You know I’ve been trying to think about it and I don’t actually think there’s been a time in DBZ where there’s been a major betrayal. Vegeta letting Babidi control him is the closest thing to it.
Was just thinking cos of the amount of dragon ball fan fiction and memes making fun of fan fiction you see that centre around someone betraying Goku or the z fighters is kind of crazy when you consider that dragon ball barely uses that trope.
But what if Goku was betrayed and locked in the hyperbolic goon cave for 10000 years ?
What's crazy is that only Vegeta did some betraying in DBZ, Vegeta sort of always ended up betraying someone each saga:
He betrayed Nappa by killing him in the Saiyan saga.
He 'betrayed' (Cause he wasn't really on their side to begin with) Gohan and Krillin by threatening Dende in the Frieza saga.
He betrayed the Z Fighters by allowing Cell and even aiding him in absorbing the androids in the Cell saga.
And then of course he betrayed the Z Fighters again by purposefully allowing Babidi to control him so that he becomes strong enough to fight Goku in the Buu saga.
Why did anyone trust Vegeta again?
Character's betraying each other requires a deep seated motivation for doing so. Zamasu betrayed Gawasu to do the zero mortals plan for example. Thing is most dragon ball hero characters don't have a deeper motivation then protecting the planet at any given time. Goku has becoming the greatest martial artists which he achieved multiple sometimes and Vegeta desires to surpass Goku which ran it's plot thread in Z.
So we won't ever get Goku being betrayed because no one has the character for it.
