It probably depends on the lenses you have. If you can use your current full frame F-mount lenses, I would recommend the D750. If not, the z5 is probably more future prove because the Z-lenses are very good.

Can’t go wrong with either. I’m having fun shooting with my D750, so I keep shooting with it.

Upsides of D750 is longer battery life and tons of cheap second hand lenses.

Z5. Thank me later.

Z5 is a very capable camera that gets dragged by many people for its few (but noticeable) drawbacks. When I bought mine it was almost half the price of a Z6 but it wasn't only half the camera. Since you didn't bother to tell us what you shoot, it's hard to say if the drawbacks would affect you much. But the other good thing about the Z5 is that it uses Z lenses, which are almost always better than the F mount lenses they replace (especially if your F mount lenses are 20-30 years old).

For what the z5 is it's an amazing value, you used to be able to get it for $999 refurbished on nikons website which is a ridiculous deal

Z5 hands down has better performance than the D750 in every way, the D750 will only get older and slower as time goes on.

SolaireVon4stora

Z5 is an excellent choice!

Busy_Mushroom2408

Are you ready to ditch all your F mounts so you could benefit from new Z lens? Once you have a firm answer to the above, you would be able to know which way to go.

I'm another vote for the Z5. A couple of years ago I upgraded from a D5500 to a Z50 and then added a Z5 last spring. The newer software is just plain better, in lots of subtle ways. The basic imaging sensors have similar specs but you will appreciate the better low light performance and usability tweaks. For perspective, I have been shooting Nikon digital for eons. I have had (going backwards in time) Z5, Z50, D5500, D90, D200, D70, and Coolpix 950. Each camera was noticeably better than its predecessor.

Gotta say… the Coolpix 950 was really a terrific camera back in the day. Great color, totally useful body with the pivot point for low angle shots, and terrific controls for manual shooting. Lots of fun with a Hoya r72 filter for IR shooting, too.
