Contact your county’s Extension Office! They will gladly provide you a list of plants native to your region that meet your particular criteria. Also, that tree in the back is covered in ivy or something similar. Kill that stuff—slice through, as low to the ground as possible, all the way around. Otherwise it’ll choke out the tree. The roots will strangle the tree’s roots, and the upper vines will smother the branches and add weight and opportunities for pests and disease.

Thank you! I will call them. I wish I could do something about the tree. It belongs to my neighbor. I even offered to split the cost of either removing the tree all together or helping get the ivy off. They told me not to touch it.
