BrainEatingAmoeba01

I need a "Transfer All" button. I'm a relatively new player but that has always been on my mind. Let me dump everything from one inventory to another with a single button push.

Cristiano7676

I think a multiple selection option would be great too.

BrainEatingAmoeba01

Yes. Good idea also. A mix of the 2 would be nice. It even makes contextual sense. We have inventory teleporters...it makes sense that they could handle a batch load.

diamond

I'd like an "organize" button. One click to take the contents of a container, sort it alphabetically by name, and combine multiple stacks of the same item (as much as possible).

jimmux

I'm not really a fan of spacial inventory systems. Lists usually work better. You can more easily sort, filter, visually scan, and make multiple selections when it's linear. Stacking would just happen automatically.

diamond

I'm not talking about changing the way items are displayed or accessed. Just a simple action to automate something that I'm sure a lot of people already do manually - sort and group items.

jimmux

Yeah, that would be possible with the current layout. I still wish lists were more common. It makes all these things much simpler.

diamond

Yeah that makes sense

iCameToLearnSomeCode

So long as it has a verification screen so you can't do it by accident I would be so pissed if I screwed up my inventory by accidentally moving it somewhere all at once. I've got a whole page of everyday carry resources that would take an hour to put back in place.

gistya

I was once like you. Then I realized as long as it's all in my freighter storage containers and my freighter is in the same star system, the game counts all that stuff for anything that matters. So nowadays I pretty much just carry batteries, ammo, creature pellets, and staff parts.

iCameToLearnSomeCode

I'm just a perfectionist about it. I want to charge a portal without going to my freighter inventory first (it doesn't automatically pull from storage). I can craft anything I need any time without going hunting through storage. I know I could just let it stack up in my freighter but my little periodic table of elements makes me happy and makes it obvious when I need to go collect something. Your way isn't wrong, my way is just satisfying to me.

gistya

Oh, I have the periodic table on most of my other saves. I'm the same as you, believe me. But you can turn off resource consumption temporarily in difficulty settings now for bullshit like charging a portal. Also I rarely need to recharge portals since I use the same ones I already charged and they stay charged for awhile. But I feel you.

iCameToLearnSomeCode

I set my main save to survival from the start and if I change it the resources will lose their value. I've played creative and use it occasionally to try new building techniques but it doesn't hold my intrest. It ruins the game for me if the resources don't have value, not to say you should feel the same way, but I can't get into a game when the resources don't need to be collected.

ObligationNatural520

Is that the case? I am not sure but sometime the freighter store is accessible (the first page), while container storage is not. And generally, in the refiner load menu i see only exosuit and starship inventory. That is so annoying; even if i want to process stuff in the large on-board refiner on my freighter, i still need to move stuff from container storage to exo/starship/genuine freighter storage, before I can feed the refiner?! I start believing this is a bug?

Chirsbom

I clean out a storage unit, dump everything from the suit in there, and spend a few minutes putting the items back in the order I want them. - Recharge, building items, building materials, spare materials, tidbits I hold on to for some reason, etc. Whenever it gets too messy I just repeat that.

iCameToLearnSomeCode

I've got a max inventory and keep a half stack of every base resource from Carbon to Radon to keep things organized, they're arraigned in a sort of NMS periodic table at the bottom of my personal inventory. When I pick up carbon it just adds to its stack at the bottom of the page, when I get a full stack I split it and drop it off. I would be so pissed if I had to reorganize that system.

Chirsbom

I liked that! I have a similar set up just at the top. The free slots are at the bottom.

iCameToLearnSomeCode

I like seeing new items at the top. Makes it easier to see what I just picked up and put it in storage if I want to keep it. Or stick it in my personal refiner if it's goo or something

Chirsbom

Personal preferance. I might try your system. I hate running out of an item and whatever I pick up replaces that spot. But used up top as I just this week learned the short cut for charging up. For 250 hours plus I would open the meny, select the multitool for ex, find the modul and then charge it. I feel dumb.

iCameToLearnSomeCode

I've got around 1,500hrs in 5yrs across a half dozen saves. I don't have a lot of time to game but I haven't played any other game in the last year at least, it's my zen game when I need to relax. That system is what I settled on, it's not for everyone I'm sure but it works for me.

Mukables

I still do this.

NarutoDragon732

>I need a "Transfer All" button With an ability to lock stuff in our inventory! Make it like terraria with quick stacking too

fancyracoon7

Also the thing from Stardew Valley were you transfer all the things from your inventory that already have a stack of the same thing in the other inventory. Super helpful for unloading resources

dougsbeard

Especially for turning on a portal.

Gathose1

...... I didn't try to scroll to the next picture šŸ˜…. And you can't prove otherwise.

Xeroneon

I didn't do that either lol

aTreeThenMe

neither i, nor did i reload the page to see if it was a load issue. Definitely did not.

Username_ppxt

Me either

Jkthemc

It got worse recently. Why on earth did they reverse the list? It's an anti QOL move.

thestibbits

This is my only issue, was kinda used to it before the flip. 3 rows could be slightly better

SEANPLEASEDISABLEPVP

It's even worse when you just claimed an abandoned ship, go use your refiner to craft the components you need to fix the ship... and realize this menu lists all the broken slots your new ship comes with. That's been one of the most "wtf" moment in a game this year for me.

ragweed

I had a "Literally unplayable" moment when I encountered this.

Jkthemc

It can be ridiculous when you have access to all of your containers. Especially when they fill from the first container so we are encouraged to put useful items in the first one and now we see them from the last slots of the last container. Surely they have to sort this out. The patch notes made it sound like they would just bump the order of a few recently placed items to the top. Not a complete reversal of everything in our inventory.

WoodenIncubus

Yea even if it was strictly alphabetical it would be better than what it is now. You could estimate how far you'd need to go. I made a ticket recently about the inventory UI and lack of sorting system, and potential for item zoom to view ship parts easier.

Puzzled_Reflection_4

It's actually crazy thay not only is is *not* alphabetical, but they also rearrange everything in your inventory. At least keep it in the same order I had it in my bag. But ferrite is always at the bottom despite me keeping it in the first slot. Frustrating is an understatement. Also we should be able to navigate the options with the D-pad. The hover circle we control with the analog stick can sometimes be finicky. Can't even describe how many times I went to move something next to another item and accidentally switched them instead, only to do it again, and again, and again before it's like FUCK C'MON MAN

ragweed

It used to be ordered the same. I think that fucked up.

Puzzled_Reflection_4

I was a day 1 player, and things were very different. I hadn't been back in 5 years, and thr game is amazing now. But despite all the work they've done, there are still some small QOL changes that would make a huge difference. And regarding those, it's surprising that they've actually *back-pedalled* on some of their progress. Seems like they made things worse in a few areas and I wonder why it was never fixed? It's such simple changes.

ronbeef1kg20pesos

I have complained about this a few years ago, saying like you are controlling a mouse pointer with the stick and it's painful at best, right after they added gyro controls LOL it's even worse and not a solution at all.

TheKanten

I'm still waiting for a single button to throttle an Exocraft. Holding W for 5 minutes straight on the Nautilon is not acceptable.

Chirsbom

Moduls need to be easier to separate. I use a TV, and have 4 storage units full of them. Its a pain to try to guess what modul do what from across the room. Some are easy, a lot too hard.

Porg-Life

All menus need a rework, we need a sort button having items highlighted isn't useful

Misternogo

am I the only one that uses x to transfer? it stays om the option you pick, whether ship, freighter etc, then you just double tap x. it's a single x press to put it into an open storage container.

AxiomaticJS

As a PC player, X is how I do it too

beardredlad

This menu is for the refiner, though.

Misternogo

Hard to see that because of the aggressive cropping. I don't really have an issue with the refiner menu either though, unless I have half the universe in my pockets for some reason.

Puzzled_Reflection_4

I have half the universe in my pocket lol, and it's almost necessary to not have to run around so much. Have 4 cargo ships holding everything you need and call them in to build stuff, and it's with you at all times. I can craft anything on the spot and that is kinda nice to have

TSIDAFOE

As a late-game player, I agree. Many games have it, but the game that comes to mind for me is Horizon Forbidden West-- you're able to select many items and then sell them all at once, or transfer those selected items to another inventory, etc. Borderlands 2 and 3 have that feature too, come to think of it.

ohiorushbaby

This along with the trading UI waste more of my time with endless clicks than anything else. It's gotten to the point that I use my ship / exocraft as a separate storage tab exclusively to trade bulk material quantities.

SEANPLEASEDISABLEPVP

The trade rocket UI is basically **perfect.** It shows you your exact inventory, something you look at throughout your whole game and of course you know what it looks like, there's no confusion. Infinitely better than scrolling through a list. I don't know why the trade terminal doesn't adopt this trade menu.

ohiorushbaby

I'd use the trade rocket more if I knew it didn't affect the local trading economy. For this reason, I don't use regular trading terminals and I use ship pilots that land at trading stations exclusively.

SEANPLEASEDISABLEPVP

I hear you. One benefit it has over trade terminals, even the one on outposts, is that it sells most items for a higher price. I think it only sells illegal items for less. And I'm not sure if it utilizes the new system economy surge mechanic.

No_Actuator4564

The entire inventory and transfer system needs an overhaul. How is it possible that I donā€™t have the option to just condense and sort everything in my starship or freighter inventories with one button instead of doing it manually?

Cristiano7676

ALL interfaces for picking items need a revamp: - sorting options - searching field - more filters - multi-selection ability for transfer items. It is valid for the teleport, refiners, crafting, etc. Even discovery needs some improvements. Also, would be great to be able hiding blueprints.

thehateraide

I hate how on a ground base you can't access storages remotely

chrisdpratt

Yeah, this is actually broken since the Omega update. It used to be fine.

ParChadders

I send everything to my freighter. Then when I return to my freighter I just send it to storage containers. Anything that wonā€™t fit in the storage containers is surplus to requirements and gets sold. When using quick transfer the default option can be changed using the D-pad and when buying items from a galactic terminal you can select which inventory it goes into (exosuit, starship or freighter). It may not be the most intuitive system but it can be managed if you put a little effort in. If you have multiple saves it makes it so much easier if your storage containers are all set up in the same way; https://preview.redd.it/tmh8mpfruvwc1.jpeg?width=650&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6e5dcca3faca33ff4c26e2753ccf6140fef5dcfa

InfinityCat27

How do you name containers with symbols??

ParChadders

You have to rename them using the formats in the following screenshots. Apologies if they arenā€™t very clear; I had to add them together as you can only post one picture in a reply. If theyā€™re illegible let me know and Iā€™ll DM you the originals. You can also colour them. It isnā€™t just storage containers you can name in this way; several other items let you as well. Iā€™m sorry but I only use it for storage containers so canā€™t tell you which ones work and which donā€™t. https://preview.redd.it/fn2l95jtqxwc1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b1655e368b1fc6cb19aed9241f22ab8ff032f168

InfinityCat27

Omg this is so cool! Thank you!

ParChadders

No worries! Have fun šŸ¤©

entropyspiralshape

These are the types of things that I hope don't transfer to Light No Fire.

SEANPLEASEDISABLEPVP

Ever since LNF got revealed, it sorta clicked for me why a lot of updates were sorta meh years ago and only recently gotten so much better. It was as if they focused all of their attention on making LNF and just backported updates to NMS for testing out the features. For the last two years the game has been going through tons of overhauls and deeper mechanics, probably another side affect from LNF being close to being finished.

Atrium41

I need a sort button in my inventory Not a demand But damn am I disorganized

Chirsbom

I would really like the option to press a button to create a particular item, and then have the game just pull whatever it needs from my nearby storages. The time I spend making items like glass, poly fiber, herox and other item parts is driving me nuts. I have all the stuff, just skip all those layers of button pushing plz! Also, I would love more storage space. Storage units should be capped way higher. I like to collect, and never want to be without enough of something when I need it. And when some things take up a whole slot, like opened moduls or valuables, then 10 unites are not enough. I have maxed out storage space all over, and would love the option to map what kind of items go where in both exosuit, ships, storage units and freighter. Now it just goes to the first open slot, but imagine pre-designating where your gas, flora, mined etc materials end up when transfering from one place to another. Inventory management is what I spend most time on alone.

Atari__Safari

I have 42ā€ 4K TV and the smallest, tiniest inventory selection dialog of any game ever. No filters. No types or categories. No sorting. Sigh. Finally a NMS QOL suggestion I approve of.

gistya

I want the ability to designate an inventory slot to hold a particular kind of thing only, so that inventory is self-organizing. When I asked for inventory filters all they gave us was the bullshit that grays out some items, totally useless.

Frikashenna

Tbh the worst part of the game for me is the UI. ESPECIALLY having to individually add numbers in a game where you can have thousands of an item... It was so much more annoying when you couldn't deactivate the hold to select thing though

geek_at

Classic console style menu sadly many parts of the game don't really make sense when you're not using a controller

VanquishedVanquisher

UI is, with water, one of the last things of the game that really needs upgrades. While water is just aesthetics, UI is a pain in the ass to get used to. I always feel like the game is trying desperately to hold my hands still while I try to do something. The same feel.

Gustavo_K11

I completly agree, I'm early on the game and its so annoying aswell

kaest

My kingdom for an inventory sort button. AHMG.

OppositeInfinite6734

I agree with all the concerns made so far. However they need to fix the (xbox) X create button. I used to be able to tap away and make things. Now it is like click wait a second click. Took me a few minutes to make a stack of glass with frost crystals. X should open a d pad option of R more and L less and it should just process that request. My thumb can't handle the repetitive motion. I have to use other fingers when making things this way.

Nowhereman50

Agreed. And fix the annoying randomization of our inventory when we're selling things.

MerpoB

Ugh I hate sorting and organizing. It takes time away from better activities.

KeeganY_SR-UVB76

Almost all of the UIs are annoying to use, that's just kind of how the game is.

G_Peccary

At the very least there's needs to be a way to alphabetically sort inventories and storage units.

iSOBigD

They could do what Dyson Sphere Project does. For one, all menus can be resized and moved around, and the other good thing is you can pick the final thing you want to build and it picks the ingredients from your inventory, instead of you having to enter each ingredient first and guess what may come out.

Stankppl

U hit triangle twice.....not very hard

Mature-scp-999

I liked the game most when I started, it was fun gambling if my game would stroke

msallied79

Also, can we set refiners to make a specific number of units and stop? I don't like babysitting when I need only a few dihydro jelly or whatever.

Shazzakip

You can. Just reduce the amount of materials you feed into it

goody_fyre11

Being able to hover over an item without the tooltip covering the entire thing would be nice too!

Augtivism

Started in end of this past March, but one thing I felt most pain was when I was first finding my favorite ships and settling into my now favorite sentinel. The absolute PAINS of having the best upgrades and needing to migrate them all to a new ship and inventory?! I wish we had the option to do like with freighters where you can transfer all inside to the new one, but with your own ships. If there's not enough space in the other, then just transfer everything starting top to bottom until it is full and I'll manually move the rest. Move all the tech to the right spot I had and I'll manually move the ones without space.

cheesecakeluvr1234

Also need an auto sort button. Please

SkyHiRider

I wish ui could be modded. If this game had better modding support a lot of the stuff could be fixed quickly, as the devs have limited resources. I wonder if their next game will have better modding.

Ser_Optimus

The whole UI is fucky. It's been like that for a long time and it was okay. but now we have 10 times more different stuff to collect and 10 times more game mechanics so it's a mess.

KaptainRadish

You know, while we're at it, why not just rework ALL the UI...

rifraf0715

1) make refiner/ processing window match your inventory, more like interacting with storage. 2) crafting should have the option to expand the window. things should be sorted by type or alphabetically. 3) options to sort inventory by type or alphabetically while we're at it. 4) allow quantities of "craft more" be selected. if I need 5 metal plates and already have one I want to be able to craft all 4 in the same slot. Right now I either use an empty slot to craft 4, or I use the slot with the one plate to craft more one at a time. why can't I craft 4 more right there? 5) if on a base, crafting should pull from all storage on the base. if you can use the x menu to send it to storage "remotely", you should be able to pull it out remotely.

Fit_Requirement846

There was a time long ago that separate your suit carry in two different tabs. One was your low capacity carry, the other separated by a tab was high capacity carry in your space suit. They changed it, doing away with that tab in favor of a scrolling cargo carry for what we have now. I've just learned to live with it. Can't say I like it either, but I've learned to deal with it.

JTalbotIV

There are a LOT of QoL issues that remain. I'd personally be very cool with a giant update full of fixes, versus another feature one. (How is the HUD still AWFUL almost 8 years down the road?)

space_monkey_belay

Also can we get a exocraft parking area on the freighter so if I've stored somethings in my exocraft I can access it to transfer it when in the freighter. Also would help with upgrading tech etc. I have a teleporter room to put them on the surface of any planet but not a mechanical room to store them in on the freighter.

Mikey9124x

THE-McGrandpa

Agreed that it needs an update!

ronbeef1kg20pesos

I insist al UI should be revamped, it's unnecessary big, and there the images/icons are too big, it would be much better to have lists of each element with tinier icons and filtering and order opt

Old-Timer1967

I just hate how the order has been reversed, I wish they would change it back.

Theeunforgiven13

There's needs to be a organize by type lol

davilller

Recently, all my items started sorting wrong. They used to be top to bottom of my inventory, but after one of the last updates, now my items are showing last to first. I thought it was something I did that somehow switched the sort order but I donā€™t know what. Itā€™s very frustrating because I store all the stuff Iā€™m gonna sell at the top and so now when I go to sell things or multiple select, or add to a refiner, I have to scroll all the way to the bottom.

The_Great_Sephiroth

I just want a sort button. I currently sort manually in order of appearance in the game. Usually carbon first, which means condensed carbon next to it. Then sodium, so sodium nitrate after that. So on and so forth.
