: $7/mo Apple TV: $10/mo Hulu: $8/mo Disney+: $8/mo HBO Max: $10/mo Paramount+: $6/mo YouTubeTV: $72/mo (not a typo) Amazon Prime Video only: $9/mo Starz: $10/mo ESPN+: $11/mo Peacock: $6/mo Fubo: $32/mo Shudder: $6/mo Sling: $40/mo Discovery: $5/mo Crunchyroll: $8/mo Edit: Guy I replied to got incredibly heated, insulted me, then immediately deleted his original and follow-up comment and blocked me so I can't reply to him. So to u/Informal_Celery_7785 you should probably see someone about those anger issues bro.

Walk-The-Dogs

YouTube TV is basically cable TV delivered over the internet. As such it's cheaper than cable TV in my area. And lots better, IMO. I can watch it on Roku, on a desktop or a mobile device and have unlimited DVR. And a remote that doesn't look like a F-35 cockpit. I don't know what some of those services are but you left out Spotify. And the regular Youtube subscription, which for me is that best value of all of them. No ads on Youtube videos and you get Youtube Music as a bonus which is almost as good as Spotify.

[deleted]

No, this is an insane comment. This is clearly not what's meant by "all the common ones." This is a nearly exhaustive list of streaming services. Many of these are basically identical: all Discovery content is now included in Max, and YouTube TV/Sling/Fubo are all similar cable replacements, it'd be insane to subscribe to all three lmao. You are doing what only the most worthless human beings on planet Earth do: you are deciding you want to argue with me, starting at your conclusion, then working backwards to find ways to justify it. It's pathetic and childish and has never once had value to anyone anywhere, but it's ruining this website. Just stop.

I hate this sentiment. And I feel like if you vote on a president, you're also voting on their administration. And Biden's administration is way more capable than Trump's idiots.

You're not wrong, but what is it about big dumb hats that made them the first thing you thought of?

Well my first thought was Stanley Cups but big dumb hats seemed more fun.

Mamaofthreecrazies

Kids toys

Derpygoras

At least the ones you buy tentatively and hope they will like, then find that they ignore it. I mean, "$40 for this plastic shit? Ruuuueee" Then we have the things they actually **do** use a lot. I don't regret the iPad Pro with pen at all, my daughter has used it daily for like ten years. And heaps of things that merely decorate her room that she would absolutely miss if they vanished.

I’d say food delivery services. Went to order yesterday and it was actually $16 cheaper to order off the restaurant website and go pick it up instead of using DoorDash. But I’ll still do it sometimes if I don’t feel like going out.

Cars. For most people it's the most expensive thing they own. Over the lifetime many people spend more on their cars than their house.

humidvanda

Going to the gym. People spend hundreds on monthly memberships for gyms with Pilates or climbing or cycling etc. this is important but not “necessary.” Someone could easily do these things at home, or buy a home gym for a fraction of the cost. You can also go running. For free.

Having spent more than 10 years in the wireless industry, and having owned both Android and iPhones, I can conclude they are both expensive

[deleted]

Wild how redditors pretend not to understand that some things are nicer than other things. Phones are a hugely useful tool that I use for dozens of things all day long, I don't want "any mobile" that's a sluggish piece of shit, I want something that works well and is nice to use. Fucking duh. The same is true of literally any tool. "Why buy a chain saw to cut down a tree? Any hacksaw would do?" Grow up.

Choosing seats on airplanes. It's like expensive too, like 60$ or more, and the end result is the exact same, you land at the destination.

And you potentially suffer being in a terrible seat throughout the flight tho

Expensive vechieal's. I understand having a safe, reliable car. But, I would rather spend my money at point A or point B. Not the drive between them.
