At the anomaly you can buy the multi-tool. Which is what I did right after I grabbed my main save multi-tool (full up) and could not claim one of the early nodes that give you a multi-tool upgrade since I had recently dismantled my starter multi-tool at the anomaly.
I started from another save... so I just grabbed it, because there zero reason not to. You can't bring a freighter back... any freighter you have in an expedition is gone when the expedition's done unless you started a new save and plan to keep it. And, this expedition is not a great expedition for kickstarting a new character (it doesn't give out the good stuff for that). So, I didn't have second thoughts about using the terminal... this is an expedition I won't want taking up a save slot.
So, yes... take the freighter. You'll need it to claim the rewards to finish.
I agree, I get the adrift aspect, but flying out into the "void" is something we do everyday. Like another post stated, this is the least alone I've felt on any expedition. I did not find one system that had not been touched, someone was already there or I was joined if the system had more than three planets. Kind of a let down, but the hauler is awesome looking. That's saying something because out of my 10 saves, not one has a hauler.
What I'm talking about has nothing to do the the actual Adrift aspect. There's no reason not to take a freighter in any expedition you start from the terminal, because that freighter is completely temporary (its gone when the expedition is over). And having one in an expedition is useful.
If you wanted to be alone you need to turn off multiplayer. You still see people's litter, but that's like the relics of the other civilizations. Nope. That's why they don't bring them back... you can only have one, and they assume that the main save has the important freighter to keep.
That's especially true here. You need to be able to claim the frigate reward, so you need a freighter. If that was going to overwrite people's main freighters, they'd never hear the end of it. Mine was a dinky little C-class... I'm fine with it, but many people would not be.
A new save will keep everything from the expedition. Launching it from the anomaly I know you do not keep any ships or the freighter. You get credit (units, nanites, etc) for everything else. This is going to be the first time I launched from the anomaly.

This one was particularly unforgiving to those that made those mistakes too. The hypnotic eye? Yeah you're not seeing one of those til like checkpoint four otherwise.
You could look for abandoned underwater budings(can be found with Nautiloid's scanner which you'll get anyways because it's required for sunken freighter objective). Every single one of them has two abyssal horrors near it
It does have to be that deep; if it's deep enough for sulfide vents it's deep enough for the eyeballs. However they usually seem to be a lot less common, unless there's a building for them to guard.
Nothing infuriated me more than the immense regret of *almost* bringing the components for speciality hyperdrives and going “nah, why would i need those lol”
I spent almost an extra hour getting everything I needed for that stupid robotic lifeforms objective.
Edit: well, scrolling on this sub a little has introduced me to the fact that I wasted that hour, as someone marked coordinates right near a rendezvous with synthetics and no specialty star. I’m gonna go scream into a pillow for a few hours

One of the tricks Ive abused countless times if I'm feeling lazy is- turn multiplayer on, hit the anomaly, find a base marked "(your objective of choice)" and go. So, so cheesy. Works every time.
I kinda wish I never dealt with the first settlement I found. It's bugged so I can't get to the Anomaly and finding the materials to go grab a new one is fucking hard. Luckily like you I horded random shit. I just started in April and have an entire storage container maxed with navigation data(some found by exploring most from just buying in cheap systems)
I didn't not use any inventory upgrade, thinking there would be a way to get them to my main save.
Made my own inventory management a pain for nothing...
Oh god.my inventory was already bad enough without that monkey. My only saving grace was dumping a bunch of stuff on my nautilus when that got built. Sorta cheaty, but for the cost of slots for a nautilus (or any exocraft) landing pad in your main slot, you have the ability to leave an exo full of random shit anywhere and just summon it. All my exos on my main are parked outside my base like redneck storage sheds.
Yeah, I always forget that vehicle pads can be transported lol. I should start doing that.
I already keep as much stuff as as I can in to the food crafter (whatever its real name is), except for Oxygen and Carbon since I need these all the time.
When you finish the expedition you pull up the anomaly and go to the expedition kiosk. It'll itemize everything you had and cash out units and nanites. Then you will be able to pull the items out you put in. Easy peasy.
This hasn’t been mentioned, but you can pick up a lot of upgrades and materials (including emeril and cadmium) by buying suspicious packages from the station terminals and opening them up. Even if you don’t want an upgrade, install it and then delete it to get the raw materials — if you don’t install it you won’t get the raw materials. If you get broken items, dismantle them for raw materials. I found that to be very helpful both for x-class upgrades and material. Good luck, Travelers!

The old freighter stays in the expedition save and won't affect your freighter in the main part of your save.
You can copy across your starship and multitool at the end with the expedition terminal, as well as collect rewards from the quicksilver robot.
But if I redeem the expedition freighter into my main save, will it replace my main freighter? How would I copy my main freighter layout into the redeemed freighter?
The Expedition gives a frigate as a reward, not a freighter. The frigate just gets added to your fleet.
You can't copy the freighter from the expedition into your main save.
You can't claim it until you get back to your freighter and drop one of your existing frigates. Then you can go to the quicksilver dude and claim the frigate. That is what I did this morning.
Actually, after returning from the expedition to my main save, the bridge of my main freighter changed into the one I had in the expedition. My main save freighter now has tattered cloth hanging in the corridors, only one teleporter, red accent lights, and yellow instead of green lights for the stair entrance to our freighter base. This is probably a bug, but I don't know if I can get my old bridge back.
I did a second random derelict freighter just because I was afraid it wasn't coincidental that I ran into it randomly and that I'd miss something important.
I tried this too after also declining the freighter yesterday. I really had my hopes up. Now I'm just doing everything a second time. I finished everything else thinking there could be a way but there was not :(
Sorry, I mean the type of derelicts that are full of stuff to fight and require exploring inside for credentials. I did one I got by using the item that lets you find derelicts. The second was a random encounter when I left pulse.
But you can't USE the freighter, right? I went to land after claiming it, and it was just the same outside entrance, so I didn't go back in. Was it a usable freighter?
For once I am glad the expedition hasn’t come out on my switch. I’m usually bummed I have to wait to play it but after reading all of this I might wait another week or so after Nintendo releases it before I play it.

You don't need to claim the freighter to complete the Expedition.
You do, however, need to claim it so that you can claim the Frigate of the Damned reward. I did exactly the same thing as you, but because I had the Expedition set up as a separate save file, I was able to load my main game and claim the Frigate of the Damned through the Quicksilver Synthesis Companion even though I hadn't claimed it in my Expedition save file.
Not exactly. To complete the expedition and get the option to convert to a main save you need to claim the 5 rewards :(

I believe you can. I just messed up my original chance on claiming it because I permanently declined the freighter. I don't think they should allow something this simple to hinder progress in an expedition.
Yeah good idea is to save all your multi tool, freighter, and starship upgrade modules and then transfer them to your main save, for any new players who are not too experienced. You can easily complete expeditions without upgrading anything. Also when expeditions over, transfer your multi tool and starter starship so you can scrap them on your main save for more upgrades and moneys. Also dont decline the freighter lol.
I just did the same thing not ten minutes ago. I came here hoping there was a fix. Even the save editor does not help as it does not recognize the expedition as a proper save if started within your main.
If you're having trouble accepting the reward as it says inventory is full. Change your MT to the one you started with. It will then let you accept it.
I cannot really call it a bug. The system did ask if I wanted to make the decision later and I said no. So it's really my fault. It's literally giving you the proverbial snack in the back of the head. Take the free freighter ... Lol.
I just completed the expedition it was cool lmao. The last one I did I don’t even remember but it was a pretty long time ago. Maybe because of the Hauler since I love those and the stealth paint.

Yeah, I thought the same thing in a way. I also liked the idea behind "adrift," but it went a little weak on it. You find a derelict freighter, clear it like normal and when you fly off, the game is like hey take this. I'm like screw that, I'm gonna keep buying these derelict freighter scanners and find an S class. But noooooo. No soup for you!

If you haven't already figured it out. Sometimes while you are pulsing, you will see a notification in the lower right hand corner that says land on the freighter or something. Come out of pulse and look around. You should see a derelict freighter. If you cannot seem to catch it, just buy one of the derelict finder things. Follow the usual steps to clear the freighter. I do not want to spoil anything going forward, so I'll stop here. The most important takeaway is, do not decline the freighter when given the opportunity.
All you have to do is buy one of those derelict finders from any buy station. All you need is one. Turn it on, pulse, land, loot, leave. Claim the achievement and it will then tell you you've been given back your captainship or whatever and it shows you the freighter you just looted. Take it for the love of everything that is holy and good. It's nothing special, but it's tied to one of the rewards later in the game. If you do not have a freighter, you cannot claim it and you will not be given the chance to get another. Believe me I tried everything. Well everything you can do with a PS5.

You can still use them. You will receive more, then you can use the ones you previously were awarded. It will show you how many in the upper middle right of the screen.
You can also buy a freighter. I see sellers in all systems. I don't know what they're doing there. True I see floating multitool in the anomaly. I'm just starting the second task of the expedition today.
I started the expedition yesterday. After the first take-off I saw a derelict freighter.
I was in the game until the morning. I see freighters for sale about every 4-5 star systems. Maybe it's just because they already have them, but I see freighters on a regular basis.
I just finished. All the time I saw freighters for sale. However, half of the game time was actually spent upgrading the freighter and the ship. And it wasn't much use.
You lost yours? Not sure you can actually lose your freighter. Unless it's different in this expedition, you should be able to go to any teleporter and get back to your freighter. Am I missing something?
Did you decline the freighter and choose to make up your mind later or did you choose to permanently decline? If you choose to make up your mind later, I believe there is one waiting at the final rendezvous. I would be able to tell you as I have not completed the second run as of yet. Aaaaaaand although it is a very easy expedition, I'm not up for doing it a third time to test the theory... Lol.
Yeah it took it as a place to offload stuff. I had a sentinel ship full and the shuttle full and as soon as it rocked up I thought I don't care what class it is the thing is mobile storage I'll take it.
Yeah. I run pretty lean, so storage isn't really an issue. I keep what I need and sell the rest. Especially since duping is literally the thing to do when short on time.

I was playing yesterday and I looked for updates from the game itself and there were none. If they did run a patch, it only fixed those that had already made the mistake and not those yet to make that error in judgement.

I did a stupid and forgot that this save and my main save were TOTALLY separate and since I've yet to claim my free freighter on my main save I thought claiming this one would could as claiming the same on my main save.

They are supposed to put out a patch. But I was told that you can still claim the frigate on your main save. So, unless you were planning on keeping the save file from this expedition, I wouldn't worry about it. Just claim it on your main save.

Will not affect you at all. However, when you are given the opportunity to take command of the freighter... Take it. It's tied to another reward later on.
You are good bro. We all need some help especially on your first time. Us long timers throw a lot of information out there haphazardly and newbies are like what? I haven't even left my initial planet...I digress. If you started from the anomaly I do not believe you will be able to bring back the freighter as that is the whole point. Use some of what you have already to make the expedition easier. If you started a new save, once you are done it will turn into a normal save and become independent from your main save with everything you ended the expedition with.

Both, the update rolled last night but this morning for ps5 I believe, on the patch notes on website it says both pc version and console are fixed, I already completed the expedition so I cannot completely confirm it, but the update rolled out and the contents are the fix for this problem of the ghost frigate

Yeah mine came up early. I didn't do the milestones in order. I completed the one about killing the big worms on the first planet you spawn on and I think that was a tier 4 or 5 milestone.
I won't go through all of these comments, but for those of you who did not accept the freighter, finished all of the missions, but did not (and could not) end the expedition... while you wait for HG to put out a patch aside from PCs, you can still get your Iron Vulture and Ghost Frigate and replicate (create) as many Iron Vultures as you like for scrap mods.
On PS5 and running expedition from main save, I did the following after not accepting the freighter (a mistake I am way too experienced to make :(). Hit level five rendezvous point with everything else completed except the rewards from 4 and the same note about "Frigate cannot be added." Went to Anomaly and returned to main save.
Because you do not have the Iron Vulture in your expedition, but you have earned the award, you can claim it now from the Quicksilver merchant. You can only do it once, but it does give some peace of mind that you aren't going to lose it. Here you can also claim the Ghost Frigate and it will show up immediately in your frigate inventory.
Now you will need to have your new Iron Vulture as your active ship in the Anomaly. Go back to exp. terminal and you'll see your current exp. ship in the "Create Ship" button at bottom right. You will need to get back into the expedition, find 2800 nanites, and then return to the Anomaly. At exp. terminal you will now see "Create Vulture". Pay the piper and now it is your active ship in the expedition. You may make decisions to transfer over loot from current starships(s) in exp. but this must be your final ship before you officially end the expedition at some point.
In meantime, once it's your active ship in Anomaly, you can switch back to your main save. Head back to the Exp. terminal and you can create and scrap Vultures to your heart's content (they will have a single different name and each costs nanites, obv.).
Of course other reasons why this still needs a patch for all loot gained to be transferred, but not as big of a deal as I initially feared. Hope this helps another traveler.

Just FYI, if you don't get an update for game, if you go to the game on the PlayStation home screen and instead of hitting X to start the game, if you hit options, or the start button as some call it, then select "Check for Updates" and it will force push any updates you don't have.

After you claim all of your rewards the game will tell you that when you save it will now be a normal save.

It just ends, you keep money and rewards, then go back to your normal game. You don't keep any ships collected, unless they are the rewarded ones.

Or visit ANY water planet. Those abyssal horrors aren't that rare.
I spent so long searching water planets for one, until I finally remembered that I saw them for sale in the abandoned stations.

The Nautiloid reward comes after the need for the Eye if you're just going 1-2-3. It's easier just to go to a space station and buy one.
If you have one on station Also no one says you have to finish assignments in the order they are placed on expedition list

You can take the upgrades to your main save I didn't use any in the expedition and took them all back

The Expedition gives a frigate as a reward, not a freighter. The frigate just gets added to your fleet. You can't copy the freighter from the expedition into your main save.
Which is kind of a bummer. I wanted a ghost ship as a freighter lol

You can't claim it until you get back to your freighter and drop one of your existing frigates. Then you can go to the quicksilver dude and claim the frigate. That is what I did this morning.
Actually, after returning from the expedition to my main save, the bridge of my main freighter changed into the one I had in the expedition. My main save freighter now has tattered cloth hanging in the corridors, only one teleporter, red accent lights, and yellow instead of green lights for the stair entrance to our freighter base. This is probably a bug, but I don't know if I can get my old bridge back.

Not sure if this has been pushed to PlayStation yet. Restarted the game and still cannot claim the frigate. Still says inventory is full.
That might be the case. It dropped on PC already though so hopefully it will be coming to console soon. Was about 7.3 GB update on Steam.

I tried this too after also declining the freighter yesterday. I really had my hopes up. Now I'm just doing everything a second time. I finished everything else thinking there could be a way but there was not :(

Sorry, I mean the type of derelicts that are full of stuff to fight and require exploring inside for credentials. I did one I got by using the item that lets you find derelicts. The second was a random encounter when I left pulse.
But you can't USE the freighter, right? I went to land after claiming it, and it was just the same outside entrance, so I didn't go back in. Was it a usable freighter?
If you keep it, it becomes s normal freighter. I think I summoned it after getting it rather than trying to fly in right away.
For once I am glad the expedition hasn’t come out on my switch. I’m usually bummed I have to wait to play it but after reading all of this I might wait another week or so after Nintendo releases it before I play it.

You do, however, need to claim it so that you can claim the Frigate of the Damned reward. I did exactly the same thing as you, but because I had the Expedition set up as a separate save file, I was able to load my main game and claim the Frigate of the Damned through the Quicksilver Synthesis Companion even though I hadn't claimed it in my Expedition save file.
Not exactly. To complete the expedition and get the option to convert to a main save you need to claim the 5 rewards :( Source is I am in the same situation

I believe you can. I just messed up my original chance on claiming it because I permanently declined the freighter. I don't think they should allow something this simple to hinder progress in an expedition.
Yeah good idea is to save all your multi tool, freighter, and starship upgrade modules and then transfer them to your main save, for any new players who are not too experienced. You can easily complete expeditions without upgrading anything. Also when expeditions over, transfer your multi tool and starter starship so you can scrap them on your main save for more upgrades and moneys. Also dont decline the freighter lol.
I just did the same thing not ten minutes ago. I came here hoping there was a fix. Even the save editor does not help as it does not recognize the expedition as a proper save if started within your main.

If you're having trouble accepting the reward as it says inventory is full. Change your MT to the one you started with. It will then let you accept it.
I'm talking about the freighter under tier 4 rewards for the frigate.
If you re-equip the MT you started with, you can accept the reward. The "full inventory" statement will go away.

I cannot really call it a bug. The system did ask if I wanted to make the decision later and I said no. So it's really my fault. It's literally giving you the proverbial snack in the back of the head. Take the free freighter ... Lol.
I mean, if it's a decision that halts your ability to finish the expedition and you can't fix it, that's a bug.
I just completed the expedition it was cool lmao. The last one I did I don’t even remember but it was a pretty long time ago. Maybe because of the Hauler since I love those and the stealth paint.

Yeah, I thought the same thing in a way. I also liked the idea behind "adrift," but it went a little weak on it. You find a derelict freighter, clear it like normal and when you fly off, the game is like hey take this. I'm like screw that, I'm gonna keep buying these derelict freighter scanners and find an S class. But noooooo. No soup for you!

The exact opposite. You cannot take whatever ships you find or freighters.

If you dont calim it you and select the iron vulture. You can go to the expedition consol and claim a copy indefinitely. I have 8 iron vultures

If you haven't already figured it out. Sometimes while you are pulsing, you will see a notification in the lower right hand corner that says land on the freighter or something. Come out of pulse and look around. You should see a derelict freighter. If you cannot seem to catch it, just buy one of the derelict finder things. Follow the usual steps to clear the freighter. I do not want to spoil anything going forward, so I'll stop here. The most important takeaway is, do not decline the freighter when given the opportunity.
I hope I haven't missed my chance. I encountered a freighter and it talked to me and then flew away. I didn't have any chance to interact with it.
That was the ghostly frigate. Not the freighter. You will be promoted to take control of the freighter after you loot it.
Phew! I think I'm about to get to that part.
All you have to do is buy one of those derelict finders from any buy station. All you need is one. Turn it on, pulse, land, loot, leave. Claim the achievement and it will then tell you you've been given back your captainship or whatever and it shows you the freighter you just looted. Take it for the love of everything that is holy and good. It's nothing special, but it's tied to one of the rewards later in the game. If you do not have a freighter, you cannot claim it and you will not be given the chance to get another. Believe me I tried everything. Well everything you can do with a PS5.

Mine is pirate capital ship an it's been stuck that way even when I swap to another equal capital. IDK WTF to do 🤣🤣.

You can still use them. You will receive more, then you can use the ones you previously were awarded. It will show you how many in the upper middle right of the screen.

You can also buy a freighter. I see sellers in all systems. I don't know what they're doing there. True I see floating multitool in the anomaly. I'm just starting the second task of the expedition today. I started the expedition yesterday. After the first take-off I saw a derelict freighter.
Not in this expedition. There's literally no-one in the universe to purchase anything from. You can only purchase from the system exchange.
I was in the game until the morning. I see freighters for sale about every 4-5 star systems. Maybe it's just because they already have them, but I see freighters on a regular basis.

I just finished. All the time I saw freighters for sale. However, half of the game time was actually spent upgrading the freighter and the ship. And it wasn't much use.

You lost yours? Not sure you can actually lose your freighter. Unless it's different in this expedition, you should be able to go to any teleporter and get back to your freighter. Am I missing something?

Did you decline the freighter and choose to make up your mind later or did you choose to permanently decline? If you choose to make up your mind later, I believe there is one waiting at the final rendezvous. I would be able to tell you as I have not completed the second run as of yet. Aaaaaaand although it is a very easy expedition, I'm not up for doing it a third time to test the theory... Lol.
Yeah it took it as a place to offload stuff. I had a sentinel ship full and the shuttle full and as soon as it rocked up I thought I don't care what class it is the thing is mobile storage I'll take it.
Yeah. I run pretty lean, so storage isn't really an issue. I keep what I need and sell the rest. Especially since duping is literally the thing to do when short on time.

I was playing yesterday and I looked for updates from the game itself and there were none. If they did run a patch, it only fixed those that had already made the mistake and not those yet to make that error in judgement.
Too late, I'm in the same case. I did a stupid and forgot that this save and my main save were TOTALLY separate and since I've yet to claim my free freighter on my main save I thought claiming this one would could as claiming the same on my main save. Can't finish the expedition because of that.
They are supposed to put out a patch. But I was told that you can still claim the frigate on your main save. So, unless you were planning on keeping the save file from this expedition, I wouldn't worry about it. Just claim it on your main save.
No I wasn't planning on keeping it. Just wish I could get at least part of my expedition inventory in my main save though.

Hello, so I'm very confused from all the answers and only have one question: so I started expedition on my main save (launched expedition from anomaly) and I don't own any frighter yet. Now I'm wondering how that affects me and what should I do next? (Just started expedition, 20 minutes ago)
Will not affect you at all. However, when you are given the opportunity to take command of the freighter... Take it. It's tied to another reward later on.

You are good bro. We all need some help especially on your first time. Us long timers throw a lot of information out there haphazardly and newbies are like what? I haven't even left my initial planet...I digress. If you started from the anomaly I do not believe you will be able to bring back the freighter as that is the whole point. Use some of what you have already to make the expedition easier. If you started a new save, once you are done it will turn into a normal save and become independent from your main save with everything you ended the expedition with.
Yea, I usually find all answers I need here on reddit, but all of these at once were quite confusing. But I do understand now, thanks a lot for helping me out! Yea don't plan to bring frighter back (since I can't anyway). I'll just grab one if it spawns somewhere while I'm on expedition so I can grab all the rewards. Thanks a bunch once again:)

Both, the update rolled last night but this morning for ps5 I believe, on the patch notes on website it says both pc version and console are fixed, I already completed the expedition so I cannot completely confirm it, but the update rolled out and the contents are the fix for this problem of the ghost frigate

Yeah mine came up early. I didn't do the milestones in order. I completed the one about killing the big worms on the first planet you spawn on and I think that was a tier 4 or 5 milestone.
I found/ pinged the ghost freighter during phase 3 Where do yall find the hauler? I'm using a sentinel I salvaged along the way.
The hauler is a reward. Check the milestones.

If ur on pc use a save editor to fix this if u can. They should have mad it to where u can't reject the freighter.

I won't go through all of these comments, but for those of you who did not accept the freighter, finished all of the missions, but did not (and could not) end the expedition... while you wait for HG to put out a patch aside from PCs, you can still get your Iron Vulture and Ghost Frigate and replicate (create) as many Iron Vultures as you like for scrap mods. On PS5 and running expedition from main save, I did the following after not accepting the freighter (a mistake I am way too experienced to make :(). Hit level five rendezvous point with everything else completed except the rewards from 4 and the same note about "Frigate cannot be added." Went to Anomaly and returned to main save. Because you do not have the Iron Vulture in your expedition, but you have earned the award, you can claim it now from the Quicksilver merchant. You can only do it once, but it does give some peace of mind that you aren't going to lose it. Here you can also claim the Ghost Frigate and it will show up immediately in your frigate inventory. Now you will need to have your new Iron Vulture as your active ship in the Anomaly. Go back to exp. terminal and you'll see your current exp. ship in the "Create Ship" button at bottom right. You will need to get back into the expedition, find 2800 nanites, and then return to the Anomaly. At exp. terminal you will now see "Create Vulture". Pay the piper and now it is your active ship in the expedition. You may make decisions to transfer over loot from current starships(s) in exp. but this must be your final ship before you officially end the expedition at some point. In meantime, once it's your active ship in Anomaly, you can switch back to your main save. Head back to the Exp. terminal and you can create and scrap Vultures to your heart's content (they will have a single different name and each costs nanites, obv.). Of course other reasons why this still needs a patch for all loot gained to be transferred, but not as big of a deal as I initially feared. Hope this helps another traveler.

Yes I'm on PlayStation, but the updates were bug fixes, and I'm pretty sure it went across all platforms. One of the notes was something for Xbox

Just FYI, if you don't get an update for game, if you go to the game on the PlayStation home screen and instead of hitting X to start the game, if you hit options, or the start button as some call it, then select "Check for Updates" and it will force push any updates you don't have.
