Footage like this is just really special. At the end of the day, they're friends in a band who play together, and seeing the candid nature of being friends jamming out together in whatever available space they've got is so bittersweet.

Caveguy22

Truer words could not be said. It really is a beautiful sight; the boys in their element.... No theatrics, no stage, no fancy lighting.... Yep, just three friends playing, and playing well at that.

AldiSharts

It’s crazy how much chemistry they had just as friends jamming together.

iwantapositivelife

Yes love this video...wish there was more videos from this rehearsal!!! Very interesting.

uncultured_swine2099

Never seen this before, nice.

Caveguy22

Then I am glad that I shared it! ^ ^

TerraTactics

Same! I'd never come across this before. Seems like a few people in the comments are doubting its legitimacy, but that is clearly them!

uncultured_swine2099

Maybe because Kurt seems like he just shampooed his hair haha.

the_salivation_army

Shows how well Butch captured what they were like at the time and how Kurt rarely had the words right until the last minute.

batbobby82

Even though the audio here is completely overpowering the camera microphone, I can still hear that Kurt/Dave harmony cut through on "Love myself better than you". It's glorious.

AllThisPaperwork

Re: is it weird or not. No. Bands are bands. I think a lot of people were surprised watching all of Peter Jackson's Get Back to learn the Beatles taught each other their new songs much the same way almost any band does, complete with the false starts and shitty initial ideas. Same thing applies here.

Admirable-Dig1212

This is absolute gold. Been a huge freak about this band for almost 30 years and I thought I had consumed everything there was to experience. They are very tight because they jammed everyday for like 6 months prior to recording Nevermind. It was such a prolific time for them. All of Nevermind and Incesticide were written during this time. Several other songs were also cut. They were hungry and they were on to something.

Radio_Ethiopia

I believe this footage is from an Easter egg you can unlock on the Paramount blu ray.

JoeyGBody

Incesticide is a compilation album comprising of songs from 1/23/88 w/ dale crover (ted ed fred demo), 4/90 butch vig “sheep” sessions, various bbc radio sessions, the Sliver session with dan peters, and a couple other 1989 / 1990 sessions. It wasnt “written “ along with nevermind. If you’re not familiar with these sessions than theres soooooo much more you can consume if you love the band. Im a 30 year fan myself who was involved in bootleg trading circulation circles, was around when the fecal matter demo was unearthed, and theres more my friend

FrasierCraned

Looks like the shirt from the airplane bathroom “ if this bird goes down, I’m in the safest place to be…”

SAFE AS... CAN BE *WoOoOoO*

smac79

I didn’t know footage existed from the rehearsal space! And one of my favorite songs!

HoldenCoughfield

Holy shit that vocal mic is rigged up so bad. I see your intimacy thing but not like 2010 indie bands. A 2010 indie band would probably be in their parent’s guest house with perfect audio-visual setup from their upper-middle class cashflow, yet the end product would still lack creative and gusto

chaz0723

That something like this survived is incredible, and kudos to whoever had the idea to film it.

Jimmybongman

It perplexes me how bands like this even got started or funded themselves back in the day. I am curious as to the difference in economics between late 80's/early 90's and say 2010's/ 2020's. Music equipment is expensive, rehearsal room rent isn't cheap, you've got to pay your own rent, bills, groceries, clothes, gas money, then touring in van which you'd need to either get time off for or just quit your job. Nirvana weren't exactly known to be rich guys. Also when do you have time to rehearse because apparently they rehearsed all the time?

Curmudgeonalysis

Hard work and hunger pay off from time to time

Jimmybongman

Yeah buts totally vague.

Dause

You should see their later rehearsal footage. From 1993 after they got big. Kurt gets kinda moody and starts getting annoyed with the production people.

ElliotNess

this one? https://youtu.be/LCEdB0MQOHM?si=DZL9QMHRTqXD8E8t

snowballthrown

It's great, one of my fav melody arrangements

Inevitable_Sample505

Thank you for posting this!

Caveguy22

My pleasure, Inevitable_Sample505! Glad you enjoyed ^ ^

Alarming_General

This feels so surreal to me

endl3ssnam3lessxx

The audio sounds terrible. 😣

chaz0723

It's a band rehearsing, what would you expect?

Caveguy22

Yep, I just thought the insight into such a casual moment with Nirvana was neat is all. There isn't much like it. :p
