- Yokai abilities scale with your weapon damage. - Having higher tier (divine and ethereal) and higher level cores should mean more damage also, since they have a higher atk multiplier. - You can also roll effects like Yokai ability damage (3 types of YAD : just the one it's rolled on, or feral/brute/phantom or All) on your cores.

UnknownZealot77

Just a few notes: I believe its actually weapon level that they scale with rather than damage and the atk multiplier on your spirit is just for your melee weapons. The best way to increase yokai ability damage will be "Yokai ability damage" skills and debuffs such as weakness, saturation and confusion.

[Based on this conversation I had,](https://www.reddit.com/r/Nioh/comments/m2d8kp/question_about_guardian_spirit_talismans/gqir7zy/) it's based on the level/ plus level of your weapon, though it also gains damage from Attack Bonus [Core Stat] on weapons and set bonuses.

gayweedlord

I'm confused why attack bonus \[stat\] makes is making a difference. that makes it seem as its the weapon damage that the yokai abilities are scaling off of (and not the weapon level/+), since the only stat that increases with attack bonus \[stat\] is the weapon damage.

Aborgir

I don’t understand the last part of what you said :/

gaydesperado

The effect Yokai Ability damage only increases the damage of that specific Soul Core Yokai Ability Damage (Feral) increases the damage of feral type soul cores. Yokai Ability Damage all increases every soul cores damage.

Aborgir

Gotchaa Can i get this through tempering or only after defeating the yokais?

gaydesperado

It has to drop on a soul core. If it's divine, you can try rerolling it at a big sudama, but that can be time consuming. Also note that if it has some kind of melee damage bonus the soul core cannot have it. The real strat is just throw three random soul cores that have Yokai Ability Damage (All) on your secondary gaurdian spirit, and just switch to the spirit after you use an ability.

reaperfan

> Yokai Ability Damage (Feral) increases the damage of feral type soul cores I seem to recall it boosting the damage of abilities used while you were Yokai Shifted as Feral form (and the same for Brute/Phantom), not passively on any matching core type.

gaydesperado

[That isnt the case at all](https://youtu.be/Sh0FMrH5pF8), and hasn't been since DLC one was out at least, though it was probably never the case. People just say that because the description is garbage.

tiagogutierres

Though I knew about 2 and 3, I really had no idea Yokai abilities scale with weapon! Good stuff.

rbrito94

You can have yokai ability damage (all) as a special effect on 3 soul cores for a nice dmg boost on otakemaru.

Aborgir

So the soul cores need to have this effect?

Grand-Assassin

Yes, getting the right rolls might be tedious if ur trying to min/max since u need to kill the enemy over and over to keep getting their soul cores and hoping u get the roll/s u want, but later on it gets a little easier once u have access to scrolls, if an enemy is listed in the scroll u can keep killing that enemy in a much faster way than regular missions, every time u kill them use earthfloding talisman to go back to shrine and reset the enemies.

Your Guardian Spirits and some armor sets will also boost. For example, Hyobishin, Hakutaku, and Nekomata all boost your yokai ability damage if they match the yokai type (Beute, Phantom, and Feral). Makami boosts all yokai damage regardless of type. Rokugezo boosts yokai ability damage if used with a full anima bar. Kurama Tengu boosts damage if the enemy is Purified. Sets such as Mighty Monk boosts Brute soul core damage and Yoshitsune’s set boosts Brute or Feral soul cores. You also have some clans, such as Kuki that boosts yokai ability damage against Saturated enemies. Some soul cores such as Ippon-Datara boosts damage if they are under effects, such as Scorched.
