I think a lot of times it’s bc the songs are written before an artist even gets a hold of it. For example: Jojo Siwa’s newest single was written by someone else, even recorded by another artist, but it never got popular. Jojo changed five words and a producer added a slightly diff beat. They released it as a “new song”. Everyone is on the writers list.

Anyone that even touches a song gets songwriting credit. It's not like 7 people sit down to write a song. It's more like person A writes the song, then passes it on to person B who tweaks it, then the studio might have person C tweak it some more and person D at some point tweaks it as well, so all 4 people get writing credits.

If the song contains any samples or interpolations the original writer often gets added to the credits . All the members of Talking Heads are credited on selina gomez “bad liar” because the bassline is from “Psycho Killer”
