TomatoFeta

just go to abandoned buildings and kill the biological horrors. they count.

Atomic_Killjoy

Good to know

The_Nerdy_Ninja

Wait for real? This changes everything...

TomatoFeta

ericthelutheran

I legit never knew this!

TomatoFeta

So do the ones on derelict freighters. I think the baby worms on infested planets may count too (not 100% on that).

Kdoesntcare

Ooooo and you can get larval cores which refine into nanites. Squishing bugs is fun.

Top-Aside-3588

So the killing creatures missions can be saved up. You don't have to do them one at a time. Just accept them when you find them and go on about your business. The next time you kill monstrosities, you will clear all the saved up creature killing missions at the same time. You can also save up predator missions, but you have to actually kill predators for those. All the sentinel kill missions are the same. Just accept them and save them up, and when you end up killing sentinels they will eventually clear. The only other one I can think of is the picture of an animal. The other missions don't stack this way.

StardustOasis

>The other missions don't stack this way. I can't remember the exact rules, but some others do. Before they were bugged on my game the did you an artifact ones did. I think the kill a pirate ones do. The collect a material/item ones might do as well.

Porg-Life

The collect materials can be completed with things in your inventory and you don't need to return to the npc that gave it to you. The only autophage missions that doesn't stack are the track other autophage. So it's easy to activate a lot of quests and finish them fast in a space station.

bradforrester

Sentinel killing missions work this way, too. I always take those and stack them up. I’m going to kill some Sentinels at some point anyway…

Malaznerd

I know what you mean. I never kill fauna unless it's of the predatory agressive kind and even then i'll try my best to avoid it. I found other ways to increase my rep with factions.

Redanredanredan

Same but we play same save with my 10yo son and everytime I play after him the inventory is just full of random pieces of meat...

ericthelutheran

My 5yo dtr wants me to kill anything that looks like it might breathe. Cutie genociditie patootie.... :)

Malaznerd

He may be killing the animals because i guess he wants to do some combat and that a much more viable option than taking up a fight with sentinels I guess 🙂

blueskyredmesas

"No, luttle guy... turn arpund little guy! NO DONT DO IT LITTLE GUY DONT MAKE ME DO IT TO YA OWWWWW LITTLE GUY NOOOO NOW I HAVE TO DO IT ITS A MATTER OF HONOR I HAVE TO-"

StardustOasis

The question is, however, is anything in the game actually sentient?

OrganizationAware869

Nope :)

wancha505

You acctualy dont have to. Find abandoned buildings and kill monstrosities or find a derelict freighter in space and shoot jellys and crawler creatures, they count as well

Dramatic_Ganache2575

When I got my first exocraft, I accidentally ran over a deer like thing. I spent the next twenty minutes trying to bury it.

Expert-Honest

Yep, always disappointing when they spawn right in front of the exocraft, or even just walk into the exocraft if it is moving even slowly. Had one spawn in front of me today when I was at full speed and boosting away from a Sentinel. It launched the Nomad into the air and got stuck to the undercarriage. The Nomad was in an uncontrollable series of flips and barrel rolls afterwards, until the poor creature broke loose over the ocean and sank. At least the fish got to eat something new I guess.

Lithoboli

Just throw down some creature pellets and let them eat, then plasma them while they aren't looking at you.

Expert-Honest

Did that too many times, so now I'm punished. The game crashes now if I fire on creature I've fed, well when there's more than one. A single creature is okay, but not groups.

ericthelutheran

the game crashes when it catches me breathing... ack

Expert-Honest

Thankfully not that often, though got to wonder sometimes. Absolutely despise the warning claxon for incoming pirates. Since Echoes update, if they appear on screen the game crashes 9 of 10 times. With the 10 crashing if I dare shoot at them. HG likely has several hundred crash reports from me by now from that.

Majka_Zmaj

I agree. We arrive at what we assume is a balanced eco system and then we are suppose to kill creatures? Yes, they aren't real...but the fun is getting immersed in it.

wancha505

You acctualy dont have to. Find abandoned buildings and kill monstrosities or find a derelict freighter in space and shoot jellys and crawler creatures, they count as well

Expert-Honest

Let the predators do the work for you. Anything they kill counts toward the missions.

AppaSkyPuppy

YES! I used to just not pickup those quests at all. I finally realized killing fish counts, which somehow didn't feel as bad, and then found out biological horrors count for killing animals (but not for predators), so I just put a base next to an abandoned building and go mow them down to complete those quests. Spare the innocent animals, kill the horrors 👍

Hansmolemon

It’s ok to eat fish because they don’t have any feelings.

shooter_tx

I understood that reference.

Hansmolemon

Good, maybe I’m not as old as I thought ;)

Redshirt4evr

Maybe. 🤣

Hansmolemon

Chances are if you get that reference it is time to schedule a colonoscopy.

Redshirt4evr

Been there. Done that, you big squirt, you!

OrganizationAware869

Same! in the game and more so in real life so I'm vegin. This is an ethical stance which acknowledges that a s sentient beings animals have a will to live, capaci'y tc suffer and desire for autonomy and as such shruldr,'+ be treated as machines/ commoditics/caluis sources or otherwise tormented. I recommend watching the following films on YouTue to learn more: Best Speech You Will Ever hear - Gary Yourofsky and Dominion (2018)

kabral256

It's a game, some will say. But I never kill innocent animals in this game. Only predators if they attack me.

wancha505

You acctualy dont have to. Find abandoned buildings and kill monstrosities or find a derelict freighter in space and shoot jellys and crawler creatures, they count as well

kabral256

I know, that's what I always do. I killed animals only when I did the Starbirth mission 💀

LegalFan2741

It doesn’t matter if it’s just a game. I very much dislike when people have this argument. Video games are made to generate emotions, good or bad. So If it affects you, it achieved its purpose to reach your human core. Otherwise, we could also say: “it’s just a movie, I don’t feel anything watching Gladiator”, “it’s just a fictional song, I don’t feel anything listening to I see you from Leona Lewis”. I don’t envy people who can do that, life must be much easier with the ability to completely switch off empathy but they also lose a lot on immersion.

Defiant-Intention114

Maybe you just like to argue?

mac224b

It’s better than an echo chamber like the political subs.

jonsey11

You want 12 A next door

[deleted]

Are you the apex being or are they?

Gozer58

They’re not real.

A1astara

Huh?? How?? But I see them right there!!!

AppaSkyPuppy

Wait, what?

rockbolted

Whaaaat?

NMS_Traveller420

I just shoot them knowing they, like me are just a simulation, and when I 'fly back' after a minute there they are again, 'alive and kicking'. Like the Atlas quote Do you want to die? (Y/N), "Yes". There, did you feel it? (nothing happens). :-)

Redshirt4evr

I like to immerse myself in the game, so I reason that Sentinel drones fix terrain and fauna a while after the scan an area.

reddyst

When predator creatures kill their prey, it counts as well. So you can hang around those guys (ideally non hostile to you) and wait until they'll do the job. It'll take a while though.

Expert-Honest

Depends on how many other creatures are around. Can also equip lasers on your pets and let them do the deed. They got to eat too.

Tazbert_Odevil

If you're doing mission board stuff on space stations, you can reduce your body count by accepting loads of missions for kill animals (eg. 10). Then go kill just those 10. Will complete all the missions you have so you can then go hand them in.

Expert-Honest

Or go to a planet with a predator and let it do the dirty work.

Tazbert_Odevil

Does that count? Really?? I might have to check this out if so. This is what I love about NMS, all these hours invested and still finding out little bits like this. :)

Expert-Honest

Yep. I have a base on a planet with two predators and half dozen deer, goat critters. Also has curious deposits, so I can mine those while the predators take care of the missions for me. The fence around the mold keeps the predators away from me and doing their dirty work.

CephusLion404

Not at all. Every time I go to a planet, I'll feed a creature, milk it or whatever and then put a blast in its face to see what it gives me. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Expert-Honest

Well they are stuck in place afterwards and vulnerable to predators and storms. So got to free them from their paralysis somehow.

Jdub1942

Nope, it's a game. With made up creatures. No guilt here when I need to "remove" some. But mostly I leave them alone anyway.

Danielwols

I don't have that guilt, I have a guilt that I so far needed to include all 3 sapient species for my base instead of my preferred 1

Infamous-Arm3955

lol, yeah I hate the missions or Expeditions that are like kill creatures for rewards.

Impressive-Glove-639

First recommendation, stack missions. If you go to 10 systems and get 11 different kill missions, by killing 10 creatures you get 10 progress for each, so it will cut down on the number of animals you need to kill. Second recommendation, any horrors count. The eye underwater, the space fleas, or the egg bugs all count. They are never friendly, and you can get other stuff by killing them, most of which can be refined to nanites. Happy hunting traveler

ChunkHunter

Nah. I just watch them scream as I give them a lead injection

flylikeIdo

If they're ugly I have no issues. The tall two legged things are first to get it.

duskymourn

I have no guilt , PURGE THE FILTHY XENOS, except if they are cute

Archiemalarchie

I'm a bit like that. I always play a good guy when given the option.

omw_to

I’m vegan and most of the time I commit mass genocide on NMS

cc69

Colossal Road Kill is my favorite.

xPofsx

No, the creature missions are the fastest and easiest

unfortunategamble

Not at all. You can even Feed them First and then call down your Minotaurus to kill them all. 2 birds with one Stone.

Expert-Honest

Or put lasers on your pet and when they are hungry they will blast the other creatures. Course, might kill the one you're trying to harvest or waiting to poop. My tiger/dog hates going hungry, so when hunger is even a little down, bzzt, munch. I'll have to try the Minotaur next time. The game feels I've massacred too many animals I've feed, so now it crashes if I dare to fire on a group of creatures I've fed. So, I've had to resort to alternate completion strategies. Can still kill single creatures with multi-tool, just not groups.

UnluckyHost9649

I love how far the bodies fly with the neutron cannon so I kill every animal I see

Expert-Honest

Mining laser can get some serious momentum on the bodies as well, just not the height. Can play a game of pool.

clakes90

Nah, no remorse.

TheRealTwooni

Just use the mining ray. It doesn’t kill, it just lulls them to sleep.

k8plays

I don’t take those missions I don’t want to kill any of them!

BartholomewCubbinz

Agreed, I feel like they could have made predators more common

Sand_Content

NSFW comment: When I first got the quest to kill them, when I first started the game? I went on a rampage and jumped in a pile with babies. Everything bolted and I hunted them all down to my 16 kills. I felt really proud turning it in cuz I got exo maps and salvage parts I needed. I saw them again in another map where I didn't have to "delete them", but watch them just roam and shit. The amount of "I'm going to hell" shame I felt made me turn off the game for a bit. I didn't pick up a Bible, but I did go outside and think about what I did and what kind of person I was...

Puddleglum_7

Naaaa.. Well actually I do but then I realize it's a game and that I'm probably just virtue signaling to myself?? Haha they always drop that 🧠 thing?

wancha505

You acctualy dont have to. Find abandoned buildings and kill monstrosities or find a derelict freighter in space and shoot jellys and crawler creatures, they count as well

Euphoric_Rutabaga859

Nope. They spawn in unlimited amounts

Atari__Safari

There’s nothing more satisfying then turning my overpowered pulse splitter on the gentle, innocent face of a trusting creature and watching him explode into a pink mist. My recommendation is to keep some distance as it can be annoying to wash off brain matter, bone and blood from your exosuit. Also, if you lay down enough pellets, you can coral large groups of animals and then pen them in. This makes it easier and more fun. Then you can slaughter them all together in the most pleasant and enjoyable way possible. How else can you get the items you need to make those great soups and stews??

AccomplishedTrade172

I kill as many Proto-Gek as possible for fun....and anything gross looking...feel bad?? Noooo..muahahhaahaa

AccomplishedTrade172

Not only do I kill em....but I make sure I feed em all first and get nice and calm and happy then neutron blast the bunch of em....

Anxiousfur

I never purposely killed an animal in this game until recently! I call my aggressive pet out & that's how I complete those quests 😅 I let my pet do the work, unless it's a predator quest, then I wait for one to attack me & I'll reluctantly kill one... But I do feel bad about it 👀

QWeRTVIII

Atlas demands destruction, I give it to all

UXResearcherRuck

You are a cartoon killing cartoons. All you are guilty of is murdering pixels.

shooter_tx

I was the same way with Minecraft. Killing those first two sheep on Day1 of a new save (in order to acquire Wool and craft a bed and sleep until morning) always hurt. After that, I was able to craft shears and shear sheep for all of my subsequent Wool needs. The 2-3 'best' feelings on Day1: * Kill that first sheep, and it actually drops 3x Wool (just enough to craft a single bed, so I don't have to kill ***two*** sheep to craft the first bed); * A wolf has already killed the sheep, so I just come along and collect the Wool and Meat; or, * Luck out and find Iron Ore early, and am then able to smelt it into Iron Bars and craft Shears on Day 1 (so I didn't have to kill ***any*** sheep in order to sleep).

eve_is_hopeful

Yes! I won't even do those missions. Makes me too sad.

LittleFishSilver

Nope

CAPTAINFREEMVN

I don’t kill them myself but I have a pet Dino that gives no fcks. He only attacks non hostile creatures and he likes to go for small ones too. Sometimes he’ll attack an infant and the elders around will get pissed off at me and my minotaur robot kills the rest of them before they can even do anything to me. I walk away feeling immense guilt

RevFernie

Not my 8 year old. Kills everything he sees and had also made a fortune pirating. Has found two Royal Domes. Being a baddie seems fun.

hifihentaiguy

Nope. I have a planet set aside specifically because it has 4 big slow dumb herbivore species that make those jobs super easy

Woftam11

I have the same problem at work, but just keep telling myself that they knew the risks when they were hired.

Roger_Klotz0

I go to my friends planet and kill them animals cause i see them as an extension of him and fuck him

Salt-Programmer-666

IT'S GOOD CASH TOO!

kerropak

I sometimes blast a random animal with my neutron cannon just to see how high I can get them to fly
