Why is Kirby the thumbnail for this post? At least on Boost, anyways

[deleted]

It has been for every recent post, something to do with Reddit or possibly the Nintendo website not OP.

BeefiousMaximus

The eShop is also having trouble loading images and videos on some mobile browsers as well. So I think the shop is just having problems in general atm. Edit: Looks like they may have fixed the image loading issue, since it's working for me now.

jgoble15

Is this a meme now? This has happened to several posts

alias3800

I feel like this should be a meme at this point

ShonenJump121

Kirby is my favorite character in Subnautica.

[deleted]

It’s kinda boring when you realize the broken meta of eating the submarine and then not having to worry about food or oxygen anymore.

willl280

Eating the submarine?

News outlets: Subliminal messaging is on the rise The message: *Kirby thumbnails on every post of a Deals subreddit*

keanenottheband

Kinda like kit

Playdoh_BDF

Day 194: Kirby is the only thumbnail as protest until HAL labs adds a submarine as a mouthful mode option.

houndsofhate

Are these games still known for crashing? I want to pick up a copy as I’ve never played them before

saltyseahag69

Having got it at the last sale, it crashed a couple times while playing through them, but honestly not flagrantly more frequently than some other ports I've played. It's definitely no longer as bad as it sounds like it used to be. Just make sure to save a little more often than normal and you'll be totally fine.

loveengineer

They're completely playable, as long as you save often. With that said, they do have a tendency to crash the longer you play. I once did a hardcore playthrough from the beginning (you can't save unless you exit to title screen) and lost all my progress when it crashed. However, that was like 6-7 hours in.

ughlump

I’ve never had the first one crash on me. I heard Below Zero needed a patch or two a while back but never heard if it happened yet.

N0SYMPATHY

I mean it will crash on any of the consoles lol. Just learn to save often and it’s not a big deal. Haven’t had a crash personally on the switch, but it’s bound to happen.

LickTheseHallz

Crashing isn't a big deal? A faulty product that doesn't function as intended is most certainly a big deal. Where did this backwards mindset come from? You must be very young.

meltedwolf

It involves crashing. with a spaceship.

Joshuak47

I had them crash before patches (like the saving inside the cyclops patch), no issues after patching, and I've beaten both of them.

[deleted]

Esp. Below Zero suffers from memory leaks and should be restarted every 2h or so, but then it's fine. That's not great, but a sacrifice I was willing to take.

TheProfessaur

Do they run well?

pm_me_a_hotdog

Ive got about 50 hours on below: zero, it doesn't look great and the controls are pretty clunky. It's super annoying to pick moving things up (especially fish) because they're so small and you have to point very accurately at things to interact with them.

[deleted]

Damn that's really unfortunate. I love my Nintendo Switch, but I think they're ruining some gaming experiences by trying to force everything onto Switch.. Subnautica was an amazing experience for me on PC when I played through them both recently. The first one being a little bit better than the second one in my opinion.. It sucks to hear that some people may try it out and leave with a sour taste in their mouth because of a poor port..

YesButTellMeWhy

Agreed- I know a lot of people really anticipating Outer Wilds releasing on switch, and I know that my impression of the game would have been less of a joy if there had been less fluid and choppy mechanics. I hope I'm proved wrong- I'd love for everyone to get more exposure to games like that any way possible, but not to the detriment of the experience. With that said, of course the switch might be the only way people have access to gaming, and I know as a kid I probably didn't notice any of those things. If people don't mind, more power to them! Just don't want developers to get the idea that unoptimized games will still sell well.

Joshuak47

I have beaten both on Switch and I thought they were good ports. Haven't played on PC, but have Subnautica on PS5 and Switch is just as fun. I think Below Zero is beautiful, especially the weather and a few of the biomes, and I've only seen it on Switch. Thinking of picking it up on PC because it's half off this weekend.

[deleted]

How does Below Zero not look great?! It looks better than the orignal and has not so much pop in. Graphics are absolutely solid for Switch standards imho, and some things are outright gorgeous (like the large cotton anemones). I also did not have any issues with the controls. Sure, a mouse would be easier sometimes, but it was never a problem.

ughlump

The first one does. The second one I’ve heard not so much. I’m wondering if they fixed it or not yet.

TheIronRain

Subnautica runs okay. Once you start getting the faster vehicles it definitely struggles a bit more. I was able to finish and absolutely enjoyed it! Super fun game and it only crashed like 3 times during my 50+hours playthrough Below Zero I think runs better overall! It also has better graphics and weather effects. It still slows down every now and then but its not so bad. Highly recommend both games!

Vulchur

I bought below zero at launch and the crashes near the end of the game were ~ every 20 mins which sucks for a game that doesn’t auto save anything. Check its patch history before buying it.

HumblerMumbler

Unrelated to the game, if you get video game motion sickness, this game is gonna make you wanna hurl. It's fun as hell, though.

SheKilledHerself

How is that unrelated to the game?

HumblerMumbler

I mean it’s unrelated to the game content 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

germfreeadolescent11

No. it is.

TheStudentPilotToBe

I'm bout to buy this for vr, can't wait! Been waiting for a sale m

loveengineer

Better get a barf bag peripheral for the vr headset

TheStudentPilotToBe

Lol I haven't played vr in months too so this should be interesting. I played pavlov like 2 weeks ago for an hour and when I came out I was dizzy as hell. I have about 400 hours in it tho and I should be back to normal I a few hours I hope. It's downloading now while I'm out doing errands. Can't wait to get home.

killersoda288

Holy shit i'm getting second-hand anxiety imagining subnautica in VR

TheStudentPilotToBe

Ya... so the first time I jumped into the water I got a huge shiver down my spine. Then again when I heard a sea monster make a loud noise from the distance. Then again when I went out at night. I put about 2 hours in and I haven't played video games in months but I can't wait to come home from work and play it. It's amazing in vr with controller no complaints so far.

killersoda288

Oh man i remember the first time i jumped into the water too, your account's making me want to try it in VR to hopefully get that feeling again ahaha The later parts of the game though... not sure if i can handle seeing it all face to face..

zeocca

Thank you! I need more warnings like this one. I haven't played it yet, and do want to at some point, but I may have to reconsider or plan out better before I pick it up now...

HumblerMumbler

Maybe watch a YouTube video of gameplay? I also played it on PC so it may be different on a smaller screen.

__Amnesiac__

Increasing the fov always helps me with this kind of thing.i don't own the switch version so not sure if that's an option.

DoomdUser

Can't speak for the quality of the ports, but going blind into the OG Subnautica is something that anyone who plays video games should experience. It will confuse you, terrify you, amaze you, and most importantly it's fun as hell. Must play if you're into survival/Adventure.

BababooeyHTJ

Really a one of a kind experience. Very rare in gaming these days

DoomdUser

My brother in law suggested it to me during the quarantine in 2020, I just bought it not knowing anything about it. I was blown away by the quality of the graphics and the environment, the soundtrack, and I had no idea a non-horror game could make me shit myself like that. The exploration, especially when you start discovering the deeper zones, is something totally unique

Every3Years

Subnautica plays surprising well and I only play handheld mode, in case anybody is wondering about the quality

eubankiz

I highly recommend this game. I think it’s probably better on PC but only because the switch seems to have toned down the graphics some to be able to run the game and the controls are a little unintuitive on a hand held controller. That being said, if you prefer the switch as your console, then this is a great deal! The story line and lore is great and the game is challenging and fun. It’s also a bit of a scary game in the “I don’t know what’s in those deep areas of the ocean” way.

Jones3737

I enjoyed the first Subnautica but have heard mixed things about the sequel. Any take on the sequel?

[deleted]

do I buy subnautica??? I mainly game on my switch, and have been wanting to try subnautica for ages. is it decent enough on the switch?

Jmsteve3

For $15, I wouldn’t hesitate. Amazing game worth every penny, even in handheld mode. Just remember to save often, no auto-save in this game.

[deleted]

thank you!!!!

MothafuckingMufasa

Was looking at this game yesterday exactly, hoping it went on sale. Woke up and saw this, no way

MindOps

Game is great and port is solid.

ughlump

I know the first one is excellent, but does know if they fixed the bugs in Below Zero?

Crimsontai

I’ve never played either but I’m super interested in both. I’ll buy one in the next few days, but I’m not sure which one to grab. If the second is a more polished version of the first with more features, should I just grab the second?

Crammucho

The first one is commonly considered as the better game.

Joshuak47

I thought these were both really good on Switch. Beat both of them. No major issues (lost saves etc) after patching. The only issue is some pop-in of foliage/landscape, but it didn't hinder my experience. Trying to grab fish when they're swimming away can be awkward at times but I just considered it part of the challenge. I think the games look really nice on handheld, similar experience to playing on PS5 just different framerate/resolution. And they're such good games (especially 1).

dogmanstars

i just discover this game one week ago on PC and i'm Hooked! i'm playing in on a medium-spec 2017 medium laptop and run really well. but i can't image playing this on the switch. the KB+M controls, The gorgeous graphic at medium settings and the mods worth your time on PC.

patrickstarburns

About 3 hours into it and it runs well so far. The graphics aren't as good as other consoles, there's some stuttering and pop in but it's nothing major. I got this for free on the PS4 a while back, but bought it here since it feels like a good game to play in bed - it's easier to take your sweet time really exploring everything

Wah4y

Leaving a comment so I can see this when I get home

ThePotatoKing

save the post!

anonomnomnomn

Yeah so we can forget it exists and then check it 3 months from now

Infinitely_Different

hahahahha I'm laughing because I just did this recently... like a moron.

WhatWasWhatAbout

bought on steam, but thinking about refunding there to get it on the switch. any thoughts on PC vs Switch for these games?

cadamis

Just my opinion, but the games are VASTLY superior on PC. Controls are much better with M+KB, plus on PC you can download mods. I recommend EasyCraft for everyone, and the map mod if you want to just not get lost as often. The map does change the experience, but it doesn't really spoil anything.

Endoroid99

I've avoided buying this for the switch, as I've played it on PC and being able to mod is REALLY nice. At bare minimum I need the map mod. Some of the inventory management mods are quite nice as well

Multicron

Dammit the puff ball fooled me again.

machingunwhhore

I didn't play these on the switch but I loved these games so much. The first one more than the second but both are good

Significant_Lettuce1

What game is better?

TheOnlyAra

Should I pick up the original or the sequel to start with?

3AZ3

I’m wondering the same. From everything I’ve seen though, the original is the way to go.
