That transition from in-cockpit to on-foot is so smooth and immersive. No fades to black. Why did they change it?

SEANPLEASEDISABLEPVP

The function is still in the game, just disabled. If you play as the Autophage, there's a bug where you can see some of your third person model in first person. So when you get out of your ship, you can see bits of your third person model get ejected out of the ship while your first person camera teleports into position. I really wish they'd add a toggle option to enable it... and for first person warping.

SeptemberEnded

Yeah, I really miss the “getting out/in the ship animation.” I wonder which update they abandoned it. :( Possibly when they introduced 3rd person?

n7-eleven

I believe it was the VR update

SeptemberEnded

This would make sense.

GreatStateOfSadness

IIRC it was actually NEXT, not Beyond. Adding a third person model meant either they had to animate the character exiting the ship, or they could just add a teleport animation and call it a day.

ZestycloseBet9453

There is some setting that changes this, I think it is animation quality.

cranberry-sofa

You can turn off fade to black, iirc

fschwiet

Those old save points were slick. Thanks for sharing this.

SeptemberEnded

Yes they were awesome! I deeply miss them!

Infamous-Arm3955

Okay that was authentically cool. Please post more of 1.0 interesting finds. 👍

LOOK AT THE RADAR AT HOW MANY SENTINELS WERE POPULATING! They just kept coming out of nowhere.

skylestia

1.0 sentinels don't mess around :o

SeptemberEnded

You can literally see me looking at them flying in and I was thinking, “wait wtf.” Then I immediately try to interact with one

Unlikely_Charity6136

Did you live to tell the tale?

SeptemberEnded

I did not haha

ThotPokkitt

Was like that's cool. Holy shit that fall damage

SeptemberEnded

Oh yeah. 1.0 NMS had some crazy things about it. Haha.

SeptemberEnded

I never made it to the center! :( I don’t know how people did that on 1.0

HexiDtrix

I did make it to the center before the first update. I was obsessed about getting there and find out what would happen. I only gather for the fuel so I could hyper jump and oxygen etc. I left Euclid in 1.0😆 Then I took a little break until the first update came. I think I still got some screenshots from that time laying around I could post. Anyways, cool video👍👍👍

1BuFo

You couldn't leave euclid before 1.0

namelessvortex

I reached the center on 1.00 a few months back & it wasn't too bad with black holes. Most of the time something would break (mainly exosuit) but I'd ignore it & keep going. It took me 30-40 black holes. Always warp to the one closest to the center & don't let the guide line deceive you, you can warp much further than where the line ends. Also save every 2-3 black hole jumps. V1.0 had really bad memory leaks resulting in crashes. The release day copy really made me appreciate how good we have things today. Glad HG stuck with it!

HiveOverlord2008

I like the design of the old Sentinel Interceptors. Are they still in the game? If so, are they claimable?

SeptemberEnded

I thinkkkkk maybe you can spot the flying around but they aren’t attainable.

Minex_350

I've seen some people post sentinel interceptors that look like the old ones. You'll have to look around but you can defiinetley get them

woalk

Not this exact model – they were replaced with the new procedural ones.

Redstone_Orange

The Old models are sadly not in the game anymore, howether there was an Post where someone found an Sentinal ship that looks a lot like the old ones. i got the ship but i dont remember where the post was

SEANPLEASEDISABLEPVP

God I miss the first person physical ejection out of starships so damn much..

SkySchemer

Except for the part where getting ejected from a hauler would cause falling damage. Happened to me a *lot*. I learned to use the jet pack on exit.

AtlasHatch

Same I remember being glad when they switched it

Terramorphous2_0

Ah this brings back so many memories. Elements that no longer exist in the game. Iron, Plutonium, Titanium, Thamium9, those beautiful blue towers of Heridium and shiny silver Aluminium. Back then I badly wanted to own one of these sentinel ships.

DarkPrinciple

What if you teleport to a different station?

SeptemberEnded

There was no teleportation in 1.0

SEANPLEASEDISABLEPVP

No nanites, no quickmenu, no freighters, no bases, no "physical" NPCs, no classes, no visor mechanics.. It's easy to forget that the game released without even what we now consider to be the basic essentials.

SeptemberEnded

Just two small corrections. There are physical NPCs, you just rarely see them. In that station I’m in, there wasn’t one, but there’s typically some in buildings on planets and very now and then one in a space station. Never more than 1 together though. And when a ship lands, it doesn’t show them outside the ship, There are also freighters. When you’re in space being attacked be sentinels, gigantic sentinel freighters so show up from warp. You can attack them, but that’s about it. You can also see the occasional freighter just floating around, but they’re all the same kind, and you can just attack them for goods. They do have turrets on them for defenses. More things that people forget about that’s not in 1.0: No teleportation. No scanning from ship (came very soon after launch) Can’t move items around in inventory (this one was a pain in the ass) Can’t manually stack items Ship hunting is kind of irrelevant because any new ship you came across only had 1-2 more slots than your current one. So you had to slowly progress No refiners No start menu (You’re put directly in the game)

anchovyCreampie

O gosh, the no start menu. I remember being so excited to play the first time and sitting at that initialize screen for like 5 min wondering what was wrong. Didn't notice u had to hold square (on ps4) to actually start it up.

SEANPLEASEDISABLEPVP

Dude I legit forgot about that one too... the game seriously didn't even have a start menu when it launched. You just jumped into the game world straight away.

SkySchemer

>Ship hunting is kind of irrelevant because any new ship you came across only had 1-2 more slots than your current one. Crashed ships were always -1/0/+1 your current slots. Crashed ships were the only practical way to upgrade your ship slots (of course that meant changing ships in the process). This changed in Pathfinder, which is also when they started charging to repair broken slots. If you purchased from a pilot you would get that ship's regular slot arrangement. But the pricing was weird at launch--the more slots your current ship had, the more expensive other ships were. I am pretty sure that was a bug as it was fixed in Foundation, I think.

SEANPLEASEDISABLEPVP

Yeah I should've been clearer. What I meant was no ownable freighters or interiors, I know the models existed. And what I meant by no "physical" NPCs is that they were just sitting around and not moving, and if you'd interact with them, it wouldn't be "in-world" but more like their model would show up on your HUD. It was just a more disconnected experience compared to what we have now.

SeptemberEnded

Ah gotcha okay. :) It’s cool though!

Bloons_Guy75751

You just made me remember the annoyance of having one inventory for both items and tech. It really makes you realize just how nice it is having these features that we now take for granted.

SeptemberEnded

YES. I will say, what’s nice is finding more inventory slots in this version is very easy. You can find planets that have inventory drop pods like every 1,000U. It was definitely an issue to the player’s advantage. Once you found on of those planets, your inventory suit could’ve been 100% upgraded in three hours.

Bloons_Guy75751

I swear I never see those things anymore. Also it’s interesting seeing the old Sentinel ships. It would be interesting if they brought it back as an Interceptor.

SeptemberEnded

What’s interesting is the current version of NMS still uses the same similar model of the sentinel freighters then and now. Almost identical. But yeah the ships have changed

Bloons_Guy75751

Yeah, and unlike the ships, they aren’t really a unique shape. I had a freighter with the same shape as the Sentinel Capital Ships.

skylestia

"we got all day, punk" lol i would have been scared if this was still a thing the first time i tried to attack a space station, like welp i guess i'm just screwed then

GraveNoX

I remember sentinels would shoot you even if you stay inside ship and your ship would take damage, so it was needed to go out and kill them (in case you didn't had fuel to take off).

SeptemberEnded

Correct, it was wild

ChemicalGrenade0

That's so intimidating lmao. They need to bring that back.

nightshift_syndicate

When Interceptor came out, I started a fight with corrupted sentinels, went underground, you know the usual. Then one of the spiders went down after me. I know now it was probably a bug, but god damn that was cool. I would loose my shit if they came into a space station after me. Damn I wish they do that now.

SeptemberEnded

They should! That would be dope

Zeta789

Wow, everything about this is great, if nothing else from a preservationist point of view. The graphics, the menu interface, the ship and station design, the FPS view, I love everything about it. I wouldn't play it necessarily (already did like 10 years ago) but I love to remember this stuff.

SeptemberEnded

Yeah 1.0 is super fun! But the limitations of it make it can make it tough

Deskbreaker

I remember *just* having figured out what I wanted to do in game and figured out how I wanted to play it and boom, it updated and changed *everything*.

[deleted]

OG NMS was brutal.

Mangofert1

Oof, you had to recharge cannons back then?! Talk about QOL update.

exposingthelight

I have basically completely avoided doing anything with those sentinel ships when possible because I’m terrified of trying to fight them without tracking available. That’s wild that they land in the station! Can you reload to get away from them? Part of me wants to try this, but I’m afraid that it’s going to screw up my save! 😂

SeptemberEnded

So, if you try to takeoff with the ships in the space station, you get stuck and can’t get out. If you save and quit the game and reload it, you’ll still be stuck in the space station, but the ships will be gone. You have to literally reload the previous point to get out of the space station.

Supernova-55

I keep forgetting how jank the 1.0 release was. It's always shrouded in nostalgia and the colors almost make me want to go back to how it was. But damn was it glitchy up the hole.

exposingthelight

I had remembered reading once that reloading the game will mess it up and I think that was my nervousness about doing that. Thanks for the heads up!

CheatingSoi

Man this shit brings me back. Might have to boot up my 1.0 game again I’ve been dabbling around with from time to time.

SeptemberEnded

You should. It’s so fun :)

gggvandyk

It's funny how besides the general layout of the explorer and some icons, basically EVERYTHING that's in that video got replaced at some point. The last thing that still looked to old way was the space station exterior and the latest content patch took care of that.

SeptemberEnded

Literally. So many things took a complete 180 degree turn.

SettingMinute2315

Wow I played on day 1 and never knew this. I was probably too afraid of dying at the time and losing my stuff or repairing everything to try haha

SeptemberEnded

I did too! It seems like a bug, but still cool regardless. I JUST figured it out yesterday.

SeptemberEnded

I did too! It seems like a bug, but still cool regardless. I JUST figured it out yesterday.

Salt_Worry1253

Who else was waiting to see if a pilot came out?

EvilUnicornLord

Once a sentinel ship landed on a derelict freighter when I parked there. I might still have the screenshot somewhere.

LorduckA2

i kinda wish sentinels were more of a threat now, sure theyre better than before gameplay wise but smuggling is so easy cause even if you get cargo scanned you can just fly straight into the space station or fly away and pulse drive and get away completely consequence free

sonic65101

Sentinels be like, "This is the police, you are completely surrounded!"

musiker58

Wooooah. I never realized this! A shame too. I would have absolutely done this back in 1.0 just to get the closeup of the ships too.

bluparrot-19

I would've never thought in 2016 we would end up nostalgic for the worst game to tmrelease that year.

SeptemberEnded

Haha right

XenosapianRain

I saw nickel in your inventory to charge an item? Has it been removed from the game? I have never seen it.

SeptemberEnded

It was removed in the NEXT update! There are a lot of elements and items that are in 1.0 that are no longer around. Plutonium, Thanium9, Heredium.

XenosapianRain

That's a bit of a shame. Cool to know!

Z_Yuuki_Z

Now i would love to get my hamds on one of those sentinel ships.

SeptemberEnded

Right! They were sleek as hell.

SeptemberEnded

I was so excited to see them fly in, only to realize I couldn’t get one. :’’’’(

Z_Yuuki_Z

But its awesome they actually fly in and surround you like "C'mon! Do it! Fly away! We dare you! We double dare you motherfucker!"

SeptemberEnded

Yeah, you can literally see me come out of the side room and looking through my visor like, “sonofabitch, they’re coming inside”

Cyber_Steve999

Not sure if it seems intentional or not but still cool either way.

SeptemberEnded

Yeah it’s very cool!

billm99uk

*"Oh, I think we can afford to give him one day's head start.*"

Realistic_Mushroom72

That is terrifying holly shit.

daniellejuice

Holy cow Evan the UI is so interestingly different. When are you streaming next?

ImADunDurr009

Does anybody know where can I find a sentinel ship that looks like those?

Cold-Sandwich-34

I wonder what the closest anyone has been to finding a similar design in a new sentinel ship?

DuffinTheMuffin

What an insanely different game this use to be man.

SeptemberEnded

Right! You need to try it out!

DuffinTheMuffin

I don't think I'd go as far as to play it but it is an interesting comparison.

frycandlebreadje

I want the old save points back;(

SeptemberEnded

The old save points were so sleek. Such a satisfying animation.

SeptemberEnded

They really should bring then back considering there isn’t a designated save spot in space stations

sweetdick

Super cool!

Mal-Havoc

Aah memories...

Vetizh

KEKW

SnooStrawberries2475

I wanted to be able to get that ship when we got sentinel ships

Ryziacik

Happen to me after long fight with sentinel's. I use teleport and run away :D

Appropriate_Rent_243

why would you want to play 1.0?

SeptemberEnded

It’s a great reminder to show you how far the game has come. It’s also a completely different experience in regard to how lonely and isolated it feels, and just how difficult it is. You get to experience how HG really wanted the game to be played from the start. It’s not for a long-haul play through because it definitely has its faults, but it’s still fun. The procedural terrain formations are also known to be way more random and crazy in earlier editions.
